  • Patent number: 7253081
Abstract: A method for treating a film of material, which can be defined on a substrate, e.g., silicon. The method includes providing a substrate comprising a cleaved surface, which is characterized by a predetermined surface roughness value. The substrate also has a distribution of hydrogen bearing particles defined from the cleaved surface to a region underlying said cleaved surface. The method also includes increasing a temperature of the cleaved surface to greater than about 1,000 Degrees Celsius while maintaining the cleaved surface in an etchant bearing environment to reduce the predetermined surface roughness value by about fifty percent and greater. Preferably, the value can be reduced by about eighty or ninety percent and greater, depending upon the embodiment.

  • Patent number: 7253842
Abstract: To match the output frame rates to the input frame rates, a display clock signal is generated that has a frequency locked to the frequency of a reference clock signal. To generate the display clock signal, the period of the vertical incoming data clock is measured using the reference clock signal. The number of pixels disposed in the output frames is subsequently divided by the measured period. A fractional-N phase-locked loop circuit is adapted to multiply the result of the division with the frequency of the reference clock signal to generate the display clock signal. The display clock signal is also locked to the reference clock signal.

  • Patent number: 7253581
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a way to accurately detect the position of a spindle motor. In a spindle motor startup process according to one embodiment, a parameter setup section acquires from a parameter table a sense time value corresponding to an input voltage that is acquired from an ADC. The parameter setup section sets the sense time value in a register. A position determination section, which is within an SPM driver, performs an induced voltage detection process for rotor position detection purposes during the time corresponding to the sense time value that is set in the register. Even when the input voltage is decreased, rotor position detection can be properly achieved by changing the sense time value in accordance with a change in the input voltage.

  • Patent number: 7254160
Abstract: A radio receiver handles a transmitted Walsh sequence having a code length of “m” as a two-dimensional array of “a” rows and “b” columns, and performs a fast Hadamard transform process having a code length of “a” in the row direction. The absolute values of the results are added in the column direction, and a Walsh number having the maximum receiving power is selected to determine a Walsh sequence having a code length of “a.” Then, only the identified column is extracted, and a fast Hadamard transform process having a code length of “b” is applied in the column direction.

  • Patent number: 7254723
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods and apparatus for managing current consumption of a peripheral device to meet power specification of the host system having a preset average current supply limit, a preset peak current supply limit, or both. In specific embodiments, the host system has a current supply limit available for supplying current to the peripheral device. The peripheral device operates in a low current consumption mode and a peak current consumption mode which is intermittent over time. The peripheral device draws a low current in the low current consumption mode which is lower than the current supply limit and drawing a peak current in the peak current consumption mode which is higher than the current supply limit. The apparatus comprises a reservoir configured to store excess energy from the host system during the low current consumption mode where the low current drawn by the peripheral device is lower than the current supply limit available from the host system.

  • Patent number: 7251908
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention prevent or alleviate head damage ascribable to the TA-causing sections (projections) of disks (TA is thermal asperity). With respect to a TA-causing section that has been detected during initial defect registration, X±A tracks in a radial direction and Y±B sectors (or Y±B bytes of space) in a circumferential direction, with the TA-causing section as a center, are registered collectively during primary registration. Following this, secondary registration is conducted to register a region ranging from±several tens of tracks to several hundreds of tracks present in a radial direction, and all sectors (or all bytes of space) present in a circumferential direction, with a track of the detected TA-causing section as a center. Furthermore, a cylinder of a region equivalent to the same radial positions as those of the secondary registration is registered (as tertiary registration) for all disks, except for the disk where the TA-causing section was detected.

  • Patent number: 7254609
Abstract: A method for managing data traffic in a multiple-user multiple simultaneous access environment using a channel load estimate and a calculation. The estimate or estimates are used to calculate a congestion threshold (CT) and to select a current congestion threshold broadcast to all potential users. An experiment is performed by users comparing that congestion threshold value and a random number to determine if a packet is eligible to be transmitted, thus throttling the random transmission of packets so that the transmitted load from the terminal has a rate of packet transmission that is less than the congestion threshold times the offered load (from the user), where the congestion threshold value is related to the probability of a globally successful transmission of a number of simultaneously transmitted packets. A quality of service (QOS) factor may also throttle the transmitted load.

  • Patent number: 7254699
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to microprocessor or microcontroller architecture, and particularly to an architecture structured to handle unaligned memory references. A method is disclosed for loading unaligned data stored in several memory locations, including a step of loading a first part of the unaligned data into a first storage location and rotating the first part from a first position to a second position in the first memory location. Next a second part of the unaligned data is loaded into a second storage location and rotated from one position to another position. Then the first storage location is combined with the second storage location using a logical operation into a result storage location. The storage locations may be, for example, 64-bit registers. The logical operation may be a bit-wise OR operation.

  • Patent number: 7253254
Abstract: The invention pertains to polypeptide variants with increased heparin-binding ability. Increased heparin-binding ability is achieved by addition, insertion, and/or substitution of an amino acid sequence X1X2X3X4X5X6 (SEQ ID NO. 1 or NO.2). Polypeptide variants according to the invention are particularly suited for stimulation of chondrogenesis, osteogenesis, and wound healing. The invention also pertains to amino acid molecules that encode said polypeptide variants, host cells containing said nucleic acid molecules, and processes for producing the polypeptide variants.

  • Patent number: 7254789
Abstract: Logic designs are optimized to satisfy long-path and short-path timing constraints for multiple process/operating condition corners. A path-based compilation phase determines an implementation for logic design paths, in part, by monitoring a set of paths that are important from a timing perspective and evaluating the timing performance of the set of monitored paths at one or more timing corners. A timing-analysis-based compilation phase determines transformations for converting sets of timing values from one timing corner to another timing corner. The compilation phase transforms timing delay values from one timing corner to another to facilitate analysis of timing performance at different corners. Timing slack values produced by analysis are transformed to map them from one timing corner to another. The transformed timing slack values from multiple corners are amalgamated.

  • Patent number: 7252237
Abstract: A scanner, especially one for the detection of one- and/or two-dimensional codes with a reception optics, projects the image of a reading line onto a linear arrangement of photoreceivers. An illumination arrangement for linearly illuminating an entire reading line has several substantially point-like light sources arranged adjacent to each other in a line. To boost the efficiency of the illumination arrangement, it has at least one anamorphotic illumination optics which forms the light emitted by the light sources into an illumination line.

  • Patent number: 7252963
Abstract: Disclosed are various forms of an active, isolated ?-secretase enzyme in purified and recombinant form. This enzyme is implicated in the production of amyloid plaque components which accumulate in the brains of individuals afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. Recombinant cells that produce this enzyme either alone or in combination with some of its natural substrates (?-APPwt and ?-APPsw) are also disclosed, as are antibodies directed to such proteins. These compositions are useful for use in methods of selecting compounds that modulate ?-secretase. Inhibitors of ?-secretase are implicated as therapeutics in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease.
