Abstract: A method for fabricating a semiconductor device includes the steps of forming a SiC film, forming trenches at a surface of the SiC film, heat-treating the SiC film with silicon supplied to the surface of the SiC film, and obtaining a plurality of macrosteps to constitute channels, at the surface of the SiC film by the step of heat-treating. Taking the length of one cycle of the trenches as L and the height of the trenches as h, a relation L=h(cot ?+cot ?) (where ? and ? are variables that satisfy the relations 0.5??, ??45) holds between the length L and the height h. Consequently, the semiconductor device can be improved in property.

Abstract: An improved method of preparing vegetables intended for microwave cooking allows a hot, cooked vegetable to be easily removed from an enveloping film. The vegetables are cleaned and seasonings and cooking aids such as oils are optionally applied to the vegetable. Then the prepared vegetables are enclosed by and sealed into a plastic film. The film protects the vegetable from excess desiccation and provides a “built-in” container for microwave cooking. The film includes an opening system for safely releasing the vegetable after cooking. A tear-strip includes an edge or tab for grasping so that the film can be opened by a simple pull.
Abstract: A poultry paw cutting apparatus can include a conveyor that conveys a plurality of shackles. Each of the shackles can be adapted to hold a poultry paw. A chain can receive the poultry paws from the shackles at a first location and can convey the poultry paws substantially in unison with the shackles to a second location. The poultry paws can be released from the shackles at the second location. A paw cutting station can be positioned along the chain. A first guide member can be located along the chain substantially between the second location and the paw cutting station. The first guide member can be adapted to press the poultry paws against the chain. A method of cutting a poultry paw is also disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of addressing the nozzles of a printhead; a group of nozzles of a print column of the printhead are staggered and are arranged according to a spatial order, e.g. N01 N02 N03 N04 N05 N06 N07 N08 N09 N10 N11 N12, with respect to the transversal translation direction of the printhead; the nozzle of the group are divided in a number, e.g. 2 or 3 or 4 or 5, of sequential subgroups corresponding to different addressing spaces; an addressing scheme is obtained by cyclically and progressively selecting addresses from these addressing spaces; in this way, it is possible to print with a single pass at different resolutions, higher than the standard resolution of the printhead, by reducing the transversal translation speed of the printhead but maintaining the same addressing timing; the method according to the present invention leaves the possibility of printing at standard resolution and at lower resolutions.

Abstract: A direct current power transmission system includes a first and a second converter station that are coupled to each other via a direct current link. Each converter station includes a first or second line commutated converter, respectively. Before power reversal the first converter is operated as a rectifier and the direct current is controlled in the first station, while the second converter is operated as an inverter and in the second station the extinction angle of the second converter or the direct voltage is controlled. After power reversal, the first converter is operated as an inverter and the second converter as a rectifier.
Abstract: To provide a cost-effective, stable vacuum insulation panel (10) having at least one lead-through (20) in a main surface (16) of an insulating material supporting body (14) and having a vacuum-tight film envelope (17), it is proposed that the lead-through (20) is formed as a bush (30) with an outer side (32) facing the insulating material supporting body (14) and that on the first bush end (36) is provided a first, preformed collar (37) extending radially away from the bush (30) into the main surface (16) and, opposite said collar, is provided a second collar (39) formed by thermal deformation of the second bush end (38), wherein the vacuum-tight film envelope (17) is welded to the collars (37, 39). A corresponding method for producing the panel is also described.
Abstract: The present invention provides a balloon catheter comprising: a hollow inner shaft disposed within a hollow outer shaft; a balloon attached at its proximal end to said outer shaft and at its distal end to said inner shaft; wherein the inner shaft is constructed such that following radial expansion of the balloon to a first expanded state, said inner shaft is capable of responding to further longitudinal expansion of the balloon to a second expanded state by increasing its length from a resting value, and of responding to subsequent partial deflation back to said first expanded state by reducing its length back to said resting value.

Abstract: The present invention enables eye contact between conferees during a teleconference using a terminal equipped with a beamsplitter for reflecting an image of a conferee. In one embodiment the image of the conferee appears to be in a backdrop. The display is positioned behind the viewing side of the beam-splitter so that the conferee views the display through the beamsplitter. The invention can be configured to create the appearance that a life-size teleconference image of a remote conferee appears in the same room as the local conferee apparently sitting on the other side of the desk or table—creating the experience of telepresence with eye contact. Additional embodiments include adaptable features of the present invention which enable it to be configured into many specific types of eye contact display products. The invention further teaches the design of a telepresence network, linking numerous terminals sharing a commonality in configuration.
Abstract: It is to provide a novel Kluyveromyces marxianus transformant having thermotolerance and flocculation property, suitable for the industrial production of bioethanol, by introducing a foreign flocculation gene into Kluyveromyces marxianus, and an efficient method for producing the transformant. The present inventors focused on the flocculation gene FLO of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a foreign gene to confer flocculation property to Kluyveromyces marxianus and produced a linear DNA fragment comprising a known expression promoter sequence and a FLO gene sequence derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. As a result of introducing this linear DNA fragment into Kluyveromyces marxianus, the present inventors have confirmed that Kluyveromyces marxianus transformant can be obtained efficiently, and that the flocculation property of the above transformant is unexpectedly and significantly enhanced. The present invention has been thus completed.

The apparatus includes award means for awarding a player event points during the course of play, accumulator means for accumulating the awarded event points, and purchasing/selection means for allowing a player to purchase a game event using the accumulated event points. These game events may provide the player with the chance of higher returns or the like, and may include free plays, high return games, a jackpot game and the like.

Abstract: The invention relates to a warhead comprising a first and a second part, the parts being arranged relative to one another along a longitudinal axis, the first part comprising a first explosive section, a casing, and a plurality of projectiles enclosed in the casing. The second part comprises an element designed to control the working of the warhead as a function of a control signal. The fact that the functioning of the warhead can be controlled means that the warhead can defeat a plurality of different targets, which makes the warhead versatile.

Abstract: A silicon carbide semiconductor device having excellent performance characteristics and a method of manufacturing the same are obtained. An extended terrace surface is formed at a surface of an initial growth layer on a 4H—SiC substrate by annealing with the initial growth layer covered with an Si film, and then a new growth layer is epitaxially grown on the initial growth layer. A 3C—SiC portion having a polytype stable at a low temperature is grown on the extended terrace surface, and a 4H—SiC portion is grown on the other region. A trench is formed by selectively removing the 3C—SiC portion with the 4H—SiC portion remaining, and a gate electrode of a UMOSFET is formed in the trench. A channel region of the UMOSFET can be controlled to have a low-order surface, and a silicon carbide semiconductor device having high channel mobility and excellent performance characteristics is obtained.
