  • Patent number: 4173171
Abstract: At the beginning of a working stroke of a compressed air loaded working piston disposed reciprocally in a pneumatic operated ramming tool said piston is initially set in motion under the action of minor amounts of compressed air until its top becomes immersed into stored compressed air and the working piston is then exposed to the full force of said stored compressed air to perform its working stroke. This working process permits to use a substantially simpler ramming apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4171676
Abstract: A low pressure, tread wear and speed indicator for a tire includes at least one abutment member secured to the exterior surface of one of the sidewalls of the tire adjacent to the tread, which projects laterally outward from the sidewall. The abutment member is positioned at a distance radially inwardly from the tread such that, upon tire deflation or excessive tread wear or a combination thereof, the abutment will strike the road surface during vehicle operation, to produce a vibrational and/or audible signal perceivable by the driver, indicating an unsafe tire condition. The indicator may also include a weighted insert embedded within the abutment member which, upon operation of the vehicle at an excessive or illegal rate of speed, will produce an eccentric tire condition which, in turn, causes a vibrational signal. A tire deflation indicator which includes a segmented radially-extending rib formed on the interior surface of the tire sidewall is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4171483
Abstract: A device for X-ray diagnosis, includes an X-ray tube, an image layer carrier, and a compression device for compressing a portion of the patient to be examined fixed to a side of the image layer carrier directed toward the tube. The compression device has two flat, superimposed, interconnected layers of low X-ray absorption material extending over the entire illuminable surface of the image layer carrier, so that the borders of the layers are not X-rayed. One of the layers is directed toward the tube and is fabricated from an elastically extensible material and the layers define therebetween an inflatable central circular section and a narrow tube-like lead section extending from an edge of the two layers to the central circular section. The compression device permits the patient to be X-rayed in the area of the inflatable circular section and in the area laterally adjacent to the inflatable circular section without producing edge shadows.

  • Patent number: 4166492
Abstract: A method of producing an annular bead core assembly for a pneumatic tire from a plurality of wires of substantially rectangular cross-section, wherein the wires are formed into a plurality of plies. The wires of each wire ply then are arcuately deformed in a direction substantially perpendicular to the desired plane of the annular assembly when made but in a direction which will be towards the inner side of the tire when completed, each arcuate deformation yielding an arc having a constant radius. The arcuately deformed wire plies thereafter are wound on a tapered support to form the assembly.
