Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for high-resolution modeling of a well bore in a reservoir. An embodiment of the present disclosure comprises the steps of constructing a first unstructured mesh having a plurality of n-dimensional simplices corresponding to a first modeled system (space), defining a surface bounding a second modeled space, identifying a subset of the plurality of n-dimensional simplices of the first mesh that are intersected by the surface, and modifying the subset of simplices so as to adapt the first mesh such that it comprises a second mesh and a third mesh, wherein the second mesh comprises a set of simplices located entirely interior to the surface and wherein the third mesh comprises another set of simplices located entirely exterior to said surface.

Abstract: A superconducting tape is disclosed, including a substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, the substrate including a plurality of indicia provided on the first surface spaced apart along a length of the substrate; and a superconductor layer overlying the second surface. Also disclosed are components incorporating superconducting tapes, methods for manufacturing same, and methods for using same.

Abstract: A method for marketing a plurality of products or services includes the steps of selecting an arbitrary word and appending the arbitrary word to a first and a second product- or service-related word to create a first and a second site name. Each of the first and the second words is descriptive of a product or a service desired to be offered. The method also includes the step of establishing a first and a second electronic site. Each site is accessible via an electronic communications network, and each site offers at least one product or service describable by one of the first and second words. Next a linkage is created between the respective site names and the electronic sites. This linkage permits a user to access an electronic site with the use of the respective site name.

Abstract: In a specific embodiment of the present invention, a system and method is disclosed having a plurality of modes for providing and/or receiving compressed video data at a frame buffer memory. The modes include providing compressed video data directly from a system host system or through a direct memory access controller; or indirectly from a system host through a demultiplexer portion using one or more registers to receive and handle a transport stream. Another mode of operation includes receiving a transport stream containing compressed video data from a head end system. The compressed video data is subsequently processed through a demultiplexer portion.

Abstract: A device for reducing the effects of leakage current within electronic devices is disclosed. In one form, a high voltage driver includes a high voltage source coupled to at least one high voltage transistor and a leakage offset module coupled to at least a portion of one of the high voltage transistors. The leakage offset module includes a diode connected MOS device operable to generate an offset voltage and an MOS shunting device coupled in a parallel with the diode connected MOS device. During operation, the diode connected MOS device generates an offset voltage based on a sub-threshold leakage associated with using the high voltage source and the MOS shorting device is operable to short the diode connected MOS device when sub-threshold leakage current is relatively low.

Abstract: A method and systems are provided for creating an authentication of secure communications between a software video driver and a video display. A video driver transmitting digital video data deemed high-bandwidth digital content, to a display, can perform authentication to determine if a secure connection has been established with a display. The video driver and the display both generate secret keys which are compared to ensure that the display used is authorized for secure communications. The video driver, communicating with a hardware video controller over a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) bus, can establish an encrypted link with the video driver. The video driver occasionally monitors the display to determine if a secure communications link is upheld. If the connection is determined at any time to be insecure, the video controller can alert the video driver, so that transmission of the video data can be terminated.

Abstract: A system and apparatus for reducing the effects of circuit mismatch in analog-to-digital converters is disclosed. In one form, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) includes a switching network operable to couple an analog input received by a sample and hold module to a folding amplifier operable to process the analog input. The ADC further includes an averaging resistive network coupled to the folding amplifier and operable to provide an output representative of a portion of the analog input received by the folding amplifier to produce a digital representation of the analog input.

Abstract: A method for treating a semiconductor processing component, including: exposing the component to a halogen gas at an elevated temperature, oxidizing the component to form an oxide layer, and removing the oxide layer.

Abstract: A system and a method for transcoding multiple media channels are provided. The system includes a first processor to parse a media data stream having one or more media data channels and a vector processor to decompress, scale, and then compress the parsed media channel. A parsed media data channel, in one embodiment, is accessed using a bit manipulator and packetized into decoder instruction packets and transmitted to the vector processor using a sequencer. The vector processor decompresses the decoder instruction pacets, scales a macroblock generated from the packets, and then compresses the scaled macroblock. As a result, the scaled and compressed output has less data associated with the media channel, allowing for faster and/or more efficient storage or transmission. A reduced sized scale buffer is associated with another disclosed embodiment.

Abstract: A remote media player and methods for managing content. The media player includes storage to store content files. A user interface allows the user to make content selections. The content selections are used with a content database to manage the relationships between the selections and the content files. The player also includes a processor to perform organization tasks on the content files based upon the content selections.

Abstract: A transconductance amplifier (620) includes four transistors each operating in saturation and strong inversion. A first transistor (622) has a first current electrode and a control electrode both receiving an input voltage, and a second current electrode coupled to a power supply voltage terminal. A second transistor (624) has a first current electrode, a control electrode coupled to the first current electrode of the first transistor (622), and a second current electrode coupled to the power supply voltage terminal. A third transistor (626) has a first current electrode for providing a negative differential current, a control electrode for receiving a bias voltage, and a second current electrode coupled to the first current electrode of the first transistor (622).

Abstract: Refractory coatings comprising unstabilized zirconia, silica, and, optionally, zircon and/or mullite are disclosed herein. The unstabilized zirconia, silica, and optional zircon and/or mullite are applied as a slurry onto ceramic substrates such as silicon carbide and fired. The refractory coatings of the present invention maintained good edge definition and color when applied to ceramic substrates and subjected to temperatures over 1100° C.

Abstract: Systems and methods for solving finite element models, wherein the matrix that governs the solution is modified by adjusting the weighting coefficients of the matrix so that the elements which lie on the diagonal of the matrix are non-negative and the elements which are off the diagonal are non-positive. In one embodiment, a system is discretized on a finite element mesh with the contribution of each node to the discretization being weighted based upon the direction of fluid flow across each element. The nodes which are upstream from the other nodes of the respective elements are weighted more heavily to cause the resulting matrix to be substantially diagonal. This matrix is solved using traditional techniques.

Abstract: A system and methods are shown for performing a hardware performance analysis of graphics hardware and an application program. An application program generates a set of function calls. The function calls are translated to a native command set. The native command set is stored within a database. Software simulations and hardware emulations are used to compare the stored native command set data to a hardware architectural description of the graphics hardware. Data collected from the simulations are used to provide a performance model from which the performance of a graphics hardware executing commands for the application program can be determined.

Abstract: Methods for biaxially-texturing a surface-region of an amorphous material are disclosed, comprising depositing an amorphous material onto a substrate, and supplying active oxygen near the substrate during ion beam bombardment of the amorphous material to create an amorphous material having a biaxially textured surface, wherein the ion beam bombardment occurs at a predetermined oblique incident angle. Methods for producing high-temperature coated superconductors are also disclosed, comprising depositing an amorphous buffer film onto a metal alloy substrate, bombarding a surface-region of the amorphous buffer film with an ion beam at an oblique incident angle while supplying active oxygen to the surface-region of the amorphous buffer film in order to create a biaxially textured surface-region thereon, and growing a superconducting film on the biaxially textured surface-region of the amorphous buffer film to create a high-temperature coated superconductor.

Abstract: A method of mapping motion pictures experts group (MPEG) video information for improved efficiency is presented, wherein image information is stored in blocks of memory referred to as tiles. Tiles are mapped in memory so that adjacent tiles only correspond to different banks of memory. A method and system is provided for organizing and routing multiple memory requests from a plurality of clients to multiple memories. Requests from a plurality of clients, including a plurality of clients of the same type, such as multiple MPEG decoders, are directed to different memory controllers by a router. The memory controllers order the client requests by requests among similar client types. The memory controllers also order the client requests by different client types. The ordered requests are then delivered to memory. Returned data is sent back to the clients.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for reducing power consumption within a video processing portion of a system based on display content. Display content is monitored to determine whether the display content is changing. New display content is compared to old display content to determine if the display content is changing. If the display content has not changed, a frame rate used to output display data is reduced. A color depth associated with the display data is also reduced. Power consumption can be reduced when it is determined that display content is not changing.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for supporting an external display on a portable device. A system on a chip (SOC) of the portable device provides a first set of graphics data to a graphics controller. The embedded graphics controller renders the first set of graphics data for output using an LCD screen integrated with the portable device. The SOC renders a second set of graphics data and provides rendered graphics data to an external display interface. The external display interface formats the rendered graphics data for output on an external, remote display.

Abstract: A presence of a facsimile transmission tone generated by a calling party within a call is sensed for within a public telephone network before the call has been routed to a called party. If the facsimile transmission tone is present in the call, the telephone network denies completion of the call to the telephone line of the called party. If the call is absent the facsimile transmission tone, a telephone network switch is instructed to complete the call to the telephone line of the called party.
