  • Patent number: 5579367
Abstract: A satellite network receiver connected to receive video and audio programs and commands from orbiting satellites through a steerable dish antenna. Commands are alternatively received by the satellite receiver via pager radio service or phone wire from a network controller that uplinked the satellite programming. All user controls are eliminated from the satellite receiver and the network controller uses its command capability to steer the users antenna and to analyze and initiate diagnostics performed on various parts of the satellite receiver.

  • Patent number: 5578779
Abstract: A tone generator clears all registers in a twenty-nine stage device so that the previous results are not used in the calculations for a next tone sample. A series approximation of a desired complex sound waveform is achieved by calculating the contributions of twenty-nine time steps back in time. Twenty-nine different address phases are respectively applied to twenty-nine stacked arithmetic units. Each arithmetic unit comprises a first adder that inputs the output of a previous arithmetic unit and the input of the previous arithmetic unit. A second adder inputs the result from the first adder and one of the twenty-nine address phases. The second adder then reads a waveform generator connected to a multiplier that is controlled by a common multiplication factor "B". The output of the twenty-ninth unit produces the desired tone without any of the stacked units feeding back any signals.

  • Patent number: 5535069
Abstract: A diskette comprising a jacket, a liner material disposed within said jacket, a flat circular media having a magnetic coating on both sides disposed within said liner material, a hub attached at the center of said media, a plurality of servo grooves on at least one of said sides of said media that have stitched patterns that will alternate on-and-off at twenty kilohertz in the presence of a constant, unmodulated light source. The diskette is magnetically formatted with reference and data tracks recorded in such a way that extremely accurate position determinations can be made by looking at the analog amplitude of the detected tracks and comparing them at different head positions.

  • Patent number: 5519620
Abstract: A system embodiment of the present invention comprises a fixed and a roving pair of four-observable GPS receivers and a communication link between them for double differencing code and carrier measurements. Carrier phase integer ambiguities are resolved efficiently by searching the simultaneous narrow-lane intersections of both the L1 and L2 wave fronts propagated by the GPS satellites being tracked. External constraint information, such as elevation, is additionally used to speed up integer ambiguity resolution. Data between the reference station and the rover is communicated in compressed form at a regular interval, e.g., once a second at each epoch, and demi-measurements of carrier phase are obtained more frequently, e.g., ten times a second, and used to propagate solutions between epochs.

  • Patent number: 5512905
Abstract: A surveyor range pole, for example, equipped with a GPS receiver and antenna mounted at the top end, a battery mounted at the bottom end to better balance the pole, a tilt sensor and a direction sensor. The tilt sensor and direction sensor provide information about the vector that lies between the top and the bottom points of the range pole. The GPS receiver computes the position of the top end of the range pole from GPS satellite signals received by the GPS at the top end, and then computes the position of the bottom end of the range pole with the vector information. A variable length, telescoping range pole includes a linear transducer for automatically measuring the overall length of the range pole and contributing that length information to the vector calculation.

  • Patent number: 5507327
Abstract: A hollow-walled cylindrical stainless steel vacuum-insulated funnel with a flat bottom through which a float valve and screen check and filter the gravity flow of liquid nitrogen out through a drain pipe in the bottom. The bottom of the funnel has a small lip raised all around the small pipe outlet to prevent any water condensation inside the funnel from dripping into the EDX dewar. The pipe outlet pierces a dewar stopper and can be permanently left in place on top of a dewar. The hollow-walls of the funnel are packed with foil-backed film in laminations to reduce radiation heat transfer between the funnel's inside and outside walls. A vacuum is drawn inside the hollow walls to minimize heat conduction.
