Abstract: An improved integrated bias reference provides a temperature and supply stable bias for devices such as radio frequency amplifiers with less complexity and expense than conventional bias references. The bias reference may be integrated onto a single GaAs die with other active circuitry such as an amplifier.
Abstract: A method for fabricating a capacitor on a semiconductor substrate is disclosed. The method may include simultaneously forming at least one via and at least one upper capacitor plate opening in a first dielectric layer having an underlying cap dielectric layer deposited over a first material region having a first conductive material within a conductive region and forming a trench above the via. The method may also include filling the via, trench, and upper capacitor plate opening with a second conductive material resulting in an integrated circuit structure and employing CMP to remove any excess second conductive material from the integrated circuit structure.
Abstract: Double balanced mixers having transistor pairs are affected by area mismatches between the transistors. The area mismatches can be represented as a ratio between the mixer core transistors that is directly related to voltage. Thus, an input voltage into one of the mixer core transistors in a transistor pair can compensate for the area mismatch. The compensation is achieved by a voltage track and hold feedback loop to one of the mixer core transistors.

Abstract: Upon reception of four GPS signals from GPS satellites and determining four pseudo ranges, along with ephemeris data previously stored in the GPS receiver, the location of the GPS receiver and real time clock time error is determined. The GPS receiver is in possession of four pseudo ranges and determines four unknown coordinate values (x, y, x, and time) identifying the location of the GPS receiver and real time clock error. The process of solving for four pseudo range formulas simultaneously with each pseudo range formula having an unknown “x”, “y” “z”, and time coordinates of the GPS receiver, results in identification of the coordinates and time of the GPS receiver. In a similar process, the GPS receiver receiving four GPS signals from four GPS satellites is able to determine four pseudo ranges. Using the four pseudo ranges, four pseudo range equations unknown values for “x”, “y”, “z” and time can be solved for simultaneously.

Abstract: A receiver circuit is for processing a received signal which includes at least a first portion and a second portion which repeats the content of the first portion after a repeat interval. For example, the receiver may be for DVB-T signals using COFDM. Two correlation values are measured. The first is between the first portion of the received signal, delayed by the repeat interval plus a difference interval, and the second portion. The second is between the first portion of the received signal, delayed by the repeat interval minus a difference interval, and the second portion. Any difference between the correlation values represents a difference between the receiver sampling rate, and the required sampling rate, and can be used to adjust the receiver sampling rate.

Abstract: The invention includes an integrated circuit chip having a closed loop control module. The closed loop control module includes a power amplifier coupled to a feedback control circuit. The power amplifier linearly amplifies a communication signal based on a modified control signal received from the feedback circuit. To produce the modified control signal, the feedback circuit may receive from the power amplifier a passive representation of the power amplifier collector current or an active representation of the power amplifier collector current. The feedback control circuit takes the collector current representative signal received from the power amplifier and compares to a voltage control signal. The comparison results in a signal that is passed through a loop integrator to create the modified control signal use to control the amplification of the communication signal in the power amplifier. A feedback saturation detecting circuit may be fixed about the loop integrator to prevent saturation.
Abstract: The invention includes a Doherty power amplifier system having a Doherty power amplifier electrically connected to a Doherty bias circuit. The Doherty amplifier includes a carrier amplifier and peaking amplifier. The Doherty bias circuit includes a current mirror and a first node that works to maintain a constant current in the current mirror as a function of a base voltage at the first node. The base voltage that results in a constant current is passed from a current mirror circuit to the carrier amplifier. The base voltage is at least one of scaled and shifted to produce a second voltage at a second node by employing a scaling/level shifting circuit. The scaling/level shifting circuit includes an input electronically connected to the current mirror circuit. The second voltage is passed through a voltage buffer to the peaking amplifier. An effect of the invention is to generate bias voltages for a Doherty amplifier that dynamically adjust to compensate for manufacturing process and environmental changes.

The invention can be made with multiple CPUs, a single CPU with dual input modes, on multiple IC chips, or as a single IC chip solution for small, low cost reception, downconversion, correlation, and verification systems.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for tuning a circularly polarized patch antenna to compensate for manufacturing tolerance variation, and to compensate for mistuning of the antenna due to the implementation of the product in which the antenna is used. Varactors are coupled to the metal patch portion of the antenna, and a dc voltage is applied to tune the antenna capacitance. The varactors can receive different voltages if desired.

Abstract: A method for navigation processing in a satellite positioning system receiver is disclosed. A method in accordance with the present invention comprises separating the three SATPS satellites into a first pair and a second pair, constructing a primary solution and an alternate solution, wherein the primary solution and the alternate solution satisfy the measurement constraints, computing a Doppler difference estimate for the primary solution and a Doppler difference estimate for the alternate solution, computing Doppler difference residuals for the first pair and the second pair of SATPS satellites, and comparing the Doppler difference residuals for said primary and alternate solutions to determine a valid solution. Typically, the computing of a Doppler difference residuals comprises differencing a measured Doppler difference from an estimated Doppler difference for the first pair and the second pair of SATPS satellites.

Abstract: A composition and method for lubricating and protecting the oral cavity generally and specifically the teeth, gums and tongue using a flavored petrolatum. In the preferred embodiment, the composition contains about 96%-98% (w/w) of petrolatum and about 2%-4% (w/w) of flavoring. The composition is liberally applied to the affected areas of the oral cavity to lubricate and protect those areas during dental or medical procedures having an aesthetically pleasing flavor without leaving an undesirable aftertaste.

Abstract: A pulse code modulation modem system is configured to transmit data from a first modem to a second modem over the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The PSTN employs robbed bit signaling (RBS) such that symbols affected by RBS arrive at the second modem in a periodic manner based on a period of six symbols. The modem system is configured such that signal segments are formatted and transmitted with six symbols per segment. After obtaining symbol synchronization, the second modem initializes a modulo-6 symbol counter such that the zero count corresponds to the first symbol of each received signal segment. Those symbols affected by RBS are identified and analyzed to determine optimized signal point constellations that may be used to compensate for the RBS on a symbol-by-symbol basis during subsequent encoding and decoding. Upon a loss of synchronization, the second modem resets its modulo-6 counter in response to the detection of the first symbol in a subsequent signal segment.
