Patent number: 5582687Abstract: The invention relates to a twin-wire web former for a paper machine wherein a covering wire and a carrying wire form a twin-wire forming zone between them. A method for dewatering a web is also disclosed. In the invention, water is drained out of a web running through the twin-wire zone through both of the wires. After the twin-wire zone, the web is separated from the covering wire and is transferred on the carrying wire to a pick-up point. In hybrid formers, after an initial single-wire forming zone preceding the twin-wire zone, and in gap formers, after a curved forming zone placed directly after a forming gap, there is a forming shoe provided with a ribbed deck and arranged inside one of the wire loops. This forming shoe is followed by dewatering and web forming units which include forming ribs and are placed inside both of the wire loops. At least one of the dewatering and web forming units is loaded by means of a pressure-hose arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1994Date of Patent: December 10, 1996Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventors: Michael Odell, Pekka Evasoja, Jyrki Jaakkola, Jouko Aula

Patent number: 5566451Abstract: A method for providing a tubular roll mantle of a roll for a paper machine or equivalent with glide bearings and a roll including glide-bearings. The roll mantle is supported on a stationary roll axle by hydraulic glide-bearing members acting upon the roll mantle or upon the roll ends. The bearing members are loaded hydraulically by a pressure medium. The roll mantle is supported on the roll axle by at least one pair of glide-bearing members which acting radially and/or axially in opposite directions. When an outside force that shifts or attempts to shift the roll mantle in the direction transverse to the main loading direction and/or in the axial direction is applied to the roll mantle, the pressure in the glide-bearing member placed at the side of the higher loading is adjusted to a level higher than the pressure in the glide-bearing member acting in the opposite direction so that the outside forces are neutralized.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventors: Juhani Niskanen, Pekka Kivioja, Juha Lahtinen, Esa Lensu, Esa Salavamaki

Patent number: 5567479Abstract: A method and device for coating of the face of a roll in a film size press with a coating agent by a coating device including a coating doctor that extends across the machine width and is loaded against the face of a roll in the film size press. The coating doctor spreads and smooths the coating agent, which has been introduced into the coating device and applied as a film onto the roll face before the coating doctor in the direction of rotation of the roll. To prevent the formation of streaks in the coating-agent film, in particular of streaks resulting from cavitation, adhesion of coating agent from the coating-agent film to the trailing side of the coating doctor is prevented by keeping the trailing side of the coating doctor moist or wet. Adhering of coating agent to the trailing edge of the coating blade is prevented by feeding a moistening medium as a constant flow to the area of the trailing edge.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1993Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventor: Rauno Rantanen
