  • Patent number: 6071963
Abstract: Novel, stable, cold water dispersible preparations of fat-soluble substances contain a microbially produced oil rich in arachidonic acid. These preparations are manufactured by preparing an aqueous emulsion of the microbially produced oil which has been stabilized with an antioxidant and fish gelatin and if desired converting this emulsion into a dry powder. The preparations in accordance with the invention can be used for human nutrition.

  • Patent number: 6067842
Abstract: An olfactometer has a sniffing port, a sample supply for generating a sample flow constituted by a carrier gas and sample head space from a saturation chamber and for supplying the sample flow to the sniffing port, a carrier gas supply, and mixer for predetermined dilution of the sample flow. The carrier gas supply includes mass flow controllers with variable flow rates disposed before the saturation chamber for providing variable carrier gas flow to the saturation chamber. A multiplicity of capillaries of different diameter connect the mixing means with the sniffing port via individual injectors. A computer may be interphased with the olfactometer to regulate the amount of sample and/or carrier gas in the sample flow.

  • Patent number: 6066731
Abstract: A process for the production of a Mannich reagent comprises reacting formaldehyde, especially paraformaldehyde, with a secondary amine in the complete or almost complete absence of a solvent. An alternative comprises reacting a diaminomethane produced from a secondary amine, formaldehyde, especially paraformaldehyde, as well as water with one another in about equimolar amounts. The invention is also concerned with a process for the aminomethylation of .delta.-tocopherol or of tocopherol mixtures containing this and comprises using a Mannich reagent which has been produced in the above manner. After completion of this aminomethylation process excess Mannich reagent can be separated by distillation and can be reacted with water and formaldehyde, especially paraformaldehyde, in order to regenerate further Mannich reagent suitable for use in the aminomethylation, this regeneration representing a further aspect of the invention. Finally, the invention includes certain novel bis(aminomethyl)-.gamma.-tocopherols.

  • Patent number: 6060267
Abstract: A process for the enzymatic production of vitamin B.sub.6 which includes incubating 1-deoxy-D-threo-pentulose and 4-hydroxy-L-threonine with an enzyme system that is cell free or essentially cell free and prepared from the cells of a microorganism belonging to the genus Rhizobium, Sinorhizobium, Flavobacterium, Chryseobacterium, Lactobacillus, Arthrobacter, Bacillus, Klebsiella, Escherichia, Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Enterobacter, Serratia, Corynebacterium, Brevibacterium, Exiguobacterium, Saccharomyces, Yamadazyma, Pichia or Candida, in the presence of NADP.sup.+, NAD.sup.+, ATP. Manganese and magnesium ions stimulate the above reaction. This process affords high yields of vitamin B.sub.6, a vitamin essential for the nutrition of animals, plants and microorganisms, and which is also useful as a medicine or food additive. In addition, an enzyme reaction system for producing vitamin B.sub.6 and a process for making the enzyme reaction system are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6002047
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a process for the catalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds on a catalyst of amorphous metal alloys and in a solvent, with the hydrogenation being carried out under near-critical or supercritical conditions of the solvent. The amorphous metal alloys can be produced by the shock cooling of alloy melts having eutectic solidification points. By hydrogenation at hydrogen partial pressures between 5 and 400 bar there is obtained outstanding space-time yields with high long-term stability of the catalytic activity.
