  • Patent number: 7263671
Abstract: The present invention provides techniques for generating a printable representation of multimedia information that can be printed on a paper medium to provide a paper-based interface for the multimedia information. The printable representation for the multimedia information is annotated to identify locations of information in the multimedia information that may be of interest to a user. A multimedia paper document generated by printing the annotated printable representation on a paper medium displays the annotations. The annotations provide visual indications of information relevant to the user.

  • Patent number: 7261421
Abstract: Image disturbance called speckle noise occurs when an image generator has a small effective screen size and a projection lens has a small effective diameter. The present invention is intended to reduce speckle noise. In an optical projector, a viewing angle enlarging ember (60) for enlarging viewing angle or a scattering member (28) for scattering image light is disposed near an image display device (18), such as a liquid crystal panel. Speckle noise can be reduced, suppressing the deterioration of resolution and contrast.

  • Patent number: 7260886
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a clamping mechanism capable of clamping a magnetic disk by an accurate fastening force. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk fastening method includes the steps of: mounting a magnetic disk on a hub structure, setting a thin plate spring having a pressure-bearing part, a flexible part and a disk holding part at a predetermined position relative to the magnetic disk with the disk holding part in contact with a surface of the magnetic disk; pressing the pressure-bearing part by screwing a fastening screw in a threaded hole formed in the hub structure; measuring a deflection by which the flexible part is deflected in the pressure-bearing part pressing step; and stopping pressing the magnetic disk upon the increase of the deflection to a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 7262043
Abstract: Disclosed are various forms of an active, isolated ?-secretase enzyme in purified and recombinant form. This enzyme is implicated in the production of amyloid plaque components which accumulate in the brains of individuals afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. Recombinant cells that produce this enzyme either alone or in combination with some of its natural substrates (?-APPwt and ?-APPsw) are also disclosed, as are antibodies directed to such proteins. These compositions are useful for use in methods of selecting compounds that modulate ?-secretase. Inhibitors of ?-secretase are implicated as therapeutics in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.

  • Patent number: 7263623
Abstract: A microprocessor-based system includes multiple peripherals, which can be accessed by the microprocessor over a system bus, with the aid of address decoding logic. Depending on the required functionality of the system at any time, one or more of the peripherals can be disabled. When a peripheral device is disabled, the address decoding logic of the system is modified to ensure that no attempts are made to access that peripheral device.

  • Patent number: 7262768
Abstract: A method for rendering participating media effects is disclosed. At least one object having a surface is defined and a lattice, aligned with a camera, is also defined that encompasses the at least one object. A volumetric line integral is computed from the camera to lattice points in a neighborhood of a particular point on the surface of the object to obtain a value. The obtained value is filtered to obtain a volumetric line integral value for the particular point on the surface. Additionally, the set of values may be cached in memory and may be used in computing additional volumetric line integrals when applicable. The set of values determined for lattice points is filtered to determine the volumetric line integral value for a particular point on the surface.
