  • Patent number: 4672205
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for determining the anomaly portion the output signal of a zero-seeking earth-horizon sensor for a geostationary satellite. The horizon sensor comprises a chopper disk operated with constant frequency, which chopper disk pictures the image of oppositely located earth horizons on a common infrared detector. When the thermal radiation of the two earth horizons is different the anomaly portion contained in the detector output signal can be determined in that the off-course signals are measured for different amplitudes of the chopper disk. Since the anomaly-dependent portion in the detector output signal depends on this chopper amplitude, correcting amounts can be determined for the measured values corresponding to the anomaly portion.

  • Patent number: 4669143
Abstract: A support system for a multiple-span bridge constructed of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete includes a primary structure and a secondary structure. The primary structure bridges the spans between intermediate supports or between an abutment and an adjacent intermediate support and includes serially arranged support members elongated in the long direction of the bridge. The width of the support members is a fraction of the full useful width of the bridge. The secondary structure forms the roadway slab and is supported on the primary structure. The secondary structure is made up of serially arranged individual roadway sections extending in the long direction of the bridge. The roadway sections are supported by bearing members resting directly on the support members of the primary structure with the roadway sections being closely spaced in the elongated direction of the bridge as compared to the spans between the intermediate members and the abutments.

  • Patent number: 4669510
Abstract: A weaving machine having a filling breakage detector for generating an error signal upon breakage of a filling thread. This error signal then stops the weaving machine. A pick finding process is then initiated in which the weaving program is set back and then blocked. After removal of any filling thread in the open shed, the weaving machine is operated until the preceding shed is opened enabling the removal of the filling thread. If this is the ruptured filling thread, it is replaced by a new filling thread, the weaving program is unblocked and the weaving machine is operated in its normal sequence. If the filling thread is not ruptured once or if another ruptured filling thread is detected in a preceding shed, the pick finding process is repeated. The cloth takeoff and the warp letoff are also set back correspondingly with the weaving program.

  • Patent number: 4669850
Abstract: An exposure control system for daylight and flash photography. In the flash mode with computer flash light device, the system accommodates for a variation in the otherwise fixed parameter of diaphragm aperture by taking into account the camera-to-subject distance. In one embodiment of the invention, the diaphragm value and the integrated flash light are varied with distance at equal rates to each other, reaching the maximum possible values simultaneously at a distance twice as long as that when the diaphragm is fixed. In another embodiment, these variables are increased one at a time, reaching the maximum value, after which the other is increased to effect an equivalent result.

  • Patent number: 4670750
Abstract: Measured values are converted into electrical impulses for gauge devices and the like in a mechanism including a plurality of photocells arranged on a generally circular arc with a rotatable disc having angularly spaced radially extending slots arranged for movement relative to the photocells to energize and deenergize them in accordance with the angular spacing of the slots in the disc. Electrical circuitry operates to emit electrical impulses responsive to the energization and deenergization of the photocells and the photocells are mounted to enable their positioning relative to the rotational axis of the disc to be adjusted, thereby to enable adjustability relative to the emitting of the electrical pulses.

  • Patent number: 4669586
Abstract: A pipe-type housing for a shock absorber has a bearing eye at one end for a fastening member. The housing is formed of a welded or continuous seamless steel pipe formed at one end by hot or cold extrusion to provide a flattened portion with two spaced generally parallel surfaces. Each of the surfaces has an opening aligned with the opening in the other. A flange extends around each opening and projects inwardly relative to the flattened section toward the other flange, however, the flanges are spaced apart. In the deformation of the pipe a transition wall is formed between the flattened part and the remaining part with the normal pipe cross-section. A base is inserted into the normal pipe cross-section abutting the transition wall. The base is sealed with the inner circumferential surface of the pipe by a seal ring fitted into a circumferentially extending groove in the base.

  • Patent number: 4670799
Abstract: The disclosed erasing apparatus is capable of erasing a signal recorded on a magnetic recording medium from individual recording tracks one by one over an erasing width wider than the width of each recording track. A magnetic head receives an erasing signal from a generating circuit that generates an erasing signal including a sustained oscillation of low frequency outside of the frequency band of a recorded or reproduced signal and a subsequent attenuating oscillation of a frequency higher than the frequency of the sustained oscillation.

  • Patent number: 4669935
Abstract: An expansion dowel assembly is made up of an axially elongated generally cylindrically shaped dowel body and at least one wedge-shaped expansion member formed monolithically with the dowel body. The dowel body has a first or leading end which is inserted first into a borehole within which the dowel body is to be anchored and an opposite second end. A severable web connects the expansion member to the first end of the dowel body. Before insertion into a borehole, the expansion member projects outwardly from the exterior surface of the dowel body. When the expansion dowel assembly is inserted into a borehole, the web is broken and the expansion member, now separated from the dowel body, is displaced away from the first end within a wedge-shaped recess in the exterior surface of the dowel body.

  • Patent number: 4669593
Abstract: The clutch disc comprises for torsional vibration damping a spring system (35) dimensioned for operation under load and a spring system (51, 53) dimensioned for operation in idling. An idle motion device (5, 7) ensures that in the case of relative rotation angles in the idling operation the idling spring system (51, 53) exclusively is effective. In order to avoid jumps in the spring characteristic of the spring systems in the transition from idling operation to under-load operation, the idling spring system (51, 53) comprises at least one spring (53) which is brought into action within the rotation angle range of the idle motion device (5, 7) on approach to the under-load range and increases the spring rating of the idling spring system. Thus clutch and gear noises in this transitional range are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4668061
Abstract: A buckle device for a water-proof camera is disclosed, including a buckle arm pivotally mounted at its one end to the camera housing, and a buckle body whose one end is pivotally mounted on the free end of the arm and whose opposite end has a bent-over lug from a pin on the back lid of the camera. The buckle arm has a spring-biased buckle lock member arranged to engage in a recess provided in the camera housing. By slidingly moving the buckle lock member against the bias spring, the buckle arm is released from the connection with the recess. In this releasing position, the buckle lock member then functions as a handle for taking the lug from engagement with the back lid of the camera housing. Therefore, the back lid is surely prevented from opening by accident.

  • Patent number: 4668381
Abstract: In separating a mixture of solid material particles including non-magnetic electrically conductive metals into a light fraction and a heavy fraction, where the light fraction includes the non-magnetic particles, the mixture is directed into an upwardly extending airflow passageway from an inlet channel extending laterally from the passageway. The inlet channel is spaced between the inlet and outlet ends of the passageway. An alternating magnetic field is provided adjacent the entrance of the mixture into the airflow passageway for accelerating the particles in the desired direction. The mixture is fed through the inlet channel into the airflow passageway in layer form, preferably as a single layer. A main flow of air passes upwardly through the airflow passageway from the lower inlet end and develops a highly turbulent vortex-like airflow. The airflow, in combination with the magnetic field, effects separation of the light and heavy fractions of the material.
