Abstract: A magnetic rotary encoder for detecting the absolute value of an angular displacement using magneto-resistors is disclosed. A drum, disk or cup-shaped rotary member is attachable to a rotatable shaft. A magnetic medium divided into a plurality of tracks is provided on a surface of the rotary member. Each of the tracks produces magnetic fields changing in magnitude and direction as the rotary member revolves. Alternatively, a plurality of permanent magnets are provided on the surface of the rotary member to produce the alternating magnetic field as the rotary member revolves. A plurality of magneto-resistors are provided in the vicinity of the rotating paths of the tracks and produce analog signals indicative of changes in their electrical resistances. A rotary condition detector receives the analog signals and produces digital signals and/or an analog signal indicative of the angular distance moved by the rotatable shaft in an absolute value.
Abstract: A thin flexible film bag, oriented horizontally or integral therewith and preferably bearing an absorbent material chuck on its upper wall, forms a plenum chamber. A lower wall underlying the chuck and including small diameter perforations to create an air bearing for supporting the patient mover. The patient borne thereby lies on the chuck, some distance from an underlying fixed planar support surface. This permits the patient to be readily moved in a frictionless manner when air under pressure fills the plenum chamber and escapes through the perforations. Air enters the plenum chamber through an outer tube of thin, flexible material. Paired, opposed, flat and less flexible tongues define a short inner tube, being positioned within the outer tube, to permit airflow entry to the plenum chamber with the tongues being deflected away from each other. The tongues are pressed against each other and one side of the outer tube wall, due to elastic memory, to prevent air escape from the chamber at that point.
Abstract: A product rack structure for an automatic vending machine for cylindrically-shaped product items including a movable rack board disposed opposite one sidewall of the rack housing. Product supporting members are provided opposite one another on the rack board and sidewall. To vend a product item, the rack board is reciprocated once up and down. The vertical pitch of the supporting members, the horizontal spacing between supporting members and the stroke length of the rack board are determined such that each product item drops by one space for each reciprocation of the rack board.
Abstract: A stroboscope device for diagnosis of larynx emissions. The system uses a saw tooth wave for generating in synchronization with a vocal cord vibration saw tooth waves whose voltages are constant in minimum and maximum values. A reference voltage generating circuit is used whose output voltage is variable and a discharge tube light emission control signal generating circuit compares the instantaneous voltage of each saw tooth wave with the output of the reference voltage generating circuit to generate a discharge tube light emission control signal in a phase shift range with respect to said vocal cord vibration. The discharge tube light emission control signal may be generated in a desired phase of said vocal cord vibration every period of said vocal cord vibration or at a repetition rate of multiple periods of the vocal cord vibration.

Abstract: A throwaway tip for use in a lathe cutting tool. The tip has a cutting edge along the outer periphery and a succession of recesses are formed on the cutting surface. The recesses form a chip curling and cutting mechanism irrespective of the driving direction of the tip. The recesses may be of uniform diameter or preferably increase toward the center of the cutting edge line. The recesses may also be bevelled to facilitate entry and cutting of the chips.
Abstract: A quadrature receiver circuit in which the output frequency of a local oscillator is controlled to follow the free-running frequency of a voltage-controlled oscillator so that accurate four-phase demodulation is maintained independent of oscillator drift. The output control voltage of a phase comparator in a phase-locked loop circuit in the demodulator is coupled through a low-pass filter and a DC amplifier to the frequency control input of a voltage controlled local oscillator.
Abstract: A multilayer color photographic material with improved color reproduction comprising a support having thereon at least two photosensitive silver halide emulsion layers which provide color images having different colors from each other, the multilayer color photographic material containing at least one interlayer color correction coupler as defined hereinafter.
Abstract: A signal change-over amplifier for an FM receiver for switching over between AM and FM receiving modes without the addition of frequency response distortion or pop noise. The amplifier circuit includes two input signal control sections each of which includes a differential transistor pair. Activating current is fed to the emitters of the differential transistor pairs by a constant current source which is activated in response to the input control signal. The collectors of the transistor of the two input control sections are interconnected. The base of one transistor of one pair is coupled to the base of the corresponding transistor of the other pair. The input information-bearing signals are coupled to the bases of the other transistors in the two pairs. The interconnected collectors are coupled respectively to a transistor pair in an output section to which current is fed by a current mirror circuit. The final output is provided by a push-pull circuit.
Abstract: An MPX stereophonic demodulation switching circuit having first and second identical switching circuits adapted to transmit a composite input signal to respective output terminals. First and second switching elements are connected respectively between the junction points of resistors in first and second transmission paths in each switching circuit, and a reference voltage line. A voltage follower circuit is provided to produce a reference voltage. Groups of resistors are connected in parallel between the output terminal of the voltage follower and one respective output terminal. Third and fourth switching elements are connected respectively between the connection points of the resistors in each group of resistors and the reference voltage line in each switching circuit. Opposite pairs of switching elements in the two switching circuits are controlled to be alternately rendered conductive and non-conductive.
Abstract: Antithrombogenic polymeric materials are prepared by bonding a synthetic fibrinolytic compound or a combination of a synthetic fibrinolytic compound and a fibrinolytic enzyme to a polymeric material. Bonding is preferably by covalent or ionic bonding. The antithrombogenic polymeric materials are useful for preparing various types of medical articles that come into contact with blood.
Abstract: A thin, vertically oriented rectangular cutting blade having opposed vertical cutting edges and being reciprocated horizontally towards and away from opposite vertical stops, permits an end of a log to be inserted between given blade edges and stops during strokes in opposite directions, to sever the log into firewood length. Oppositely facing splitting wedges mounted to the blade just behind the cutting edges have their tapered splitting edges facing in the same direction as the blade edges for splitting the partially severed firewood length pieces into multiple sections prior to complete severance thereof from the log proper.
Abstract: An apparatus for raising a liquid aeration apparatus having a carrier element 62 which can be guided to a position engaging an air distributing pipe 36 to raise same by means of a guide rod 66. The movement of the guide rod is controlled by a guide device 64 disposed on the free end of a boom 52 suspended vertically above the air distributing pipe, such that the movement of the guide rod is restricted to a plane perpendicular to the air distributing pipe, thus preventing contact with and damage to aeration tubes 38 extending from the air distributing pipe.
