  • Patent number: 4635923
Abstract: A sheet-feeding device for feeding individual sheets to the platen of an office machine is supported on top of the office machine by means of a contact section or sections engaging the shaft of the platen. The lower extremity of the contact section is laterally displaced from the plane of the sidewall of the sheet-feeding device to facilitate the adaptation of the sheet-feeding device to different widths of office machines.

  • Patent number: 4618152
Abstract: An elongated metallic strip is provided which has oppositely disposed convolutions constituted by sinuosities, corrugations, nodes, or the like, and said convolutions are constituted by nadir and zenith convolutions. Provided on the nadir and zenith convolutions are cooperative hinge and locating means assisting in the juxtaposition of said nadir and zenith convolutions to one another, said integral hinge means being provided thereon to facilitate the disposition of such strip into a helical configuration. A seal is provided which is created by helically winding the strip to locate edges thereof in a cylindrical sealing configuration by juxtaposing the convolutions of the strip in operative relationship with one another and welding said convolutions to one another.

  • Patent number: 4608845
Abstract: An apparatus for forming honeycomb-type core strip includes a source of metallic ribbon, form gears for forming a desired configuration in the ribbon and take-up means for taking up the core strip as it is issued from the form gears. Interposed between the source and take-up means is lubricating means for insuring adequate lubrication of the metallic ribbon as it enters the bite of the form gears. The form gears are characterized by a configuration which enables them to impart hinge means to the ribbon which facilitates the utilization of the ribbon in unitary metallic seal constructions wherein a continuous length of the ribbon is bent into helical form.

  • Patent number: 4587963
Abstract: To hold mating bone parts or sections together during osteosynthesis, the ends of a piece of wire for holding the bone parts together are passed through narrow boreholes of one or more plates and are deformed at that section to retain them in the boreholes. The wire is subjected by means of tightening means to a desired tractive force and is deformed by means of deformation means. The tightening means and the deformation means cooperate to place the wire under traction and deform the same where it issues from the boreholes in the plate or plates. The deformation means operate like pliers in which the tightening means is located. The tightening means incorporates a shaft which can be driven with an adjustable torque and, by means of a freewheeling coupling, the shaft is mounted in a manner so that it can be rotated only in one direction.

  • Patent number: 4574415
Abstract: A convertible dusting and cleaning brush for venetian blinds and the like having a brush frame with a handle thereupon, said frame mounting a plurality of juxtaposed, finger-like, bristle dusting brushes extending longitudinally therefrom. Demountably associated with each of said brushes is a cleaning adapter whose outer diameter is substanially equal to the outer diameter of the dusting brushes and which incorporates an elongated bore adapted to receive the filaments of the elongated brush when the cleaning adapter is installed thereupon. As the installation takes place, the filaments of the brush compressed to impart a frictional grip by the filaments upon the wall of the bore of the cleaning adapter, thus preventing the inadvertent dislocation of the cleaning adapter from operative relationship with the associated brush. Positive detent means is also provided on the frame to hold the adapter on the brush.

  • Patent number: 4552089
Abstract: A road warning system for indicating the presence of emergency or other conditions along a roadway or other surface includes an elongated carrier and a plurality of erectable-retractable warning means which are retracted when the carrier is disposed in a storage mode and erected when the carrier is translated from the storage mode into the utilization mode in which the warning means are erected to indicate the existence of a roadway anomaly. The carrier may consist of a wide variety of different structures, including linkages, continuous lengths of flexible-deformable material and the like. It is also contemplated that the carrier will incorporate various conductors, including electrical and fluid conductors, so that the warning means may be illuminated either electrically or by means of illuminating gases.

  • Patent number: 4551604
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for forming a circular, honeycomb-type engine seal from pre-formed core strip having male and female nodes. The apparatus includes a source of strip and means for forming the strip into a circular seal configuration wherein the male and female nodes of the strip are automatically juxtaposed to each other for weldment as relative movement between the forming means and the source occurs to withdraw additional strip from the core strip source. As the relative movement continues, the juxtaposed male and female nodes are exposed to welding head means of the apparatus which welds the male and female nodes to one another. The forming means includes means for causing said relative movement constituted by drive means which is adjustable to permit forming means of different sizes to be utilized. The movement of the forming means permits successive layers or laminae of the strip to be welded to each other in circular form until a seal of the desired dimension is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4522349
Abstract: A fishing reel is provided with a housing having a central opening therein. An annular spool is rotatably mounted on roller bearings around the outside and a fishing line is wound around the spool. The spool is rotated by a gear wheel engaging teeth around the inside of the spool to pay out or bring in the fishing line. The gear wheel is driven by a crank handle. Brake pads are urgeable manually or with the aid of levers, against the side wall of the spool to reduce or stop the rotation of the spool.
