  • Patent number: 5707375
Abstract: A magnetic positioning system is provided for assisting in positioning a fastening element at a desired concealed internal location such as in a preformed opening in an interlocking nail in a long bone of a limb of a patient who has suffered a bone fracture. The arrangement includes: a first permanent ("target") magnet positioned at the internal location and a positioning device for a second permanent ("targeting") magnet. The positioning device comprises a hand-held drill and a magnetic aiming device mounted on the drill. The aiming device including a pivot member including the second magnet is disposed at one end thereof and having an axial bore. A mount for the pivot member permits three degrees of movement of the pivot member so as to enable the second magnet to align with the first magnet. The positioning device also includes a guide pin which is insertable into the axial bore and which is engaged by the drill chuck of the drill when the magnets are aligned.

  • Patent number: 5666875
Abstract: A double roasting pan that has identical pan halves that fit together to form the double roasting pan. There are diagonally arranged protrusions and recesses provided on the pan halves which fit together to prevent shifting of the pan halves relative to each other. Even if the pan halves are turned into either one of two positions 180.degree. relative to one another they will still fit. The protrusions and recesses on each pan half are "axially symmetrical" relative to the particular pan half. Rigid handles are provided on the pan halves with the handles being incorporated into the one piece construction of the pan halves, and disposed so that when the pan halves are placed together to form the double roasting pan the flanges on the handles of one of the pan halves are spaced from the flanges on the handles of the other of the pan halves so that room is provided to accommodate a gloved or mitted hand of the user when picking up the top one of the pan halves.

  • Patent number: 5662656
Abstract: Instrumentation for and a method of sizing the end of a distal femur, and resecting the distal femur. An instrument body construct is provided with an instrument body and a valgus module for attachment to the instrument body. The instrument body construct has a distal aspect abutting surface with a planar face for abutting the distal aspect of a distal femur at a fixed angle to the longitudinal axis of the distal femur, having a posterior aspect abutting surface with a planar face for abutting the posterior aspect of the distal femur, and having a passageway therethrough. An anterior feeler gauge is provided for attachment to the instrument body construct and for contacting a portion of the anterior aspect of the distal femur to indicate the anterior-to-posterior size of the distal femur. A resection guide is provided for attachment to the instrument body construct for guiding a bone resection tool to resect the distal femur.

  • Patent number: 5641139
Abstract: A furniture leg attached to the underside of the frame of a piece of furniture. The furniture leg has a vertical bore through which a bolt is threadedly screwed into an internally-threaded insert on the frame, entrapping the furniture leg between the head of the bolt and the frame. In some embodiments, at least one, and preferably two, teeth extend upwardly from the upper surface of the furniture leg and pierce through the upholstery and into the frame, preventing the furniture leg from rotating about the axis of the bolt. In other embodiments, at least one, and preferably two, corrugated joiners extend upwardly from the upper surface of the furniture leg and pierce through the upholstery and into the frame, preventing the furniture leg from rotating about the axis of the bolt. One of the corrugated joiners may span a seam between bondedly and abuttingly joined pieces of the furniture leg, thereby also providing additional structural joining of the pieces of the furniture leg.
