Patent number: 5833809Abstract: A twin-wire former of a paper machine, for high speed paper machines whose web running speed is of an order of from about 1600 m/min to about 2500 m/min. The former includes a carrying wire guided in a loop and a covering wire guided in a loop to define a twin-wire zone and an inlet or forming gap between the wires. A pulp suspension layer or a pulp suspension jet is fed into the inlet or forming gap through a discharge duct of a headbox. The former also includes, as a combination, a first forming-suction roll arranged proximate the forming gap in a loop of one of the wires and a second forming-suction roll arranged inside the loop of the wire opposite to the wire inside whose loop the first forming roll is arranged. The forming-suction rolls have suction zones over which the twin-wire zone is curved on certain sectors. In the suction zones, the vacuum levels are arranged adjustable independently from one another, and possibly relative to one another, so as to minimize the unequalsidedness of the web.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1995Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventor: Michael Odell

Patent number: 5817167Abstract: A desiccant dehumidifier is provided in which a desiccant material is applied to a first end of a heat pipe heat exchanger. During the sorption phase, a supply air stream is exposed to the desiccant material on the first end of the heat pipe heat exchanger and a second air stream, which could be ambient atmosphere, is exposed to the second end of the heat pipe heat exchanger. The moisture from the supply air stream is transferred to the desiccant material. However, the heat pipe heat exchanger acts as a heat sink and adsorbs the heat generated by the moisture transfer and transfers it to the second end of the heat pipe heat exchanger. At the second end of the heat pipe heat exchanger, the heat is transferred to the second air stream. As a result, both the supply air stream and the desiccant material remain at a substantially constant temperature during the sorption phase.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1996Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Des Champs Laboratories IncorporatedInventor: Nicholas H. Patent number: 5813496Abstract: A system for control and monitoring of the circulation lubrication of the bearings of the revolving cylinders and rolls in a paper machine or equivalent in which lubrication oil is fed from an oil-lubrication center or centers through a system of pipes into lubrication points. From these lubrication points, the lubrication oil is passed back through a system of return pipes into the oil-lubrication center or centers. The system includes actuator panels placed and grouped in the vicinity of the lubrication points primarily above the floor level of the paper machine hall or equivalent. From the actuator panels, lubricant feed pipes are passed to several lubrication points placed in the vicinity. The actuator panels have a feed-back connected regulation loop for lubricant flow quantity provided for each lubrication point, which regulation loop includes an oil-flow regulation valve, an actuator motor for same, as well as an oil-flow measurement device and a regulation circuit.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1996Date of Patent: September 29, 1998Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventors: Hannu Hyvonen, Pauli Pakarinen, Jukka Koiranen, Harri Vahatalo

Patent number: 5782729Abstract: A method for regulating the loading of adjustable-crown roll having a stationary roll axle around which a roll mantle is rotatingly mounted, and of which roll a nip is formed with a backup roll. The deflection of the roll mantle and/or the linear load in the nip is regulated by loading elements and a backup zone supported on the roll axle and acting upon the inner face of the roll mantle in the direction of the nip plane. Upon the inner face of the roll mantle of the roll of the backup zone/zones, a sum force is produced which acts in the nip plane in a direction substantially opposite to the force produced by the loading element, and the force effect applied by the backup zone/zones to the inner face of the roll mantle is applied, examined in the direction of the circumference, to more than one point.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1996Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventor: Juhani Vestola
