  • Patent number: 5186376
Abstract: A dispenser is used for dispensing plastic film from a roll. The dispenser has a housing that may be mounted under a shelf or cupboard or on a wall. The housing consists of a cover unit that is installed in the place of use and a releasable base unit that fits into the bottom of the cover unit and is held in place with resiliently biased locking tabs. The base unit carries the roll of film, so that the roll is readily installed on the base unit when separated from the cover. The loaded base unit is easily lifted into place. The film is dispensed through a dispensing slot at the back of the base unit. Lengths of film are severed using a cutter at the front of the base unit. The length of film between the dispensing opening and the cutter is prevented from clinging to the underside of the base unit by using a non-planar, roughened surface on the under side of the base plate.

  • Patent number: 5185595
Abstract: A rockbolt monitor monitors increased loadings on a rockbolt in underground mines. The monitor includes a rockbolt plate fitted on the rockbolt to engage the surface of the rock, a stack of belleville washers on the end of the rockbolt outside the rockbolt plate and a spring seat plate outside the belleville washers. When a nut is fitted onto the rockbolt and torqued, the belleville washers will compress to provide the desired force urging the rockbolt plate against the surface of the rock. This spring arrangement allows relative movement of the rockbolt plate on the rockbolt in response to ground movement, such as caused by blasting. The load indicator itself includes a threaded sleeve screwed into a threaded bore in the spring seat plate. A spring loaded piston rides in the sleeve. It is biased into engagement with the rockbolt plate.

  • Patent number: 5179944
Abstract: A therapeutic pad is formed from a container having elongate compartments arranged in parallel relationship across the width of the container and extending substantially across the full length of the container. The container is formed from a fabric material which is permeable to moisture but contains the filler material which is sand. The compartments are filled with the sand. The use of sand allows moisture to be applied to the container which will then be held within the interstices of the sand for either heating by microwave or cooling by freezing. A separate cover is formed from a quilted padded fabric material shaped to double the size of the container so that it can be folded to cover both sides of the container. One half of the cover includes a moisture impermeable layer to prevent the escape of moisture from that side while the other side allows the escape of moisture. This allows the user choice of applying either moist heat or dry heat to the body of the patient.

  • Patent number: 5177470
Abstract: The blockage module is designed to be mounted on air seeder seeding equipment. Piezoelectric sensors extending into the flow tubes monitor flow by producing high frequency ringing signals when struck by seeds. During a calibration step, the module will monitor each sensor and adjust the gain of the signal until the number of seed hits per second above a fixed voltage threshold is near a predetermined value. Each sensor connected to the module will be similarly calibrated, and the calibrated gain and hit rate will be stored. It has been found that if a blockage or partial blockage occurs under these calibrated conditions, the number of hits above the fixed voltage threshold will be sharply reduced. The reduced hit rate is compared to the calibrated hit rate, and an alarm is generated if the reduction is great enough. Because the reduced hit rate is immediately detectable, the response time to report a blockage is very short.
