  • Patent number: 6481266
Abstract: A process for the cylinder-selective leakage testing of the combustion chambers of a combustion engine is carried out during engine operation, but with the combustion process being suppressed. From the time progression of an engine shaft speed value, engine shaft speed differentials are determined respectively for each cylinder. Then a respective value for the compression pressure is allocated to each engine shaft speed differential. Preferably, the respective engine shaft speed differential is determined as the difference between the minimum engine shaft speed immediately following the top dead center position of a respective cylinder and the subsequent maximum engine shaft speed for this cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6478539
Abstract: A blade ring for a gas turbine engine, especially an aircraft engine, may be a rotor ring or disk or a stator ring. At least one blade (9) forming an airfoil (2) is secured to at least one carrier ring (1, 10). The blade (9) is fixed to the carrier ring or disk or shroud (1, 10), either through a platform (4) forming a foot portion of the blade or through a neighboring transitional section (12) forming part of the carrier ring or disk or shroud. The mechanical stress and the overall axial length of the blade ring are reduced by a transition fillet (6) between the surfaces (3) of the airfoil (2) and the platform (4) or the peripheral section (12). The transition fillet (6) has a curve (7) that narrows toward the platform (4) or peripheral section (12) with radii (R1, R2, R3) that have different centers and are largest close to the blade surface (3, 8) and smallest close to the ring surface. This fillet construction extends all around the blade and relative to an inner ring or disk and/or an outer ring.

  • Patent number: 6476507
Abstract: In a resin sealing method, a plurality of semiconductor chips are placed in line on a sheet-type substrate with an adhesive tape, and electrodes provided on the semiconductor chips and the sheet-type substrate are connected with each other with wires, so that the connected substrate is fixed to a mold surface of a lower mold. Then, the lower mold and an upper mold are closed and thereafter molten resin is injected into upper cavities and lower cavities provided in line respectively and hardened. Then, the upper and lower molds are opened to take out the sheet-type substrate having the plurality of semiconductor chips sealed thereto, and the sheet-type substrate is cut along the boundaries between the semiconductor chips by dicing for completing each package. According to this method, particularly a BOC type CSP can be efficiently sealed with resin in high dimensional accuracy.

  • Patent number: 6476423
Abstract: Optical detectors used for remote controls must be able to function over long distances and under various environmental conditions. They must therefore have a high sensitivity, which means they also respond to electrical and magnetic inference fields. The present optical detector avoids the need of being packed in an assembly, which has an additional internal metal shield for protection against electromagnetic interference. In this optical detector, the surface is coated with polysilicon, except for the top-lying cathode contact. Furthermore, a thick oxide layer is arranged between the substrate and the polysilicon coating, which is contacted to a highly p+-doped region of the substrate. Such optical detectors, which are not subject to electromagnetic interference, are primarily required for remote controls.

  • Patent number: 6466041
Abstract: A method for setting the trigger power of transmitter diodes that transmit data via optical paths allows the transmission power to be adjusted and adapted to the communication distance. The trigger power is determined for the present communication distance on the basis of a test signal before data transmission begins. A circuit arrangement implementing the method includes a driver circuit with a switching device that switches a circuit junction point selectively to a supply voltage or to a constant reference voltage, a voltage-controlled resistor which delivers the driver current and is controlled from the circuit junction point, and a voltage-controlled measuring resistor which delivers a measured current with a fixed relationship to the driver current and is controlled from the circuit junction point. Since the set trigger power can be reduced, the power consumption for data transmission can be reduced considerably.
