  • Patent number: 4274053
Abstract: A magnetic rotary encoder for detecting the absolute value of an angular displacement using magneto-resistors is disclosed. A drum, disk or cup-shaped rotary member is attachable to a rotatable shaft. A magnetic medium divided into a plurality of tracks is provided on a surface of the rotary member. Each of the tracks produces magnetic fields changing in magnitude and direction as the rotary member revolves. Alternatively, a plurality of permanent magnets are provided on the surface of the rotary member to produce the alternating magnetic field as the rotary member revolves. A plurality of magneto-resistors are provided in the vicinity of the rotating paths of the tracks and produce analog signals indicative of changes in their electrical resistances. A rotary condition detector receives the analog signals and produces digital signals and/or an analog signal indicative of the angular distance moved by the rotatable shaft in an absolute value.

  • Patent number: 4272856
Abstract: A thin flexible film bag, oriented horizontally or integral therewith and preferably bearing an absorbent material chuck on its upper wall, forms a plenum chamber. A lower wall underlying the chuck and including small diameter perforations to create an air bearing for supporting the patient mover. The patient borne thereby lies on the chuck, some distance from an underlying fixed planar support surface. This permits the patient to be readily moved in a frictionless manner when air under pressure fills the plenum chamber and escapes through the perforations. Air enters the plenum chamber through an outer tube of thin, flexible material. Paired, opposed, flat and less flexible tongues define a short inner tube, being positioned within the outer tube, to permit airflow entry to the plenum chamber with the tongues being deflected away from each other. The tongues are pressed against each other and one side of the outer tube wall, due to elastic memory, to prevent air escape from the chamber at that point.

  • Patent number: 4273959
Abstract: A stroboscope device for diagnosis of larynx emissions. The system uses a saw tooth wave for generating in synchronization with a vocal cord vibration saw tooth waves whose voltages are constant in minimum and maximum values. A reference voltage generating circuit is used whose output voltage is variable and a discharge tube light emission control signal generating circuit compares the instantaneous voltage of each saw tooth wave with the output of the reference voltage generating circuit to generate a discharge tube light emission control signal in a phase shift range with respect to said vocal cord vibration. The discharge tube light emission control signal may be generated in a desired phase of said vocal cord vibration every period of said vocal cord vibration or at a repetition rate of multiple periods of the vocal cord vibration.
