  • Patent number: 4271967
Abstract: A system of sorting elongated pieces such as asparagus, wherein each of the elongated pieces are successively conveyed by a conveyer and detected as a still image by a sensor such as a TV camera. In processing a signal representative of the still image a stem diameter of the piece and a ratio of the spike maximum diameter of the piece to the stem diameter are obtained as sorting out factors by calculation. When the calculation values of the sorting out factors satisfy predetermined reference values, the piece is further sorted out according to size. The stem diameter is measured at a position which is spaced from the cut end of the stem by a predetermined dimension toward the spike thereof.

  • Patent number: 4272789
Abstract: When a document is scanned, for example in a facsimile transmitter, an image analysis signal is formed. This signal has a level which varies between a maximum black level and a maximum white level and it is converted into an on/off (e.g. black and white) signal by comparison with a threshold. For good results on backgrounds of various tones it is necessary for the threshold to vary. The present pulse-forming circuit has a first detector 2 arranged over each scan line to detect and store a background level signal .DELTA.. It has a second detector 3 arranged over a few successive image points to detect an average value signal V'. These signals are combined by threshold determining circuit 4 to generate a threshold V.sub.d such that V.sub.d =K.DELTA.+K'.DELTA. where K and K' are two constants satisfying the relationships:0.ltoreq.K<1;0<K'<1; and0<K+K'<1, e.g. K=1/3 and K'=1/2A comparator 1 performs the on/off conversion of the analog analysis signal V.sub.a into a binary pulsed signal V.sub.

  • Patent number: 4271931
Abstract: A control device for an elevator, which is made up of a position detecting device for detecting the position at which rotary elements such as the armature of an electric motor and sheaves produce vibration torque and a cancellation signal generating circuit. The circuit is employed for generating a cancellation signal to cancel the vibration torque in response to the output of the position detecting means. A control circuit is used for applying current necessary for cancelling the vibration torque to the motor by receiving the cancellation signal. Even if the vibration is caused by the eccentricity of the rotary elements or by the torque ripples generated by the armature of the motor, it is not sensed by the persons in the elevator cage.

  • Patent number: 4272670
Abstract: A furnace is described which comprises an insulated muffle comprising a ceramic fibrous body into which work pieces may be directly introduced through an opening. A closure member is arranged to close the opening, and means are provided for energizing a coiled heating element disposed in an open channel within the body and for controlling the rate at which the muffle is heated. The opening is arranged at the top of the muffle so as to ensure its rapid cooling subsequent to removal of the closure member therefrom. To enable the muffle to withstand rapid cooling, and in particular to retain the heating element in position, a plurality of strips of ceramic fibrous material are cemented diagonally across the top of the open channel. The closure member may be latched in the closed position by atmospheric pressure as the result of evacuating the interior of the furnace.
