  • Patent number: 4010449
Abstract: A metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) computer wherein the bidirectional data bus lines which communicate with the central processing unit (CPU) are also utilized to convey CPU status information to a status latch, thereby eliminating pin connections otherwise required to convey status information from the CPU. A special jump instruction of all zeroes or ones is used eliminating components associated with the prior art application of such instructions to the CPU.

  • Patent number: 4008429
Abstract: A voltage translator for increasing the voltage available from the battery of an electrically energized watch so as to supply power for components requiring higher operating voltages. An inductor is switched into and out of the battery circuit using sharp pulses derived from the watch time base. The energy stored in the magnetic field of the inductor during the charge time is transferred to a storage capacitor as the field collapses. The rapid collapse of the field induces a high reverse voltage in the inductor so that the voltage across the storage capacitor increases after repeated pulses to a predetermined, relatively high value at which time a blocking circuit prevents further pulsing of the inductor, thereby automatically regulating the voltage.

  • Patent number: 4007452
Abstract: A system and method for interconnecting a plurality of separate memories (on other circuits) on a wafer so as to electrically exclude defective memories and include operative memories. A single discretionary connection is associated with each of the separate memories and such connection is made (or broken) after a memory is tested. In addition to a bidirectional memory bus used for input/output data and addresses, the wafer includes a separate identity bus used to define the memory organization. The identity bus is interconnected by a plurality of incrementers, one associated with each memory. The signal on the identity bus is incremented by useable memories and such signal is compared to an address on the bidirectional memory bus to select memories in an organized manner.

  • Patent number: 4006046
Abstract: A semiconductor wafer having a base dopant source disposed on its surface receives a surface coating consisting of, for example, a silicon nitride film. An emitter opening is formed in the silicon nitride surface coating and a portion of the base dopant source is stripped away within the emitter opening. Diffusion of the base region will result in predetermined geometrical regions of varying concentration of the base dopant as a result of the surface coating and the effect of the oxidizing atmosphere. Subsequent deposition and diffusion of the emitter region provides for smaller base widths and eliminates the need for subsequent deposition and diffusion of high concentration base dopant contact regions.

  • Patent number: 3999368
Abstract: A circuit in an electronic timepiece including a battery, a crystal oscillator, a frequency divider, a display driver and a display for reducing the magnitude of the voltage to one or more of the oscillator or driver circuits after the timepiece is turned on. The circuit initially allows the magnitude of the voltage applied to be the same as that of the battery. After some predetermined time has elapsed, the circuit reduces the applied voltage thereby reducing the power consumption and extending battery life.

  • Patent number: 3997381
Abstract: A thin epitaxial layer of silicon is disposed on a supporting silicon substrate and a silicon oxide layer or other suitable layer is formed on the epitaxial layer. The substrate, epitaxial layer and oxide layer sandwich is bonded by the simultaneous application of heat and voltaic pressure to another oxidized substrate such that the epitaxial layer is sandwiched between the two substrates with the oxide layer at the sandwich interface. Alternatively, the substrates may be joined by bonding without the use of voltaic pressure by placing the substrates (parent and supporting) at approximately 900.degree. C. The substrates with the epitaxial layer is processed to remove a substantial portion of the silicon substrate with the final portion being removed by etching. When the final portion of the silicon substrate is removed by etching, exposing the epitaxial silicon layer, the etching rate changes dramatically and this is reflected in the byproduct concentration in the etchant solution.

  • Patent number: 3989353
Abstract: The present invention is a liquid crystal display which has liquid crystal disposed between a first and second substrate. The first substrate has transparent conductive indicia members with blending conductive leads forming conductive paths to the transparent conductive indicia members. The second substrate has a solid conductive reflective portion or surface. Application of a potential difference between the indicia members and reflective surface causes predetermined indicia and leads to become energized, and the liquid crystal near the transparent indicia and conductive leads is activated, however the leads do not appear activated since the blending lead obscure the activated liquid crystal.
