  • Patent number: 8253351
Abstract: A control means has an adjustment function in a microprocessor to adjust variations in an output to a discharge lamp due to variations in components by correcting a duty ratio of a PWM signal for varying an operating frequency of an inverter circuit so that a detected value of a second detection circuit falls within a target range. The microprocessor switches paths to transmit the PWM signal between a path passing through a feedback circuit and a path passing through a voltage follower circuit by switches a switch circuit to supply the signal through the path passing through the voltage follower circuit in adjusting output variations in the preheating mode and the starting mode.

  • Patent number: 8242870
Abstract: A magnetic component having a magnetic core structure includes a core body with a notched region for reducing non-essential core material. The notched region has the cross-sectional shape of a trapezoid and includes two notch walls separated by a middle wall. The notch walls are each oriented at an obtuse angle relative to the middle notch wall. The core structure reduces the cost of manufacture and the size of the magnetic component by eliminating non-essential core material from regions of the core that have little or no impact on the magnetic performance of the component. The desired magnetic flux path in the component remains substantially unaffected by the removal of the non-essential core material. The body of the core may also include one or more angled shoulders positioned at the corners of the core body to further eliminate non-essential core material.

  • Patent number: 8232727
Abstract: An electronic ballast circuit includes a filament drive circuit that can adjust the pulse width of a pulsed heating signal in accordance with the lamp current to a gas-discharge lamp. A logic device, such as an SR flip-flop, is used to control a switch that is coupled to the primary winding of a filament drive transformer coupled to the lamp filaments. The logic device opens and closes the switch device to generate the pulses of the pulsed heating signal and thus controls the pulse width of the pulses. A clock signal triggers logic device to start a pulse while the end of the pulse is determined by a signal level across a resistor in series with the primary winding of filament drive transformer. Once this signal level is at or above a threshold level, logic device switches the switch device to end the pulse.

  • Patent number: 8222835
Abstract: An electronic ballast is provided for adjustable filament preheating of a discharge lamp based on output current symmetry. A power converter receives DC power and outputs AC power. A starting circuit generates a high voltage for starting the lamp. A control circuit controls the AC power output from the power converting circuit. A symmetry determining circuit determines a positive-negative symmetrical state of the AC power output to the lamp with respect to ground. After lamp startup, the control circuit enters a filament heating operation in which the output frequency of the power converting circuit is controlled to a first frequency. At one or more predetermined current detection points during the filament heating operation, the control circuit checks the symmetry state.
