  • Patent number: 4277202
Abstract: In the automatic positioning of the end of an underwater flow line, particularly in deep water, on a base, the end of the flow line is lowered to a position adjacent a connecting sleeve. The end of the flow line is connected to a hauling cable extending through the sleeve and a pull is exerted on the cable to draw the end of the flow line into the sleeve. The sleeve is detachably mounted on positioning apparatus mounted on the base and pivotable relative thereto in azimuth and elevation to align with the flow line. When the end of the flow line has been received in the sleeve and locked thereto, the sleeve is positioned on the base, locked thereto and released from the apparatus which is withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 4275608
Abstract: A speed change gearbox for agricultural tractors and similar vehicles has an elongate casing rotatably mounting input and output shafts which are coupled by gearing comprising reduction means selectively operable to provide one of a plurality of reduction ratios, and a final gearing stage which serves to set a particular range of ratios. The reduction means includes an epicyclic gear mechanism provided with associated hydraulic control means for selectively controlling movement of various of its elements, and pairs of continuously meshing gears operatively selectable by further hydraulic control means. The arrangement of the hydraulic control means is such that they are all centered on the input shaft which enables the transverse bulk of the gearbox to be minimized.

  • Patent number: 4276075
Abstract: A machine for the manufacture of glass articles by blow moulding comprises a plurality of article-forming assemblies mounted in a circular array on a rotatable carousel. Each assembly has a number of operating means which cooperate to shape a gob of molten glass, first by rough-blanking using a plunger, and then by blow-moulding, into the required article. Control of said operating means is effected by a set of primary control members adjustably positioned in fixed locations around the carousel, and a respective set of carousel-mounted secondary control members associated with each assembly. As the carousel rotates, the secondary control members are moved past and influenced by corresponding ones of the primary control members and, as a result, the operating means of each assembly are appropriately controlled to shape the required article.

  • Patent number: 4275488
Abstract: A combined well casing spider and elevator is formed of a main body having a downwardly tapered bowl inner wall. The main body has an open end wall having spaced apart recessed flanges on either side of the opening. A gate member is pivotally secured to one of the recess flanges and releasably secured to the other of the recessed flanges to close the open end wall when the gate is in a secured position. The gate member pivots laterally when released to permit the lateral entry of a well casing within the area defined by the bowl inner wall. A circumferential array of casing gripping slips are arranged in opposing pairs for vertical and radial mounting in surface contact with the bowl inner wall, the gripping slips forming a circular hole within the center of the array to receive a well casing. The slips are vertically moveable along the bowl inner wall to effect radial enlargement and contraction of the circular hole formed thereby by upward and downward movement respectively to release and grip the casing.

  • Patent number: 4275918
Abstract: A tracked agricultural tractor in which the frame of the driver's cab is mounted on the tractor body by a suspension including a pair of transverse suspension structures, a pair of rigid transverse support structures and first and second shock absorber means, can be driven at speed over rough ground without a substantial adverse effect on the driver's comfort, since the rolling and pitching oscillations of the cab relative to the tractor body are damped by the shock absorbers, and their amplitudes limited by stop elements acting between the suspension and the cab frame.

  • Patent number: 4276007
Abstract: A rotary fluid pump having a rotor with carbon vanes disposed in a rotor chamber. A cylindrical aluminum sleeve is force fitted into a mating arrangement with the inner peripheral surface of the rotor housing. The aluminum sleeve reduces the friction between the housing and the vanes. The sleeve may be of the same axial length or shorter than the rotor housing. If it is equal end seal plates are employed to provide the necessary expansion gap or end washers are employed at the housing to increase the effective axial length.

  • Patent number: 4275523
Abstract: An apparatus for use in monitoring the numbers of a selected species of insect comprising one or more traps into which is put a synthesized pheromone to attract that particular insect. Each trap has a grille comprising a plurality of bars between which is applied a high voltage by means of a high voltage generator, so that when an insect of the selected species tries to enter the trap it touches adjacent bars and is electrocuted by the electric discharge between them. This discharge is detected by a discharge detector connected to the trap and the detector passes a signal to a transmitter which transmits it to a central receiver equipped with a discriminator for ignoring signals other than those from the transmitter and for passing the signals representing discharges to a pulse counter whereby a total of the number of insects trapped in a given time can be obtained at a central station without visiting each trap.
