Abstract: This invention relates to a Stirling engine as a refrigerating machine or heat pump having improved heat transfer to the working gas or improved heat transfer from the working gas of the Stirling engine to a cooling medium with simultaneous reduction of the dead space in the engine. The Stirling engine operates with injection or atomisation of a heat transfer fluid into the working spaces of the engine, due to which the heat transfer between the heat transfer medium and the working gas is improved.

Abstract: There is described a continuous process for preparing 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-pentan-3-one from 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-pent-1-en-3-one, wherein the 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-pent-1-en-3-one is hydrogenated in the liquid phase in alcoholic solution with hydrogen at a pressure of from 50 to 400 bar and a reaction temperature of from 80.degree. to 160.degree. C. over support-free shaped bodies of pressed powders of the elements of the iron subgroup of transition group VIII of the Periodic Table or their alloys or mixtures with one another or their alloys or mixtures with elements of transition group VI, which shaped bodies are arranged in a fixed bed, to give 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-pentan-3-one. The shaped bodies have a compressive strength of from 20 to 250N and an internal surface area of from 10 to 80 m.sup.2 /g.
Abstract: The ammonium polysulfide is produced in at least one electrochemical cell, to which an aqueous ammonium sulfide solution is supplied as electrolyte. The cell comprises an anode, a gas diffusion cathode, and between the anode and the cathode an electrolyte chamber, where the cell voltage is 0.01 to 5V. The cathode has an electrically conductive, gas-permeable carbon layer, over which flows gas containing free oxygen, and which is in contact with the electrolyte. O.sub.2 -containing gas is introduced into the electrolyte chamber, thereby forming hydroperoxide anions (OOH.sup.-) in the electrolyte chamber. From the electrolyte chamber a solution containing ammonium polysulfide and a residual gas are withdrawn.

Abstract: An improved process for inactivating an extracellular lipid enveloped virus or an intracellular lipid enveloped virus which may be present in an extracorporeal composition containing red blood cells by subjecting the composition to a virucidally effective amount of a phthalocyanine compound and red light of a fluence rate of at least above about 5 mW/cm.sup.2. Quite contrary to what would have been expected, it has been found that higher light fluence rates are, in fact, more protective of red blood cells than are lower light fluence rates.
Abstract: Novel herbicidal tetrazolinones of the formula ##STR1## wherein Y is hydrogen, bromine or methyl,R.sup.1 is ethyl or n-propyl, andR.sup.2 is cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl, with the proviso that the total number of carbon atoms in R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is 7 or 8.The new tetrazolinones may be mixed with other herbicides such as the sulfonylurea herbicides bensulfuron, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl (NC-311), and imazosulfuron (TH-913), and the acid amide herbicide KIH-6127 (tested herbicides A-D, respectively).
Abstract: A device for removing a set of teat cups from a dairy animal. The device includes a piston-and-cylinder mechanism. The cylinder is attached to the teat-cup set by a cord secured to the piston. The device is intended for use in a milking parlor where the teat cups are removed through the animal's hind legs after milking. The object is to prevent the milker from being impeded in his duties by the teat cups when they are not being used. The cord is provided with a guide that can be shifted by mechanical controls out of an active position wherein the cups can be removed along a vertical plane exactly between the animal's hind legs and into an inactive position horizontally remote therefrom and from the milker's head.
Abstract: In the method, the liquid waste substance is vaporized and oxidized in a stream of hot flue gas 4. This stream of flue gas 4 contains the oxygen necessary for oxidation. The essence of the method is that the liquid waste substance is sprayed into the stream of hot flue gas 4 as a fan-shaped flat jet with a component which is perpendicular to the main direction of flow, by means of one or more dual-substance nozzles 6 which are operated in a pulsed mode at a frequency of 5 s.sup.-1 to 70 s.sup.-1, and preferably 10 s.sup.-1 to 20 s.sup.-1, a fan-shaped spray carpet 7 with relatively large droplets of large range and a fan-shaped spray carpet 7 with relatively fine droplets of small range being generated in an alternating cycle at each dual-substance nozzle 6, so that the stream of flue gas 4 is supplied alternately with finely sprayed droplets of small range and large droplets which penetrate the flue gas with a relatively large range of throw. Numerals refer to FIG. 1.
Abstract: In addition to ash and coke, the gasification residue contains alkaline earth metal sulfide and alkaline earth metal oxide because desulfuring agents have been supplied to the gasifier. At temperatures from 5.degree. to 80.degree. C. the gasification residue is mixed with an acid-containing aqueous solution so that a gas which is rich in H.sub.2 S is produced. Ash, coke, and alkaline earth metal salt are supplied to a flotation zone, in which coke is separated. A solid residue which contains ash and alkaline earth metal salt is withdrawn from the flotation zone. Carbonic acid or dilute sulfuric acid is preferably used as an acid.

Abstract: Novel microcapsules are characterized in that their walls are made of reaction products of guanidine compounds and polyisocyanates or contain such reaction products. Dispersions containing such microcapsules can be prepared by replacing the amines, amino alcohols or hydrazine compounds in processes known per se for preparing microcapsule dispersions from polyisocyanates and amines, amino alcohols or hydrazine compounds by guanidine compounds. The present invention also relates to no-carbon copy papers containing dyestuff precursors in microcapsules whose walls are made of reaction products of guanidine compounds and polyisocyanates or contain such reaction products.
Abstract: A milk line valve comprises a slide, a connector and a saddle. A port in the saddle opens into the milk line through an annular seal and the slide obstructs the seal. When the connector is inserted, it moves the slide into a position in which it unblocks the port and allows it to communicate with an opening in the connector. The slide and connector can be forced against the seal by connector guides and springs which force the guides against the seal with a prescribed force.
