Abstract: A removable storage device with a processor and a non-volatile memory, and a method for using a removable storage device, are provided to emulate the computer system. The storage device stores in the non-volatile memory data it obtained from a first computer system, the data containing computer applications. When the storage device is removably connected to a second computer system and the second computer system is associated with a computer peripheral device, the processor in the storage device is instructed to emulate the original process environment of the first computer system.

Abstract: A tangible computer readable medium includes instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to communicate with a multicast alert server to receive a multicast emergency alert message via a multicast-enabled network of an Internet Protocol television system. The multicast emergency alert message includes data related to a location code and data related to a set-top box action. The computer program further includes instructions to execute the set-top box action when the location code matches location information stored at a set-top box device.

Abstract: Network services systems and methods are provided. A particular system includes an information store including connection information to initiate connections to content sources. The connection information includes an address and a connection rule associated with a video content source. The system includes an access engine to receive a request for an information stream output by the video content source from a user device. The system also includes a services engine to retrieve the connection rule from the information store and to initiate establishment of at least a portion of a point to point protocol communication link between the user device and the video content source in accordance with the connection rule. The system includes a metrics engine to track a metric associated with the point to point protocol communication link and to generate a billing record at least partially based upon the metric.

Abstract: A particular method of distributing content includes receiving data related to content to be distributed. The method also includes automatically estimating a financial return associated with an audio version of the content based at least partially on a particular text-to-speech conversion process used to generate the audio version. The method further includes selecting one of a plurality of available text-to-speech conversion processes based on the estimated financial return.

Abstract: Enhanced caller ID display functionality is linked to Photo or image and/or address book or other database information elements associated with the caller by the call recipient to provide a richer Caller ID Display experience. The enhanced ID caller information is displayed on the call recipient's television via, for example, a television set-top box. Advantageously, the call recipient selects the information to associate with the caller. This is advantageous because it is the recipient that is in the best position to know which information, including which image or images, is most useful to the recipient in relation to the caller.

Abstract: A computer system is disclosed that includes a repository, a discovery section, a determining section, and a data creating section. The repository holds, for each configuration item, data indicating at least one predetermined attribute of the configuration item and a relationship with another configuration item. The discovery section detects information on configuration items. The determining section determines association of a first configuration item with a second configuration item and association of the first configuration item with a third configuration item. The data creating section creates common data including an attribute common to attributes of the first configuration item associated with the second configuration item and attributes of the first configuration item associated with the third configuration item and plural derived data items, each including an attribute that is not common thereto. The common data and the plural derived data items are stored in the repository.

Abstract: The application discloses a system and a method of selecting a profile of a digital subscriber line. In a particular embodiment, the method includes setting a threshold for voice quality and determining a number of acceptable code violations that can occur without compromising the voice quality of the digital subscriber line. When the actual number of code violations exceeds the determined number of code violations an alternate profile is selected for the DSL line.

The method includes receiving a second address advertisement message that indicates that a second end-user device is assigned a second static IP address and is connected to the network edge device. The method includes sending an aggregate advertisement message including an aggregate IP address to one or more remote devices of a second network. The aggregate advertisement message indicates to route first incoming traffic directed to the first static IP address to the address management device via the aggregate IP address and to route second incoming traffic directed to the second static IP address to the address management device via the aggregate IP address.

A set of executable instructions manipulate a processor to display an electronic programming guide (EPG) interface. The EPG interface includes a user input interface to receive user information indicating a preferred arrangement of a plurality of multimedia channels ordered in a channel numbering set. The set of executable instructions further manipulate the processor to provide, in response to user input indicating a selection of a channel number by a user, one of the plurality of multimedia channels for display based on the channel numbering set.

Abstract: A method of monitoring a network is disclosed and includes receiving an enrollment message at a heartbeat manager from a heartbeat agent associated with a first application stored at a first network entity. The method also includes automatically associating a heartbeat interval with the first application based at least partially on the enrollment message. In another embodiment, a system of monitoring a network is disclosed and includes a network entity having processing logic and memory accessible to the processing logic. The memory stores an application including a heartbeat agent portion having instructions executable by the processing logic to enroll with a heartbeat management server communicating with the network entity and including a heartbeat monitor including instructions to subscribe to notifications indicating an operational status of an application residing at a second network entity.

Abstract: A system and method for filtering audio content are provided. An audio data filtering system may include an input interface to receive audio data. The system may also include an analysis module to compare a textual representation of the audio data to data identifying prohibited audio content. A terminal includes a memory configured to store a private content identifier associated with private content. The private content identifier includes a mobile station integrated services digital network number of a smart card associated with a user that is authorized to access the private content. A particular smart card includes a smart card identifier associated with the particular smart card. The terminal also includes a security function configured to perform a comparison of the private content identifier to the smart card identifier and to deny access to the private content when a result of the comparison is negative.

Abstract: A method of managing data transmission is provided and includes measuring a first number of payload bits communicated over a bearer during a first time period. The first number of measured payload bits is divided by a length of the first time period to yield a short term average bit rate for the first time period. Also, a bit rate margin is added to the short term average bit rate for to yield a total bearer bit rate for the first time period. Further, a bearer bit rate can be selectively provisioned based on the total bearer bit rate for the first time period. The bearer bit rate can be provisioned based on whether the bearer is a fixed bearer or an adaptive bearer.

Abstract: A system of contextual advertising is disclosed. The system includes a message receiving module to receive a message from a sender and determine a recipient of the message. The system further includes an advertisement selection module to select an advertisement. The system further includes a message delivery module to send the message to the recipient and an advertisement delivery module to send the advertisement to the sender.

Abstract: Systems and methods to select media content are provided. A particular method includes generating a media playlist based on user preference data and generating a user interface display. The user preference data indicates proportions of each of a plurality of categories of media content to be present in the media playlist. The user interface display presents the user preference data using adjustable bars. Each bar is associated with one of the categories of media content, and a dimension of each bar is associated with the proportion of the respective category of media content included in the media playlist. The method includes receiving user input adjusting the dimension of a first bar associated with a first category of the plurality of categories of media content. The method includes adjusting the proportion of the first category of media content included in the media playlist based on the user input.

Abstract: A method of managing a plurality of files according to their respective instances of a property of the files, a data processing device that uses the method, and a computer readable storage medium bearing code for implementing the method. The files of at least one of the instances are managed according to a management protocol respective to that/those instance(s). Preferably, all the other files are managed according to a common default management protocol. Different protocols trade off performance vs. ruggedness, trade off average performance vs. latency, or include different defragmentation policies.
