  • Patent number: 5402129
Abstract: A monopulse vehicular radar system for tracking a target about an automotive vehicle senses a transmitted signal reflected back from the target and received at two different locations, determines the sum and the difference of the reflected signals sensed at the two locations, and compares the sum and difference to determine the deviation of the target from a reference azimuth. A source frequency provided by a Gunn diode is applied to and transmitted by a two-lobe monopulse antenna. The antenna lobes detect the reflected signals from the target by sensing them at the two different lobes. A hybrid junction provides sum and difference signals to mixers which homodyne the signals to produce sum and difference Doppler frequency signals using the source frequency. The Doppler frequency signals are amplified and then compared to determine the deviation of the target from the reference azimuth.

  • Patent number: 5402127
Abstract: A digital-to-analog converter (i.e., D/A converter) formed on a wafer comprises a decoder, transistors (e.g., field-effect transistors) and resistors. Since the wafer provides a gap between the p-well region and the n-well region, the resistance values of the resistors formed on the p-well region differ from those of the resistors formed on the n-well region. In order to cancel such difference between the resistance values, there are provided two series of resistors in parallel between a power-applying terminal and a ground terminal, wherein each of two series of resistors contain two kinds of resistors respectively formed on the p-well region and the n-well region, while a midpoint of the first series of resistors is connected with a midpoint of the second series of resistors. Due to the direct connection between two midpoints, the potential applied to these midpoints are stabilized and set at the certain fixed voltage.

  • Patent number: 5400660
Abstract: In an inductive flow meter, the magnetic field generator that generates a magnetic field within a tube, is connected to a source of alternating voltage via an electronic switch. The switch is controlled such that it becomes conductive only upon a zero crossing of the alternating voltage, respectively, and remains conductive until the next successive zero crossing of the exciting current. The useful voltage taken at the electrodes is integrated in an integrator, whereby the parasitic voltage coupled into the electrode loop by self induction becomes zero. In order to eliminate the influences of retentivity, each current pulse, at which integration is performed, is preceded by a pre-pulse.

  • Patent number: 5399527
Abstract: A lower wiring layer is formed on an insulating film 12 covering a semiconductor substrate 10. The wiring layer 14 has a laminated structure of a barrier metal layer such as Wsi.sub.2, an Al or Al alloy layer, and a cap metal layer such as WSi.sub.2 formed in this order from the bottom. The cap metal layer is caused to contain conductive material such as Al by using an ion injection method or the like. After forming an insulating film covering the wiring layer, a contact hole is formed in the insulating film by a dry etching process using a resist layer as a mask. The dry etching process uses a fluorine based gas such as CHF.sub.3 as the etching gas. With this etching gas, fluoride such as Al fluoride (AlF.sub.3) is generated to suppress the etching of the cap metal layer.

  • Patent number: 5400032
Abstract: A Doppler control circuit for a CW or pulse Doppler radar system for monitoring not only the phase shift between echo signals from several targets but also the amplitude difference between the several targets and to further tune the radar to a particular target among one or more targets from which echo signals return. The control circuit can be used in state of the art CW or pulse Doppler type radar systems. In a further system, a special circuit is provided for conditioning selected portions of the Doppler frequency spectrum to attenuate or de-emphasize portions of the echo signal corresponding to selected targets in the radar system environment, such as rain or stationary wayside objects, in order to give such echo signals less weight in determining roadway hazards.

  • Patent number: 5398253
Abstract: A redundant array based data storage system used in computer systems for reducing the amount of time required to modify data records stored in the redundant array. The storage system reduces the number of transmissions between a storage unit within the redundant array and the array controller by incorporating a parity storage unit which is programmed to perform operations necessary to the calculation of a "parity code" which is used for error detection and correction. By integrating the redundancy information generation into the storage unit used to store the parity information, the number of transmissions between various component parts of the system is reduced, and so the amount of time required to perform a "read-modify-write" operation is reduced. Disk-type parity units having more than one read/write head are used to further increase the performance of the storage system by reducing the disk rotational latency time.

  • Patent number: 5397910
Abstract: In a semiconductor device of gate self-alignment structure, at least two lamination layer portions each composed of a gate electrode, an insulating film and a conductive film are formed on a semiconductor substrate with a contact hole sandwiched therebetween. A wire is formed on the respective lamination layer portions. Further, a total thickness of the conductive film and the wire is determined to be large enough to prevent impurities implanted into the wire from being doped into the gate electrode. In formation of the gate self-alignment structure, an insulating side wall is formed on the side wall of the contact hole, to insulate the gate electrode from the wire or vice versa.
