  • Patent number: 7349497
Abstract: A receiver circuit is for processing a received signal which includes at least a first portion and a second portion which repeats the content of the first portion after a repeat interval. For example, the receiver may be for DVB-T signals using COFDM. In order to ensure that the estimated symbol start position is accurate, the receiver calculates two correlation values, namely an early correlation and a late correlation. The early correlation is measured between samples ahead of an assumed first portion start position and ahead of an assumed second portion start position, and the late correlation is measured between samples behind an assumed first portion end position and behind an assumed second portion end position. When the assumed start and end positions are accurate, the early and late correlations are equal, and so the assumed start and end positions are controlled to equalize the early correlation and the late correlation.

  • Patent number: 7339887
Abstract: Normal 802.3 Ethernet requires a tree topology. If a ring or a loop exists, then packets will be forwarded around the ring indefinitely. If the ring is broken, then there is no possibility of packets being propagated forever. This invention shows how to quickly impose a virtual break in the ring such that all nodes can communicate with each other, and how to remove the virtual break when a real failure occurs. This is accomplished by placing intelligent nodes on the ring that work together to virtually break and restore the ring. An embodiment is disclosed that allows a ring node to bridge user traffic in the case that no switch table entry is present for that traffic. This abstract is provided as an aid to those performing prior art searches and not a limitation on the scope of the claims.

  • Patent number: 7264551
Abstract: A Playing surface (12) that introduces “movement” or “motion” as a fourth dimension to the traditional game of billiards by altering the natural inertia of the billiard balls is disclosed. In one embodiment of the playing surface (12), “motion” is introduced through turning or rotating of a portion (22) of the playing surface (12) of the billiards table (10) in the same plane as the playing surface. By affecting introducing a new element that would affect the inertia of the balls, players would then be required to not only make judgments about the distance, angle and force that the cue ball should strike the target ball, but must also consider how those factors may be effective by the introduction of an element that may alter the typical movement of the balls. Accordingly, players will be faced with moving targets, moving obstacles and the possible redirection and/or change in speed of the target balls as they attempt to hit the balls into the pockets of the table.

  • Patent number: 7251562
Abstract: The invention comprises a set of pseudolites deployed throughout an area of interest in which the GPS constellation visibility may be limited, such as in and around some high-rise buildings in an urban setting, and a database of these installed pseudolite locations with their PRN numbers indexed by cell-site. When the cellular telephone is in communication with a particular tower or transceiver, the PRN numbers of all local pseudolites are transmitted to the cellular telephone. If the cellular telephone has a position solution which has been transmitted to the cell tower, prepositioning information for a code search can be transmitted to the phone as well. The phone can then augment the phone's normal acquisition list with the pseudolites in the area and track the pseudolites to augment navigation capabilities in a harsh environment.

  • Patent number: 7242729
Abstract: An apparatus and method for use by a receiver in decoding information sent by phase-shift keying over a carrier frequency is disclosed. The method is well suited for use with power line carrier (PLC) applications as it is adapted to appropriately position the sampling window based on a zero crossing of one of the phases of the power line. The method allows for receipt and processing of information on more than one carrier frequency and from transmitters operating on a phase of the power line that is different than the phase used by the receiver to detect the zero crossings of the alternating current at the power grid frequency on the power line. A number of alternative embodiments are included.

  • Patent number: 7236883
Abstract: The invention relates to an aided Global Positioning System (GPS) subsystem within a wireless device. The wireless device includes a wireless processing section capable of receiving signals from a wireless network and a GPS subsystem having a radio frequency (RF) front-end capable of receiving a GPS satellite signal. The wireless processing section of the wireless device receives an external clock and determines the offset between the clock in the wireless processing section and that of the external clock. The GPS subsystem then receives the offset information from the wireless processing section, information related to the nominal frequency of the wireless processing section clock and the wireless processing section clock. Using this information and the GPS clock in the GPS subsystem, the GPS subsystem determines an acquiring signal, which is related to a frequency offset between the GPS clock and the network clock.
