  • Patent number: 6732201
Abstract: A system has a plurality of enclosures. Each enclosure has two enclosure services modules. Each enclosure services module has an IN port and an EXPANSION port. Each enclosure services module is able to determine the data rate of incoming data and check the validity of this data. If the data rate is other than what the enclosure services module is set for, the data rate of the enclosure services module is changed to that of the incoming data. In the system, there are a disk array controller having a first channel and a second channel. The first channel is formed in sequence from a disk array controller to a first enclosure services module of a first enclosure and between first enclosure services modules of successive enclosures to a last enclosure. The second channel is formed in reverse sequence from the disk array controller to the second enclosure services module of the last enclosure and between second enclosure services modules of successive enclosures to the first enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6728789
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method employing a static logical identifier. In an aspect of the present invention, an input/output interface suitable for communicatively coupling a host with a target device may include at least one port communicatively coupling the input/output interface with a host and at least one port communicatively coupling the input/output interface with a target. A controller is communicatively coupled to the ports. When the controller receives an identifier from the host, the controller generates a logical identifier from the identifier, the logical identifier suitable for being utilized in conjunction with a look-up table to provide access to the target.

  • Patent number: 6701503
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for providing an overlap remover manager. A method for removing overlaps in a circuit design for an integrated circuit may include initiating an overlap remover manager, wherein the overlap remover manager is suitable for moving cells of an integrated circuit design to remove cell overlaps. A search for critical wires is performed and a determination is made of which violated moves of cells caused at least one critical wire. A determined violated move of the cells is rolled back and the overlap remover manager employed to remove overlaps between rolled back cells.

  • Patent number: 6701499
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for effective approximation of smooth functions. In an aspect of the present invention, a method for approximating a smooth function for implementation in an integrated circuit design includes receiving a function f for computation with an accuracy of m bits by an integrated circuit. The function is computed based on an operator with one more output than the accuracy of m bits and a value of f′ is determined by choosing from one of the at least two numbers computed utilizing the operator with one more output. The value may be chosen based on complexity issues in the construction of a binary decision diagram for use in designing the integrated circuit.

  • Patent number: 6697900
Abstract: Control signals of an I/O or peripheral bus are sensed during cycles of the bus and information describing bus phases of the signals is derived by sensing the control signals and is stored in a register. During a sampling time period, a processor reads the bus phase information from the register and computes bus activity information by using the bus phase information. The computed bus information is continuously updated and displayed to reflect actual communication activity on the bus occurring substantially in real-time.

  • Patent number: 6693784
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for actively limiting transient voltages across a voltage bus. Circuitry coupled to a bus may adjust the voltage level of a bus to a voltage within a desired range when transient voltages cause the voltage level on the bus to fall outside of a desired range. Circuitry of the present invention may include active elements that may adjust a voltage level of a bus in a rapid fashion. Additionally, use of the circuitry of the present invention reduces the cost and design limitations associated with stabilizing buses by solely using multiple low ESR/ESL capacitors.
