Patent number: 8265051Abstract: A beacon signal used in data communications, such as the IEEE 802.11, is provided with data extensions. The data extensions permit additional information to be provided by the beacon signal, thereby reducing the traffic overhead of the network. The data extensions further permit handoffs and handoffs based on offset values. Periodic beacon requests are made during connection between a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and an access point (AP) on a WLAN. A Measurement Request field corresponding to a beacon request contains a measurement duration value and channel number for which the request applies. The beacon request permits a scan mode which includes “Active Scan” mode, “Passive Scan” mode and “Beacon Table” mode. In Active Scan mode, the measuring station (STA) transmits a probe request with a broadcast SSID.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2010Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventor: Joseph A. Patent number: 8265702Abstract: A access point (AP) during wireless communication with at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), transmits a beacon signal periodically among a plurality of sectors, each sector having its own sector identity, the beacon signal being periodically received at least once in a beacon period and the beacon period comprising a plurality of beacon service periods for all sectors. The AP determines a scheduling value to indicate a number of inactive beacon periods for a first sector to at least one WTRU located in the first sector. The scheduling value is transmitted with the sector identity for the first sector, such that a variable beacon period is established for the first sector, enabling the at least one WTRU located in the first sector to enter a sleep mode for an adjustable period of time.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2011Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Interdigital Technology CorporationInventors: Ana Lucia Iacono, Arty Chandra, Zheng Zhao

Patent number: 8262245Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for providing solar outdoor lighting including a generally U-shaped support pole. The support pole free-ends are spaced apart and attached to a base or substrate connected together by an upper joining section which connects orients and spaces apart the pole supports. Connected to the upper joining section is an electrical light source that is directed downward through a lens suspended below the joining section. Below the lens and above the base or substrate is a housing that includes the solar panel, a rechargeable battery, charging and illumination control circuitry, and activation circuitry to turn on the light at low ambient light levels. The support pole forms a safety barrier for the light source and solar panel from knocks while providing at least two poles for attached to a base or substrate. The present invention further relates to a water-resistant customer activation structure.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2011Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Inventor: Simon Nicholas Richmond
