  • Patent number: 8270629
Abstract: A system and method allow for safe use of headphones that include a microphone when using the headphones with a cellular phone, a music device, or the like. A desired audio signal, e.g., a voice of a caller or music, is discontinued when a microphone associated with the headphones picks up either a change in ambient noise or a particular type of ambient noise, e.g., an ambulance, a police car, a fire truck, someone yelling, brakes squealing, or the like. During this state, the headphones output either an audible alert signal, the ambient noise, or a pre-stored signal that states “fire,” “police,”, “yelling,” etc. In this way, a person can safely talk on the phone or listen to music when walking or driving, while still being cognizant of what is going on around them.

  • Patent number: 8266561
Abstract: A method for providing a high-speed cell library is provided. The method can include, for example, selecting a set of commonly-occurring logic functions. The method can then include obtaining a netlist of area distributions for each of the set of functions. The netlist can be used to synthesize a set of cell libraries wherein an N-diffusion to P-diffusion area allowance is varied among the set of cell libraries. Thereafter, the method may also include comparing a time delay associated with each of the set of cell libraries with a time delay of a library benchmark delay. Based on the comparing, a delay number may be associated with each of the cell libraries. Finally, the cell libraries may be ranked based on the respective delay numbers associated with each of the cell libraries.

  • Patent number: 8266460
Abstract: A Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) communication system dynamically provides power and data communications over a communications link. In an enterprise environment made up of one or more personal computing devices (e.g., personal or laptop computers), a switch determines a power classification for each device via a PoE control module that can be part of, for example, a Power Source Equipment/Powered Device (PSE/PD) system or a LAN-On-Motherboard/Powered Device (LOM/PD) system. A method of classifying power for each device includes detecting a device, polling it for power requirement information using a Layer 2 data link layer, receiving power requirement information from the device, and determining a power classification for the device. Power requirement information can include battery charge status, power load, power mode, etc., of the device. Various types of data packets can be used. The method can be repeated on a periodic basis, allowing power classification to be dynamic.
