  • Patent number: 4660927
Abstract: The invention provides a novel silicone-coated, quartz glass-made optical fiber which is very advantageous in the high efficiency of the coating process as well as in the improved workability in the connecting works of the fiber terminals for extension of the communication lines by virtue of the excellent peelability of the coating layer from the surface of the quartz glass fiber even by mere drawing the coated fiber between fingers. The coating layer is formed of a radiation- or UV-cured silicone composition comprising (A-a) an organopolysiloxane having aliphatic unsaturation, e.g. vinyl, and/or (A-b) an organopolysiloxane having mercaptoalkyl groups, e.g. 3-mercaptopropyl groups, and (B) a curing accelerator.

  • Patent number: 4660952
Abstract: In a focal plane shutter of the kind having a plurality of divided blades pivotally arranged to be turnable on driving arms in an overlapped state, the weight of the blades is reduced by making them from very thin material; the blades are reinforced with embossed protrusions which are formed in the longitudinal direction of the blades for the purpose of preventing them from flexing and being damaged during their travel. Each of the embossed protrusions is within the difference in stepped height between the surfaces of the blades and the heads of blade carrying studs disposed on the driving arms. Therefore, the shutter can be smoothly operated without increasing the thickness of the blades as a whole.

  • Patent number: 4661312
Abstract: A nuclear reactor, particularly a light water reactor or a helium-cooled high-temperature reactor, is provided with a pressure relief system for relieving pressure resulting under fault conditions from coolant in the reactor pressure vessel and/or the protective vessel of the reactor, wherein the coolant is conducted from the vessel or vessels to a pressure relief station downstream thereof. At the pressure relief station the coolant is fed into a liquid reservoir 4 from which the coolant in gaseous or vapor form is fed sequentially through a washing cyclone 13 and a drying cyclone 25. Most of the radioactive fission products carried by the coolant will have been removed by the liquid reservoir 4 and the washing cyclone 13, and the coolant leaving the cyclone 25 may be safely discharged to atmosphere. Both the liquid reservoir 4 and the washing cyclone 13 are provided with cooling circuits 8 to 12 and 14 to 23 respectively for the liquids.

  • Patent number: 4659975
Abstract: A remote speed controller for an electric motor, the controller comprising a switching unit having three switches. A capacitor pack incorporating two capacitors is connected to the switching unit such that different combinations of the capacitors can be selected by one switch. The controller is connected in circuit between an AC voltage supply and windings of a motor so that selective actuation of the one switch changes the speed of the motor in accordance with the values of the capacitors selected. Further switches are incorporated to provide reverse motor capability and remote sensor capability.

  • Patent number: 4659555
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of basic copper carbonate by reacting copper salts with alkali carbonate in aqueous solution at elevated temperatures and with stirring and subsequently isolating the copper carbonate. In this process, a waste solution from copper etching processes which contains hydrochloric acid and sodium chloride, is stirred into a 5 to 15 weight percent solution of alkali carbonate heated to 40.degree. to 70.degree. C., the pH of the solution not being allowed to fall below 6.5, and the precipitated basic copper carbonate is separated from the aqueous solution in a known manner. A light green, basic copper carbonate is obtained, which is free of copper chloride and copper oxide.

  • Patent number: 4659270
Abstract: A metal expansion dowel is made up of an axially elongated cylindrically shaped expansion sleeve and an expansion element formed monolithically with the sleeve. The expansion sleeve has a leading end and a trailing end. The sleeve has an opening with the opposite edge surfaces extending in the axial direction converging toward the leading end. The expansion element is located in the opening and is secured to the sleeve by a separable web. The expansion element is wedge-shaped and narrows in the leading end direction. An inwardly projecting stop is formed in the expansion element. When an axial force is directed toward the leading end against the stop, the web is separated from the sleeve and the expansion element is displaced axially toward the leading end of the sleeve moving along the opposite edge surfaces of the opening and widening the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4658648
Abstract: A method of measuring the thickness of test articles by pulse reflection ultrasonics, the length of time period as determined by the signal triggering the ultrasonic transmission and by an ultrasonic signal reflected at the end of the measurement path length being used to determine the distance travelled by the ultrasonics. In the method, the triggering signal for the ultrasonic transmitter is generated in phase with a measuring oscillation of a high and known frequency, whereafter the integral number of measuring oscillation pulses or waves which fit into a time period corresponding to measurement path length are counted, whereafter the measuring oscillation is so detuned that the residual measuring oscillation or wave found over and above that in the time period is reduced to zero and a correction value is derived from the amount of frequency detuning for the measurement path length resulting from the integral number of measuring oscillation pulses or waves.

  • Patent number: 4656806
Abstract: An expansion anchor assembly for use in a borehole formed in a receiving material has a leading end and a trailing end relative to the insertion direction of the assembly into the borehole. The expansion anchor assembly includes a tie rod with an expansion cone at its leading end, an expansion sleeve through which the tie rod extends and a cone sleeve positioned around the expansion cone and between the expansion cone and the leading end of the expansion sleeve. The radially outer surfaces of the expansion cone and the cone sleeve each have a different cone angle. Due to the different once angle, when the tie rod is drawn into the expansion sleeve toward the trailing end of the assembly, the part with the smaller cone angle moves in the same direction into the expansion sleeve until it contacts a stop. Subsequently on continued inward movement of the tie rod, both the expansion cone and the cone sleeve are drawn into the leading end of the expansion sleeve and effect an increased expanding action.
