  • Patent number: 5703574
Abstract: A method and device for transferring a measurement signal from a revolving roll used in a paper making machine, in which detectors are arranged in the transverse direction of the roll, preferably uniformly spaced. Measurement signals generated by the detectors are passed to a measurement signal reading unit for reading the measurement of the detectors which is installed preferably at the end of the roll. From the measurement signal reading unit, the signals are transmitted wirelessly further as telemeter signals to a reading unit which is placed outside the roll and connected to a PC or equivalent computer. In the measurement signal reading unit for reading the measurement of the detectors, a transponder is arranged into which an unique code is coded for each detector. The signals are processed in the entire measurement process as analog signals.

  • Patent number: 5698012
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus capable of exhibiting an excellent exhaust gas purifying capability and restoring the capability to an initial level even after running for a long period of time. An electrification mesh section electrostatically negatively charges useless particulates contained in exhaust gas and a purification filter section adsorbs thereon the particulates thus charged, resulting in the particulates being separated from the exhaust gas. Also, when the purification filter is made of carbon fiber or carbon particles or the denitration filter section is additionally provided, a reduction in concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas is accomplished as well. In a reactivation unit, cleaning liquid cleans the purification filter section to remove useless particulates therefrom, so that an exhaust gas purification capacity of the exhaust gas purifying apparatus may be restored to a level substantially equal to an initial level thereof.

  • Patent number: 5695613
Abstract: A rib construction for a draining device in a paper machine in which a loading rib is used to support and/or to load a wire or wires in a paper machine and/or to doctor water from the face of a wire or wires. The rib is loaded by pressure of a medium. Between the rib and its frame part, a pressure space is formed and defined by a flexible belt and into the loading pressure is passed into this pressure space. The flexible belt defines the pressure space so that the area of effect of the loading force is independent from the movement of the rib toward the wire(s).

  • Patent number: 5690792
Abstract: A set of ribs in a dewatering device in a paper machine which is used to support and/or to load the wire or wires in the paper machine and/or to doctor water from an inner face of a loop of the wire or wires. The set of ribs includes at least two transverse ribs placed one after the other at a distance from one another in the machine direction. The height positions of the ribs are adjustable and the ribs are interconnected in pairs by intermediate parts. The intermediate parts connect to the ribs by mechanisms of four articulated joints placed at a distance from one another in the transverse direction of the wire/wires so that the positions of the ribs in the horizontal direction remaining invariable irrespective of the height positions of the ribs in relation to one another. The intermediate parts and associated articulation mechanism are placed at a distance from one another in the vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 5690999
Abstract: The invention relates to a coating device for the coating of a size-press roll, paper or board or an equivalent moving base. The coating device includes a revolving coating bar which rests against a moving base. The coating bar extends across the machine width and is supported on a cradle substantially over its entire length. The coating bar spreads and smooths a coating agent introduced into the coating device and applied onto the moving base before the moving base contacts the coating bar. The coating bar in accordance with the invention is a smooth bar of large diameter, fitted against the moving base so that the profile of coating quantity of the coating agent can be controlled.

  • Patent number: 5689956
Abstract: A hydraulic variable speed drive assembly including a hydraulic pump having a cylinder with an associated end cover, a hydraulic motor having a cylinder with an associated end cover, and an intermediate plate with ports or passages for enabling a flow of fluid from the hydraulic pump to the hydraulic motor at a high pressure and from the hydraulic motor to the hydraulic pump at a low pressure, in order to close the circuit. The shafts of the rotors of the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic motor have a common geometric axis, static with respect to the outside, about which they can rotate independently, this rotation being their only possible movement. The variable drive assembly has as its only possible movement, the rotation about a geometric axis fixed with respect to the outside and is different from the geometric axis of the hydraulic pump cylinder, from the geometric axis of the hydraulic motor cylinder, and from the common geometric axis of the rotors.

  • Patent number: 5690791
Abstract: A press section of a paper machine through which a paper web has a substantially closed and supported draw including an extended-nip zone and an equalizing-nip zone following the extended-nip zone in the running direction of the web. In the equalizing-nip zone, the asymmetry of roughness is equalized that was formed in the web to be pressed in the preceding press nip or nips, while not dewatering the web to a substantial extent. The extended-nip zone and the equalizing-nip zone are formed between three press components which are interconnected in a compact way so that the extended nip is formed by a press component provided with a flexible mantle together with a press roll provided with a rigid mantle. The press roll with the rigid mantle also forms the equalizing-nip zone together with a smooth-faced equalizing-press roll.

  • Patent number: 5688372
Abstract: A method and device in the regulation of a headbox. The headbox includes a pulp inlet header, after the pulp inlet header, seen in the pulp flow direction, a distributor manifold whose pipes are opened into an intermediate chamber. The headbox comprises an attenuation chamber placed in connection with the intermediate chamber and, after the intermediate chamber, a turbulence generator having tubes which are opened, at their outlet end, into a discharge duct and, at their inlet end, into the intermediate chamber. In the method, into different positions along the width of the headbox, a pulp suspension flow is introduced, the concentration of this flow is adjustable by combining two component flows. In the method, in the regulation of the concentration of the flow passed into the pulp suspension, two component flows are combined by into the pulp suspension flow introducing an additional flow. The mixing ratio of the combined flow is regulated by adjusting the additional component flow.

  • Patent number: 5685813
Abstract: A method for fitting a roll mantle of a tubular roll used in a paper machine or equivalent with glide bearings and a tubular roll. The roll mantle is supported on a stationary roll axle by hydraulic glide bearing elements acting upon the roll mantle and/or upon the roll ends. The bearing elements are loaded hydraulically by the pressure of a first pressure medium. The roll is loaded from outside radially in the direction of at least one plane, i.e. in a so-called principal loading direction. The roll mantle is supported on the roll axle by the glide bearing elements which act radially substantially in the principal loading direction in opposite directions and which are provided with a device for regulating the braking pressure provided by a second pressure medium, so that in the principal loading direction, the roll mantle is allowed to move over a certain distance.

  • Patent number: 5684097
Abstract: A process for producing polyethylene compositions in the presence of a catalytic system of ethylene polymerizing catalyst and cocatalyst in a multistage continuous reaction sequence consisting of successive liquid phase and gas phase polymerizations is disclosed. In the first step of the process, ethylene and optionally hydrogen and comonomer are polymerized in a first loop reactor in a low boiling hydrocarbon medium in the presence of ethylene polymerizing catalyst and cocatalyst. The reaction mixture is then removed and then transferred to a second loop reactor where polymerization is continued by addiing ethylene, hydrogen and optionally inert hydrocarbon, comonomers and cocatalysts. Thereafter, the reaction mixture is removed from the second loop reactor along with an essential part of the reaction medium and transferred to a gas phase reactor where polymerizing is continued in the presence of added ethylene and optionally hydrogen, comonomers and cocatalysts to form an end product.
