Abstract: Novel compounds having activity as non-covalent inhibitors of urokinase and having activity in reducing or inhibiting blood vessel formation are provided. These compounds have at a group having a guanidino moiety or derivative thereof. These compounds are useful in vitro for monitoring plasminogen activator levels and in vivo in treatment of conditions which are ameliorated by inhibition of or decreased activity of urokinase and in treating pathologic conditions wherein blood vessel formation is related to a pathologic condition.

Abstract: A separate read/write magnetic head of the present invention includes a magnetoresistive head 11 having a magnetoresistive film 25 disposed between a lower shield 23 and an upper shield 28, both of which are formed on a substrate 21, and a pair of electrodes 26 electrically connected to the magnetoresistive film 25; and an inductive magnetic thin film head 12 having a coil 33 between a lower pole piece 31 and an upper pole piece 35, both of which are disposed on the upper shield 28 of the magnetoresistive head 11 with a separation film 29 being sandwiched therebetween, and through a magnetic gap film 32 and an interlayer insulating film 34. Reduced protrusion of the read head element toward the air bearing surface due to heat deformation caused by changes in ambient temperature can be achieved by configuring the lower shield 23 and the upper shield 28 so that the sum of their thicknesses is 0.4 ?m or more and less than 3.4 ?m.

Abstract: A device to support one or more articles with a pole, where the device may include a collar having a first section and a second section that are coupled by a hinge to allow the collar to open. The collar may be openable at opposite facing ends of the first and second sections to receive the pole, and closeable around the received pole. The device may also include a clasp to lock the collar in a closed position on the pole. The clasp may include a fastening hook and a tensioning member coupled by a clasp pin. The fastening hook has a hooked end that can be received by a lip on the first section of the collar and held on the lip by articulating the tensioning member to the closed position.
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for treating and/or determining appropriate prescriptions for one or both eyes of a patient are particularly well-suited for addressing presbyopia, often in combination with concurrent treatments of other vision defects. High-order spherical aberration may be imposed in one or both of a patient's eyes, often as a controlled amount of negative spherical aberration extending across a pupil. A desired presbyopia-mitigating quantity of high-order spherical aberration may be defined by one or more spherical Zernike coefficients, which may be combined with Zernike coefficients generated from a wavefront aberrometer. The resulting prescription can be imposed using refractive surgical techniques such as laser eye surgery, using intraocular lenses and other implanted structures, using contact lenses, using temporary or permanent corneal reshaping techniques, and/or the like.
Abstract: An antenna assembly suitable for use with a microwave-based level measurement system mounted on a vessel. The antenna assembly comprises a rod antenna having a mounting member with an integral sealing ring. The antenna is molded from a conductive polymer such as PTFE. The sealing ring is also formed from the same polymer as the antenna. The sealing ring may be formed as an integral component of the mounting member molded from a polymer material or as a separate ring element which is welded or otherwise affixed to the mounting member. The antenna assembly is coupled to the level measurement apparatus using a clamping mechanism. As the clamping mechanism is secured to the mounting member, the sealing ring is compressed and deflected and in the compressed state provides a seal between the level measurement apparatus and the section of antenna extending into the vessel. According to another embodiment, the antenna assembly is adapted for and mounted in a horn antenna.

Abstract: Circuits, methods, and apparatus for training a phase shift circuit to provide a phase shift for improved data recovery. A specific embodiment of the present invention provides a variable delay cell. A delay through the variable delay cell is changed while training patterns are received. The presence of errors in the received data pattern is tracked, and from the presence or absence of errors a preferred delay is selected and used for receiving data.
Abstract: A method for enhancing the transfection efficiency of naked plasmid DNA in treating and/or preventing angiogenesis-dependent symptoms is provided by the present inventions. According to the present method, a suitable naked plasmid DNA is subjected for intramuscular injection under increased pressure inside the muscle or hyperbaric oxygen. Angiogenesis-dependent symptoms, including wounds, inflammatory diseases, critical limb ischemia, ischemia heart diseases, cerebral infarction, diabetic neuropathy, spinal canal stenosis, etc., may be treated by the present methods.
Abstract: An apparatus for processing adaptive codebook pitch lag from one CELP based standard to another CELP based standard. The apparatus has various modules that perform at least the functionality described herein. The apparatus includes a time-base subframe checker inspection module, which is adapted to associate one or more incoming subframes with an outgoing subframes of a destination codec. The apparatus also has a decision module coupled to the time-base subframe inspection module. The decision module is adapted to determine a desired pitch lag parameter from a plurality of pitch lag parameters among respective two or more incoming subframes. The apparatus has a pitch lag selection module coupled to the decision module. The pitch lag selection module is adapted to select the desired pitch lag parameter.

Abstract: A fully integrated CMOS multi-element phased-array transmitter (transmitter) includes, in part, on-chip power amplifiers (PA), with integrated output matching. The transmitter is adapted to be configured as a two-dimensional 2-by-2 array or as a one dimensional 1-by-4 array. The transmitter uses a two step up-conversion architecture with an IF frequency of 4.8 GHz. Double-quadrature architecture for the up-conversion stages attenuates the signal at image frequencies. The phase selectors in each transmitter path have independent access to all the phases of the VCO. The double quadrature architecture results in two sets of phase selectors for each path, one for the in-phase (I) and one for the quadrature phase (Q) of the LO signal. The phase selection is done in two stages, with the first stage determining the desired VCO differential phase pair and the next stage selecting the appropriate polarity. An on-chip Balun is used for differential to single-ended conversion.

Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, A data center system comprises a plurality of data centers each including a computer and a storage system. The computers each include a memory area for storing information about an order of operating priorities among the computers and another memory area for storing a cluster service program, whereby when an active computer from the computers fails as a failed computer, the cluster service program is executed to select a standby computer from the remaining computers according to the information about the order of operating priorities to be a failover computer to take over processing from the failed computer. The information about the order of operating priorities may relate to the types of remote copy operation used between the storage systems.
Abstract: This invention provides a microfluidic device for use in the detection of one or more analytes in a fluid using solid-phase affinity binding assays. The device offers a practical, easy-to-use, portable, inexpensive, robust analytical system for the parallel and quantitative detection of multiple analytes. In addition, this invention provides methods and devices for the formation of concentration gradients of capture molecules immobilized on a solid phase.
Abstract: A fast switching diode includes an n? layer having an upper surface and a lower surface and a first edge and a second edge, the second edge provided on an opposing side of the first edge. A converted region is provided proximate the upper surface of the n? layer. The converted region includes platinum and has a first depth. The converted region has a platinum concentration that is substantially greater than an n-type dopant concentration in the converted region. First and second n+ regions are provided proximate the first and second edges of the n? layer, respectively, and extend from the upper surface of the n? layer to second and third depths, respectively. Each of the second and third depths is greater than the first depth to reduce leakage current. A first electrode is provided proximate the upper surface of the n? layer. A second electrode is provided proximate the lower surface of the n? layer.
Abstract: A magnetic switch assembly for hearing devices designed for remote activation by the user is highly miniaturized with a self-contained latching mechanism. The switch is activated and deactivated by the user via a hand-held magnet placed in proximity to the hearing device. The switch assembly includes a miniature reed switch and a miniature latching magnet affixed directly to one of the reeds or the associated lead wire. Direct attachment minimizes the air gap between the latching magnet and a reed thus enabling latching with only an extremely small magnet. The latching magnet produces a magnetic field of adequate strength to hold the reeds together in electrical contact after the air gap between the reeds is closed by the user's placement of the external hand-held magnet in proximity thereto. But the latching magnet's field is of inadequate strength for unaided closure of the air gap between the reeds.
Abstract: The present invention provides techniques, including a method and system, for relocating data between storage systems. In one embodiment of the present invention a host collects usage information from a plurality of storage systems, and determines the relocation destination LU for data stored in the LU to be relocated. The host alters an LU logical position name table that determines matching between the logical position names of data and LUs. It also carries out data relocation between storage subsystems by shifting data stored in an origin LU to be relocated to a destination LU. In another embodiment relocation of files is provided.
Abstract: A method for making a semiconductor device having a first active region and a second active region includes providing first and second isolation structures defining the first active region on a substrate. The first active region uses a first operational voltage, and the second active region uses a second operational voltage that is different from the first voltage. A nitride layer overlying the first and second active regions is formed. An oxide layer overlying the nitride layer is formed. A first portion of the oxide layer overlying the first active region is removed to expose a first portion of the nitride layer. The exposed first portion of the nitride layer is removed using a wet etch method while leaving a second portion of the nitride layer that is overlying the second active region intact.
