  • Patent number: 8154214
Abstract: A system and method for powering a light-emitting element in an illumination device includes a DC power supply with the light-emitting element coupled across a positive output terminal and a negative output terminal of the DC power supply. A switching element is coupled between the light-emitting element and the negative output terminal. An average current value across the light-emitting element is measured each time the switching element is turned on. A control circuit generates a PWM signal having a pulse width determined based on the calculated average current value and a predetermined target value, and applies the PWM signal to drive the switching element on and off in accordance with the determined pulse width, and a current is generated across the light-emitting element.

  • Patent number: 8143809
Abstract: A LED illuminating device includes: a power source device, a controller, an LED lighting device, and an LED unit 4 incorporating LEDs of a plurality of emission colors. The device is configured to mix the lights of the LEDs at an arbitrary proportion and set the lights in an arbitrary color mixture proportion on the basis of a dimming signal from the controller. The device is further configured so that: a coefficient specific to the LED unit at which an emission color of the LED unit becomes a desired color can be set to a signal value of the controller preliminarily set as a standard. The LED lighting device can control an emission amount of the LEDs having the respective emission colors by using a value calculated by a calculation expression employing the specific coefficient.

  • Patent number: 8143796
Abstract: An electronic ballast is provided for controlled preheating of filaments in a discharge lamp. A power converter has a plurality of switching elements and converts DC power from a DC power source into AC power for the lamp. A starting circuit generates a high voltage for starting the lamp. A half-wave discharge detecting circuit detects an absolute value for each polarity peak of a lamp current, calculates an asymmetrical current value from the detected peaks with respect to a predetermined current threshold, and detects a half-wave discharge of the lamp wherein an absolute value of the asymmetrical current value is equal to or more than the current threshold for a predetermined determination time.

  • Patent number: 8128718
Abstract: A composition including an abrasive, a suspension agent, a surfactant, and a lubricant, is provided for removing scratches, hazing, discoloration, and other defects from plastic surfaces. The composition is applied to a surface and used to polish the surface. The defects within the surface are removed without the removal of significant amounts of the material. Accordingly, the present invention removes defects from surfaces without creating optical distortion.

  • Patent number: 8127682
Abstract: An improved cast booster design and method of assembly is provided for the detonation of blasting agents. The booster design utilizes a pre-formed core that simplifies assembly of the booster and increases the reliability of detonation transfer from a blasting cap. The pre-formed core has a cup shaped aperture provides improved coupling with the initiation source. The pre-formed core is made using a relatively insensitive explosive composition that can be manufactured using high speed pressing methods. The explosive composition allows for the attainment of a well defined shape with a predictable density. The pre-formed core shape mates with the casting mold in a way that ensures the location of the core within the booster thereby improving reliability and reducing labor associated with the booster manufacturing operation.

  • Patent number: 8128177
Abstract: An adaptive advance control system for a construction machine senses the reaction forces applied by the ground surface to a milling drum, and in response to the sensed changes in those reaction forces controls the motive power applied to an advance drive of the machine. Early and rapid detection of such changes in reaction forces allow the control system to aid in preventing lurch forward events of the construction machine.
