  • Patent number: 4335975
Abstract: In a method for resurfacing a road, the road surface is first plastified and broken-up by first and second separable devices. The broken-up material is immediately distributed on the road surface by the second device, whereby the broken-up material is simultaneously rearranged and profiled or contoured without the introduction of fresh asphalt or bituminous material at this point of time. A road surfacing or repaver apparatus forming a third separate device then applies fresh asphalt or bituminous material onto the broken-up distributed, rearranged and profiled top surface of the road. Preferably, two distributions of the broken-up material are employed prior to the asphalt application and compaction of the broken-up and distributed material and the new asphalt material. A truck supplies fresh asphalt or bituminous material to the repaver.

  • Patent number: 4327129
Abstract: The present optical element for an astable laser resonator includes a subate of a material which is transparent to the respective laser radiation. In manufacturing the present optical element the substrate is ground and polished on both surfaces and a template or mask is secured to one surface of the substrate. The mask has a mathematically computed boundary configuration which provides a diffraction limited divergence for the finished optical element. In the areas not covered by the mask a highly reflective coating is applied, for example, by vapor deposition. The substrate area which is not covered by the highly reflective coating remains transparent to the laser radiation. Thus, the element is useful as the reflector and/or as a lens in an astable laser resonator.

  • Patent number: 4247497
Abstract: The production of a mat of wood chips and/or fibers, hereafter called wood particles, by a spreading station and a weighing device, is controlled in a closed loop circuit for uniformity, directly during the spreading of the wood particles. Several spreading devices form a spreading station. Electrical signals emanating from a tared weighing device which is arranged downstream of a first spreading device as viewed in the direction of travel of a conveyor belt, are used to control the output of the first spreading device. If desired, the output of one or more spreading devices located downstream of a weighing device may also be controlled in a closed loop circuit, whereby the weight of the partially formed mat moving over the weighing device produces the electrical control signal which is compared to a predetermined reference signal for controlling the production of the finished mat having one or several layers.

  • Patent number: 4244708
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for separating components from a flog medium by means of centrifugal force. The flowing medium travels through two stages. In the first stage a spin is generated and in the second stage the actual material separation is accomplished in one or several separating devices by means of one or several whirling or eddy sources. The apparatus includes a spin generator housing and separator chambers, whereby spin conduits extend into the separator chambers toward exhaust pipes to such an extent that a spacing is provided between the spin conduit and the exhaust pipe. At least one exhaust suction is tangentially effective in the area of this spacing.

  • Patent number: 4231366
Abstract: The present blood flow monitoring and control apparatus is especially use in connection with the so-called single needle technique, for example, for treatments such as dialysis, perfusion, or diafiltration. The blood pressure control is accomplished by a measuring chamber including a pressure equalizing device operatively connected between the blood cleaning apparatus and the blood pump. Sensors are operatively connected to the volume measuring chamber. The volume sensors provide electric control input signals to a control circuit which in turn controls the blood pumps and/or valves. A reading may be provided on a display or an alarm may be given when the blood pressure or blood quantity or volume is not within predetermined limits as calculated by an electronic computer.

  • Patent number: 4172390
Abstract: In a pivotally mounted member of the memory fine tuning arrangement for a turret type television tuner, a pivotally moved lever plate provided integrally with a pivotal shaft having head portion, neck portion and body portion, is pivotally mounted on a front wall chassis base by setting the neck portion of the pivotal shaft into a notch of the front wall, wherein assembly of the lever plate to the front wall chassis base can be achieved by the two steps of inserting the head and neck portions of the pivotal shaft into a large opening portion of the notch in the front wall and slidingly setting the neck portion in a small opening portion from the large opening portion through continuous opening portion of the notch. To ensure easy and accurate assembly, a vertical support for the pivotal shaft on the front wall is affixed to the pivotally mounted member so that the parallel relation between the front wall and the lever plate is maintained.

  • Patent number: 4167229
Abstract: A screw strip for holding a row of parallel screws is formed of a flexible plastic material with sleeves which either only partially surround the screws, or have different wall thicknesses on different sides of the screws. The ribs interconnecting the sleeves have wall thicknesses less than the outer diameters of the screw threads. In a method for forming the screw strip, a plastic material is extruded only on one side of the threads of a row of screws, and it is then pressed by means of grooved rollers to be formed into the sleeves which only partially surround the screws.

  • Patent number: 4164994
Abstract: A hydraulic eddy brake has a rotor and a stator both forming an eddy chamber. Liquid supply conduits lead to the center of the eddy chamber. The rotor shaft is sealed relative to the housing formed by the stator. The sealing is accomplished by noncontacting sealings. Leakage liquid is discharged to respective chambers located between the bearings and the eddy chamber proper. A gap is provided between the shaft and the housing. This gap is connected with the center of the eddy chamber through a liquid feedback which may include an intermediate chamber and respective liquid feedback conduits whereby the pressure at the point of leakage is minimized. Such brakes are used as absorption dynamometers to measure torque.

  • Patent number: 4161191
Abstract: An adapter for connection to a liquid faucet comprises an inlet member, a coaxial outlet member, and a valve device which is rotatable relative to the outlet member about an axis common to the inlet and outlet members. The inlet member is connectable to the outlet end of the liquid faucet. The outlet member has several outlet openings or groups of outlet openings separated from each other. The valve device is rotated in order to continuously adjust the opening ratio between the various outlet openings of the outlet member relative to each other, thereby providing a precisely regulated amount of liquid which is branched off from the liquid faucet for operating auxiliary devices such as a douche.

  • Patent number: 4156811
Abstract: Isotopes are separated from a gas mixture by accelerating the gas mixture containing the isotopes to ultrasonic speeds sufficient to bring the gas temperature to 150.degree. K or less. Simultaneously, the gas is subject to a pressure well above the vapor pressure of the gas at said temperature. Under these conditions the gas is subjected to a laser radiation having a wave length corresponding to the absorption line or band of the molecules containing the isotopes to be separated, whereby the molecules are excited so that they may be separated by conventional devices. The present apparatus has a high pressure reservoir supplying the gas mixture through a device for producing said ultrasonic speeds into an expansion chamber. As the gas flowing at said speeds is irradiated by the laser beam, it expands into a low pressure reservoir. The laser is arranged so that the laser beam extends across the expanding gas flow at a point where the expanding gas does not yet start to condense.

  • Patent number: 4154539
Abstract: A suspension of solid particles in a liquid is produced and maintained by riodically moving agitating elements up and down in an elongated, flat bottom container. The agitating elements may, for example, be baffle plates, grids or the like, which are moved up and down either in a linear or in an angular movement. Preferably, two sets of agitating members are arranged so as to pass through each other in their periodic up and down movements. A carriage having mounted thereon a pump and a spray nozzle is movable alongside the elongated container with an intake of the pump reaching into the container without interfering with the moving agitating elements.
