Abstract: A method and apparatus for screening patients for nervous system dysfunction including neurological capacity and dysfunction. A patient profile of actual functional activity of a brain of a patient is produced and compared with at least one marker. The marker is a profile of predetermined functional activity at a plurality of sets of predetermined coordinates of a given brain geometry.
Abstract: The present invention relates to valine-containing, substituted pseudopeptides of the general formula (I) ##STR1## in which the substituents have the meaning given in the description, to processes for their preparation, and to their use as anti-viral agents, in particular against cytomegaloviruses.

Abstract: From a synthesis gas which contains hydrogen and carbon oxides, methanol is produced on copper-containing catalysts under pressures in the range from 20 to 20 bars and at temperatures in the range from 200 to 350.degree. C. The synthesis gas is passed through a first synthesis reactor, which consists of a shaft reactor and contains a fixed bed of a copper-containing catalyst. The reaction in the shaft reactor is carried out adiabatically and without a recycling of synthesis gas. Together with recycle gas, the gas mixture which has not been reacted in the first synthesis reactor is passed through a second synthesis reactor, which contains a copper-containing catalyst, which is disposed in tubes and is indirectly cooled through boiling water. 10 to 30% of the carbon oxides of the synthesis gas are reacted in the shaft reactor to form methanol.

Abstract: Two chimeric monoclonal antibodies are disclosed which recognize the human interlukin-2-receptor and are capable of inhibiting interlukin-2 dependent lymphocyte proliferation. The antibodies comprise the variable regions of monoclonal antibodies AHT-54 or AHT-107 linked to a human Fe region.
Abstract: Sewage sludge is mixed with organic material such as woodchips in a three screw mixer so that moving masses are created in the mixing compartment, there being a shearing action at the interfaces between the masses. The mixer includes the mixing compartment and a holding compartment into which dewatered sludge is continuously charged. There is a gate between the compartments which is opened when it is desired to convey sludge from the holding compartment to the mixing compartment. The shearing action results in the organic material being coated with a thin layer of sludge without the formation of dewatered sludge lumps which would rot instead of composting.

Abstract: A multilayer material for sliding surface bearings comprises a metal backing layer, a sintered porous bearing layer of a bearing metal, and a low-friction layer consisting of a mixture of PTFE and 5 to 30% by volume metal filler, and fills also the pores of the bearing layer. To reduce the wear the mixture of PTFE and metal filler contains also 5 to 40% by volume PVDF.

Abstract: A presentation which, in the form of a film, permits the individual dosage of drugs, confectionary, other food, cosmetics and the like for oral application or intake. The presentation is characterized by the fact that it comprises a mass of 20 to 60%-wt. of at least a film former, 2 to 40%-wt. of at least a gel former, 0.1 to 35%-wt. of at least an active substance, and up to 40%-wt. of an inert filling agent, being applied on a carrier, or by consisting of a mass having the aforementioned composition but is unsupported. In the production thereof, an intimate mixture of said components is prepared, optionally with the addition of up to 30%-wt. of a polar solvent, and processed to form a homogeneous, spreadable or extrudable mass.

Abstract: A pilot valve for controlling a pneumatically actuated main valve of a milking-system pulsator, has an electromagnet that it is alternately energized and de-energized displacing an armature back and forth between each end of a stroke. At one end, the armature seals an air-supply line and at the other end a vacuumizing line. The lines are accordingly alternately connected to a valve chamber, and the valve chamber communicates with the main valve through a control channel. The armature is connected to a diaphragm so as to provide axial guidance for the armature without friction. The diaphragm is made of resilient material and is interposed between the armature and the electromagnet such that, when the armature is at one end of its stroke, it seals off the air-supply line.
