  • Patent number: 5480736
Abstract: A fuel cell generation apparatus including a plurality of fuel cells to be connected in parallel. Each of the fuel cells is connected in parallel with a serial circuit of a starting load and a switch. Each of the parallel circuit thus formed is connected in series with one of second switches, and the serial circuits thus formed are parallelly connected to form the fuel cell generation apparatus which is connected to a load. The starting loads are closed at the start of the operation of the fuel cell generation apparatus to drop the output voltages of the fuel cells to a voltage lower than a minimum voltage in no-load open-circuit voltages of the fuel cells. The fuel cell generation apparatus is started by closing the first switches, and then closing the second switches, and finally opening the first switches. This facilitates implementing a large capacity fuel cell generation apparatus whose efficiency is improved by eliminating diodes for preventing reverse currents from flowing.

  • Patent number: 5481677
Abstract: A data transfer system has an address bus and a data bus, each divided into two parts by a bus switch. A microprocessor and program memory are connected to the first parts of the address and data buses. A data memory, data transfer controller, and input/output devices are connected to the second parts of tile address and data buses. While the microprocessor is fetching an instruction from the program memory, the bus switches disconnect the two parts of the buses, enabling the data transfer controller to transfer data directly between the data memory and input/output devices. At other times the bus switches connect the two parts of the buses, enabling the microprocessor to access the data memory and Input/output devices.

  • Patent number: 5481504
Abstract: Frequency-modulated wave trains are used in target locating by means of transmitted pulses and evaluation of portions reflected by the target in relation to bearing, distance and speed, wherein the pulse length and bandwidth of the transmitted pulse are pre-selected. The received signals are evaluated in Doppler channels by calculation of the ambiguity function. To make possible an increase in accuracy of the speed determination with the same number of Doppler channels, the frequency of the wave train within the bandwidth is calculated in accordance with an irrational function, the exponent of which has a value between 0 and 1. The smaller the value, while keeping the same pulse length, the greater the Doppler sensitivity. This method for modulating the wave train in the transmitted pulse can be advantageously employed for target identification by means of sound waves and electromagnetic waves.
