Abstract: An ostomy appliance comprises two pouches, one being located within and extractable from the other. The inner pouch has a stoma-receiving orifice in its bodyside wall and an annular adhesive flange externally secured to that bodyside wall about the orifice. The outer pouch has a substantially larger opening in its bodyside wall and a second annular adhesive flange is secured to that wall and surrounds the first adhesive flange of the inner pouch. The two flanges are spaced from each other and the only connection between the two pouches occurs along their uppermost margins. The inner pouch is provided with a tear line along its upper margin, and the outer pouch has an access flap in its obverse wall which may be torn downwardly for gaining access to and removing the inner pouch from the outer pouch.

Abstract: In a device used for filling liquids in portions into bottles, cans or similar receptacles and having a plurality of volumetric dosing chambers, which are arranged on a rotor and which are connected to a storage reservoir for the liquid via a controllable inlet valve and to a filler neck via a controllable outlet valve, at least two sensors responding to different filling levels are arranged in each dosing chamber, the sensor arranged on a higher level closing the inlet valve when the filling level has risen to a specific height, and the sensor arranged on a lower level closing the outlet valve when the filling level has dropped to a specific height. The volume of one portion of the liquid to be canned or bottled is thus defined in a simple manner by the vertical distance between the two sensors, or rather the measuring points of said sensors.

Abstract: A shuttlecock comprises a nose and a frusto-conical skirt fixed thereto. The skirt is formed of an inner layer and an outer layer of plastics sheet material generally lying against one another. The outer layer is formed with a plurality of spaced elongate channels which are open towards the inner layer and the inner layer is formed with a plurality of spaced elongate channels corresponding to and aligned with those of the outer layer and opening towards the outer layer such that the channels of the inner and outer layers of the skirt cooperate to form hollow stiffening columns. Elongate stiffening members are located within the hollow stiffening columns and are bonded to both layers of the skirt.

Abstract: A plastic stackable riser for providing a grade level access for underground components such as septic tanks, distribution boxes, and drop boxes, including a cylindrical side wall having a top free edge and a bottom edge. The top free edge defines a first end opening and the second bottom edge is connected to a generally inverted U-shaped connecting member which defines a channel shaped to receive the first free edge portion of an adjacent stackable riser. In use, a plurality of stackable risers are interlocked together so that the side walls all extend along common vertical axes to the underground component and provide a gas-tight, liquid-tight column above the underground component.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an electric motor comprising an attached additional element, in particular an incremental shaft encoder, and a mounting base plate which has seated thereon the additional element and is connected to the electric motor such that its angular position is adjustable during assembly. The adjustability of the angular position is to be improved, whereby mounting is simplified. To this end, a profile toothing is provided on the electric motor and a counter-profile toothing on the mounting base plate, the toothings engaging each other in a substantially accurately fitting manner, thereby permitting a mounting of the base plate in different angular positions in angular steps which are predetermined by the tooth pitch.

Abstract: The present invention refers to an electric motor including a tubular housing member and at least one cover secured thereto, said cover having an insertion area, which is inserted in the housing member in an essentially tight-fitting manner and which is connected to said housing member by means of at least one deformed portion of an end face area of said housing member. This kind of connection between the cover and the housing member is to be improved. This improvement is achieved by the features that the cover abuts on an end face of the housing member via a flange and that it has at least one opening in the transition region of the insertion area and the flange, said opening being accessible from outside via an access opening and forming an undercut portion at the insertion area, a respective portion of the end face area of the housing member being deformed into engagement with said undercut portion by moving the ram into said access opening, whereby the cover is locked in position on said housing member.

Abstract: A closure member for crown cork applicators, which comprises a closure cone and an ejector engaging the longitudinal bore of said closure cone, is provided with an observation opening connecting the bore to the outside thereof, said observation opening having an aperture angle of at least 180.degree. and being dimensioned such that the ejector is located completely within said observation opening. The large observation opening defined in this way permits the best possible access to the particularly critical areas of the closure member for the purpose of examination, cleaning, disinfection or the like.

Abstract: An adhesive wafer for an ostomy pouch, and the combination of such a wafer and pouch, in which the adhesive layer of the wafer is composed of a hydrocolloid-containing skin barrier material and is contoured to provide a relatively thick body portion surrounded by a relatively thin peripheral portion, are disclosed. The wafer has a stoma-receiving opening, and the adhesive layer is of developed shape so that most, if not all, of the relatively thick body portion is located immediately below and to the sides of the stoma-receiving opening. The relatively thin peripheral portion of the adhesive layer is preferably embossed to provide a pattern of discrete, non-connecting depressions separated and isolated from each other by flat-top ridges dimensioned and arranged so that a skin surface engaged by said embossed surface primarily contacts only such ridges.

Abstract: A method of document security comprising providing a substrate having a spot of thermochromic material printed thereon capable of undergoing a reversible color change upon exposure to heat, associating alpha instructional information with the spot, reproducing the alpha information on a second substrate, and subjecting the second substrate to heat to determine whether the document is original or authentic.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a permanent espresso filter insert for insertion into an espresso machine, the insert comprising a substantially flat filter disc which is penetrated by a plurality of filter openings substantially in the flow direction of the medium to be filtered, with a perforated disc being designed and arranged downstream of the filter disc in flow direction in such a manner that the medium to be filtered is swirled and deflected to an increased extent. With the permanent espresso filter insert of the invention, it is possible to improve the formation of the head or cream also in espresso machines having low working pressures.

Abstract: A door assembly having articulated segments includes at least one support assembly for bracing the door assembly against lateral forces. This support assembly includes guide members secured to the door segments and articulated locking members disposed in sliding relation with the guide members. The locking members move between a first predetermined position in which they allow the door segments to pivot with one another and a second position in which they bridge the door segments and prevent them from pivoting with one another.

Abstract: An adhesive wafer, which is especially suitable for use as a faceplate for an ostomy appliance but may also be used as a wound dressing, has an adhesive layer of hydrocolloid-containing skin barrier material and a flexible backing layer extending over one surface of the adhesive layer. The opposite skin-contacting surface of the adhesive layer is embossed to provide a pattern of discrete, non-connecting depressions separated and isolated from each other by flat-topped ridges dimensioned and arranged so that a skin surface engaged by said embossed surface primarily contacts only such ridges.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process, as well as a device which is suited for the same, for the processing of containers, particularly of bottles or the like, into which a fluid is injected for the expulsion of the air from the head room of the bottles after the filling, before the aperture of the container is closed, in a sealing manner, by means of a closure cap. After the injecting of the fluid, a closure cap is first of all moved forward to the opening of the container and held, for a certain period of time, in a position above the opening, in such a manner that the open aperture is covered by the closure cap, but that gas can exit from the container between the opening and the closure cap. After that, the closure cap is attached to the container in a sealing manner.

Abstract: A water filter including a filter unit utilizing bag filters and including a hydraulic jack for displacing the bag filters between a lower operative position and an elevated position where the bags are readily accessible the jack preferably in the form of a pair of relatively extensible tubular telescopic members in a flow path between a pump delivery connection and the inlet to the filter bags with one of the members providing a flow communication from the member to the filter outlet. The filter also includes inlet means to the filter bag directing flow to wash the interior surface of the bags.

Abstract: A controller for detecting abnormal operating conditions of a continuous motion machine such as a packaging machine. The acceleration and velocity of motors for the various axes of the machine are examined by the controller and rapid deceleration or a more gradual deceleration to a lower velocity relative to a machine velocity are employed for stopping the machine when overloads in the form of jams or mechanical faults occur in moving parts of the machine. By using this system, machine overloads can be detected much earlier than by using conventional techniques, and as a result, damage resulting from overloads and nuisance tripping can be eliminated or greatly reduced.

Abstract: An orthosis for the upper body is provided for controlling the shoulder and the arm. The orthosis employs a connection between the waist band and the upper part of the orthosis, specifically a lateral upright, which has two linked joints. Preferably, the lower joint is attached centrally to the waist band and is a spherical zone joint which accommodates bending at the waist and variation in the shape of the torso. The second joint is a pivot joint which accommodates rotation about an axis parallel to the long axis of the lateral upright upon the lower end of which, preferably, it is mounted.

Abstract: A drywall corner bead which includes a plurality of integral preformed barbs provided at intervals along the length of the corner bead for securing the corner bead to a drywall corner. The corner bead includes first and second longitudinally-extending flanges which are interconnected by a longitudinally-extending rounded nose, and the first and second flange are disposed at an angle of less than 90.degree. with respect to each other. The barbs project inwardly from the flanges in a generally perpendicular direction and have a length of less than about 3/32 of an inch. When the corner bead is applied to a drywall corner, the barbs penetrate substantially only the paper layer of the underlying drywall and secure the corner bead to the corner. The drywall corner bead can be rapidly applied to a corner without requiring additional tools or materials, and the corner bead is securely affixed to the corner by the barbs until the corner is finished with joint compound and paint.

Abstract: The present invention refers to a planetary gearing comprising a planet carrier which is adapted to be rotated about an axis of rotation, a sun gear, at least one planetary gear, and a ring gear, at least one axle end projecting beyond one end face of said planet carrier and said planetary gear being rotatably supported on said axle end by means of its axle-reception opening. Especially in small-size planetary gearings making use of sintered components, the service life is to be improved. For this purpose, it is suggested that the planetary gear should be constructed such that it is at least radially displaceable with regard to the axis of rotation of the said planet carrier.
