  • Patent number: 6782300
Abstract: A method of extracting a clock from a biphase encoded bit stream includes the step of detecting a stream of samples each having a sample size measured between consecutive bit phase transitions. A sample length is determined for each sample, the sample length approximating a number of least common multiples in the corresponding sample size. A preamble is detected from the sample lengths of a sequence of the samples and decoded to determine an expected logic level of the clock following a transition at an expected clock edge. The expected level of the clock is gated with the biphase encoded data to generate a control signal in advance of the opening of the time window. The control signal is then gated with the biphase encoded data to extract the clock edge after the time window has opened.

  • Patent number: 6774684
Abstract: Circuitry for ramping a voltage across a load 506 includes a charging circuit 500 for charging a capacitor 501 to generate a ramp-up wave form. Circuitry 511 selectively decouples a first driver 510 from load 506 during a ramping up mode and couples first driver 510 to load 506 during a normal operating mode. Ramp up driver 507a is selectively coupled to the load 506 during the ramp-up mode for ramping up the voltage across load 506 in response to the ramp-up wave form generated by charging circuitry 500. A discharge circuit 503d, 514a,b discharges capacitor 501 to generate a power-down wave form. Circuitry 511 selectively decouples a first driver 501 from output load 506 during the ramping down of the voltage across output load 506. A ramp-down driver 507b selectively ramps-down the voltage across output load 506 in response to the ramp-down wave form generated by discharge circuitry 503d, 514a,b.

  • Patent number: 6765987
Abstract: An improved efficiency x-ray source comprised of a fluorescent x-ray tube and resonant high voltage power supply. The fluorescent x-ray tube is an arc discharge tube filled with a low-pressure vapor, xenon for example, that is excited by high-frequency, high-voltage pulses to produce x-rays. The power supply passes arcs through the tube that produce significantly more radiation per unit energy than equivalent conventional vacuum x-ray tubes. The power supply may be a high frequency resonant AC supply or it may be rectified to give resonant DC. The fluorescent tube is driven in cold cathode mode, avoiding a fragile filament. The arc gap may also be large or very small in order to serve as a broad beam source or point source.

  • Patent number: 6751798
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing distributed object calls uses proxies and memory allocation and deallocation. Specifically, an object reference to an object is obtained. The object reference is used to create a proxy handle data structure that will represent the object. The proxy handle is passed to a client application stub function which calls the object. The stub function is also passed input and output parameters along with exception information. An object request broker finds an appropriate implementation in a server application. The server application allocates memory for implementing the call. The object is implemented and the memory allocated by the server application is deallocated. The server application responds to the client, whereupon the client makes another object call using the same proxy handle or destroys the proxy handle. Multiple initialization of object calls is avoided because the object call can be initialized just once for a particular object.

  • Patent number: 6730176
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method, system, and apparatus for applying megasonic energy to the surface of a workpiece for the removal of contaminants. A nozzle dispenses a stream of deionized water or other cleaning fluid at a radial position on the surface. A stepping motor moves the arm over the surface, in a step-wise manner, allowing megasonic energy to be applied in a uniform manner. The workpiece is rotated at low speeds to provide a more uniform application. Chemical solutions may optionally be added to dissolve contaminants or change the Zeta potential of the contaminants to make particles easier to detach and suspend. A high-RPM dry spin cycle further removes cleaning fluid and suspended contaminants, preventing them from reattaching. The present invention is compatible with numerous types of workpieces including 12″ semiconductor wafers.

  • Patent number: 6695883
Abstract: A femoral neck fixation prosthesis and method of using same which reduces bone loss and the avoids the other shortcomings of the prior art by allowing the fixation of a stable femoral head replacement while reducing the amount of the femur which must be reamed for the insertion of the prosthesis. The preferred embodiment provides that the femoral head is attached to a fixation prosthesis which extends coaxially through the canal of the femoral neck, into the femur, and is then attached to the opposite lateral wall of the femur. In this manner, the prosthesis serves to imitate the original structure of the femoral neck. No other support members, either crosspins or arms extending into the length of the femur, are required.

  • Patent number: 6568842
Abstract: A continuous preparation of calcium hydroxide slurry can be made on a mobile apparatus that uses an eductor to initially combine metered flows of calcium oxide and water. The calcium hydroxide slurry is retained in a deaerating sump and then pumped into a serpentine centrifugal mixer so that the reaction of the calcium oxide and the water is safely complete. Because the apparatus allows the calcium hydroxide slurry to be recirculated into the deaerating sump, the slaking process can continue even when it is necessary to pause the discharge of slurry to change transport tankers.
