  • Patent number: 5382750
Abstract: An electronic musical instrument has an automatic playing device which conducts an automatic musical performance at a tempo set by manually tapping of a pad before the beginning of the performance. The automatic playing device also starts the automatic performance based on the detection that the number of the tapping has coincided with the predetermined number. The tempo is set according to an interval between the successive tapping. The successive taps can be the latter two taps when the tapping is made for a number of time of music. Also, the electronic musical instrument is equipped with a tap voice output device that outputs counting voices, such as `one`, `two`, `three`, for each tapping.

  • Patent number: 5381886
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting and metering particulate material including a transport duct having an inlet, an outlet, and at least one moving surface located therebetween having a downstream facing drive surface. The apparatus further includes a motive device for moving the moving surface between the inlet and the outlet towards the outlet, wherein the particulate material becomes sufficiently compacted to cause the formation of a bridge composed of substantially interlocking particulates spanning the width of the transport duct. The bridging of the particulates causes the particulates to behave as a transient solid mass of particulates, such that the force exerted by the downstream facing drive surface upon particulates within the transport duct drives the entire mass of material through the transport duct towards the outlet. The apparatus is used to transport and meter particulate material under ambient conditions and against pressure.

  • Patent number: 5379239
Abstract: A waveform display device for shortening the working time for displaying a waveform representing physical quantity data which has been obtained by an analyzing instrument or the like, the device allowing input of data associated with different units of measurement. In the waveform display device, data composed of numerical values and units are input, and the numerical values and units are separated from each other. The numerical values are converted to internal data of a waveform display member while the units are analyzed to calculate a multiplier and/or an offset value, and the internal data to which the numerical values are converted are subjected to a processing using the multiplier and the offset value thus obtained. The calculation result is converted to a display coordinate value and displayed on a display member, so that the data input in different measuring units are converted into a single selected measuring unit.

  • Patent number: 5378342
Abstract: A neural modeling device comprising an electrolyte, a lipid or lipid-impregnated membrane which is situated in the electrolyte and in which an ion pump and an ion channel are buried, and an electrode for transmitting a potential of the lipid or lipid-impregnated membrane as an electrical signal. The ion pump actively transports selected ions in the electrolyte through the membrane from one side to the other side in response to an external stimulus such as light irradiation. When the difference in potential between the opposite sides of the membrane reaches a threshold, the ion channel opens to passively transport selected ions in a direction reverse to the ion transporting direction of the ion pump. When this device is exposed to light, the ion pump actively transports ions to generate a potential in the lipid or lipid-impregnated membrane.
