Abstract: The present invention relates to recombinant thermophilic host cells comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heterologous protein, and a method of producing recombinant protein utilizing same. The recombinant hosts of the present invention provide a better morphology in tank fermentations than many known fungal host cells, such as Aspergillus, which morphology results in lower viscosity levels, and therefore improved productivity.
Abstract: The present invention relates to therapeutically active indole compounds, a method of preparing the same and to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds. The novel compounds are useful in treating diseases in the central nervous system related to the metabotropic glutamate receptor system.
Abstract: An enzyme exhibiting xylanase activity, which enzyme is immunologically reactive with an antibody raised against a purified xylanase derived from Aspercgillus aculeatus, CBS 101.43. The enzyme may be used for degrading plant cell wall components, e.g., in the preparation of feed, in baking, in the paper and pulp industry and in connection with separation of wheat into starch and gluten.

Abstract: A plastic top for adapting to a chosen syringe (14) a standard cartridge (8) of the kind having a neck (9) with a flange (10) and being closed by a rubber membrane (11) sealingly secured against the flange (10) by a metal cover (12) having its edge beaded behind the flange. This plastic top has a bore (2) for receiving the neck part (9) of the cartridge (8), which bore (2) has a diameter making it fit over the metal cover (12) and is provided with protrusions (3;9) gripping behind the edge of the metal cover (12) when the neck part (9) is inserted in the bore. The outer contour of the plastic top is adapted to the syringe type in which the cartridge is going to be used. The plastic top is provided with a thread (5;18) coaxial with the bore to receive a needle hub (13) in a way making its needle (15) penetrate the membrane (11) of the cartridge (8) when the hub (13) is mounted on the thread (5) of the plastic top.
Abstract: An active recombinant trypsin-like protease enzyme comprising the amino acid residues 25-224 of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, as well as a DNA construct encoding the enzyme and comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:1. The enzyme may be used as a detergent enzyme.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a protein composition soluble in organic solvents, comprising mixing a protein of interest with a surfactant and a water immiscible organic solvent in amounts and under conditions conducive to the formation of a reverse micelle solution, and evaporating the resulting reverse micelle solution to dryness.
Abstract: A well tasting and organoleptically acceptable whey protein hydrolyzate is produced in high yield by a method using a combination of non-pH-stat hydrolysis and ultrafiltration. Preferably, the method is carried out by mixing a material containing at least 65% whey protein as dry matter and water to form a slurry containing a whey protein content of about 7-20%, heating the slurry to above 600.degree. C., adjusting the pH of the slurry to about 8, hydrolyzing the slurry with at least two different proteases to a degree of hydrolysis of between 17 and 35% without adjusting the pH during hydrolysis to produce a hydrolyzed slurry, inactivating the proteases and separating the hydrolyzed slurry with an ultrafiltration unit having a cut-off value above 10,000 to form a permeate containing the whey protein hydrolyzate. One protease may be obtained from B. Licheniformis and the other from B. Subtilis.

Abstract: A desired protein having the formula:A-B-C-Pwhereina) A is Lys or Arg, and B and C are arbitrary amino acids, orb) A is an arbitrary amino acid different from Pro, Lys and Arg, and B and/or C is Pro,is produced from a biosynthetically formed amino acid extended protein having the formula:X-A-B-C-Pwherein A, B, C and P are as defined above, and X is an amino acid sequence with an even number of amino acids, of which the first one, seen from the N-terminal end, is different from Lys and Arg, all other uneven amino acids are different from Pro, Lys and Arg, and all even amino acids are different from Pro, by reaction with the enzyme dipeptidyl aminopeptidase (DAP I). The desired protein is obtained in a pure state. Thus, e.g. hGH without content of Met-hGH may be produced by the process.

Abstract: Certain sugar derivatives have bleach-activating effect both on "hydrophilic" stains (e.g. tea or red wine) and on "hydrophobic" stains (e.g. grass or tomato sauce). The compounds in question are derivatives of pentoses or hexoses, having a long-chain acyl group and one or more short-chain acyl or aroyl groups attached through ester bonds. Optionally, a short-chain alkyl group is attached through a glycosidic bond. These compounds are non-toxic and biodegradable, and can conveniently be prepared by methods known in the art.
