  • Patent number: 5904065
Abstract: A fully enclosed cam-actuated drive device for providing both lift and translational movements, incorporating protection against damage in either horizontal or vertical overload situations, achieved by providing optional spring protection along the vertical and/or horizontal axes, a roller gear cam for lift motion, a barrel cam for translational motion, translation guide rods, a translational carriage assembly slidably received on the translation guide rods, an input drive shaft, and vertical lift rods. The device may be configured as a walking beam device to impart a U-shaped output motion, or alternatively a closed box-shaped motion, as desired. A split carriage assembly reduces backlash of the device and a sliding dust cover prevents foreign objects from entering the drivers cam-actuated internal operating structure.

  • Patent number: 5896899
Abstract: When carrying out a method for sterile bottling of beverages, which comprises the steps of cleaning the bottles first in a cleaning station by means of lye, transporting them then to a separate filling station, filling them in said filling station with the previously sterilized beverage, and closing them finally in a closing station, the sterilization of the interior of the bottles by introducing steam and/or hot water is carried out several times successively in spatially separated stations. This fractional sterilization of the bottles achieves a very high germ destruction rate, the amount of energy consumed being low and the bottles being treated carefully. In addition, measures against a reinfection of the bottles in the area of transport between the stations can be dispensed with so that a good accessibility of the transport area is guaranteed.

  • Patent number: 5896900
Abstract: In a method for filling a liquid volume into receptacles wherein liquid is admitted into a volumetric metering chamber by opening an inlet valve, the inlet valve is closed when an upper switching level is reached, the liquid is discharged from the metering chamber into a receptacle by opening the outlet valve, and the outlet valve is closed when a lower switching level is reached, the upper filling level actually obtained after closing of the inlet valve is measured, as well as the lower filling level actually obtained after closing of the outlet valve. With the values obtained thereby, the upper and lower switching levels are corrected, whereby the desired liquid volume can exactly be observed independently of pressure and flow conditions.

  • Patent number: 5893700
Abstract: Transport star for containers with a basic body which can rotate, on whose circumference several gripper arms, in the form of double levers, are attached in bearings, which can be locked by selflocking in the closed position by means of spreader bodies which are arranged in the basic body so they can rotate. Each gripper arm consists of two parts which are connected to each other by articulation, between which a spring element is inserted, which can be elastically deformed in the closed position. As a result the duration of use of the gripper arms is increased and the range of diameters for the containers to be processed is considerably increased.

  • Patent number: 5885401
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for removing shrinking casings or encircling labels from containers, particularly bottles, glasses, cans, or the like, in which, first of all, a separating line which proceeds essentially transversely to the direction of circumference is produced and the shrinking casing or the encircling label is then removed by means of a fluid stream which is directed against the container. During the removal of an encircling label or of a shrinking casing which has been cut through, the containers are preferably held, in a bottom-free manner, near the area of the head, and at least one fluid stream is directed, in an angular manner, from above, essentially axially to the wall of the container, against the container, and preferably above the upper edge of the shrinking casing or of the encircling label.

  • Patent number: 5868658
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for producing beverage containers. For making beverage containers having a piercable through-hole for a straw in their front sheeting, which is sealed on the inside of the front sheeting by means of a closure strip, a piercing hole is formed in a front side sheeting web conveyed in conveying direction, whereafter a closure sheeting web is fed in conveying direction to the front side sheeting web and is then sealed around the piercing hole to the inside of the front side sheeting web. A rear side sheeting web is supplied in conveying direction such that the inside of the front side sheeting web welded to the closure sheeting web moving along with the latter faces the inside of the front side sheeting web. Thereafter, the front side sheeting web and the rear side sheeting web are welded together at least in part along the lateral edges of the beverage container to be produced, with the closure sheeting web being included therein.
