Abstract: The present system is a system for controlling a trolling motor in a fishing boat. The system comprises a transmitting unit and a receiving unit. The transmitting unit includes a direction sensor, a selection switch, and a transmitter. The direction sensor automatically senses the direction to which the user desires to steer the fishing boat when the user points the direction sensor in that direction. The user then uses the selection switch, and by “clicking” the switch once the transmitter sends a signal with the direction information to the receiving unit. The receiving unit then receives the signal containing the direction information, and affects the trolling motor in such a way that it steers the fishing boat in the desired direction.
Abstract: A method for filling recessed microstructures at a surface of a microelectronic workpiece, such as a semiconductor wafer, with metallization is set forth. In accordance with the method, a metal layer is deposited into the microstructures with a process, such as an electroplating process, that generates metal grains that are sufficiently small so as to substantially fill the recessed microstructures. The deposited metal is subsequently subjected to an annealing process at a temperature below about 100 degrees Celsius, and may even take place at ambient room temperature to allow grain growth which provides optimal electrical properties. Various novel apparatus for executing unique annealing processes are also set forth.

Abstract: The present invention provides a balance assembly (10) for use with a sash window assembly (104) slidable within a master frame (110). The balance assembly (10) generally includes a plate (20), at least one coil (40), and a shoe or pivot brake assembly (60). The plate (20) is adapted to be attached to the master frame (110). The spring (40) has a coiled portion (42), an intermediate portion (43), and a free portion (44). The coiled portion (42) of the spring (40) is rotatably supported by a support member (30) extending from the plate (20). The free portion (44) of the spring (40) has a curved configuration with a curved end (46). The pivot brake assembly (60) has at least one slot (76) adapted to receive and retain the free portion (44) of the spring (40). The slot (76) defines a protrusion (83) that engages the free portion (44).
Abstract: A sash lock (10) for a sash window assembly (12) is provided. The sash window assembly (12) includes an upper sash window (14) and a lower sash window (16), each of the sash windows (14), (16) mounted within opposed guide rails (18) on a master frame (20), wherein at least one of the sash windows (14), (16) is slidable within the frame (20) relative to the other sash window (14), (16). The sash lock (10) of the present invention includes a keeper (22) adapted for mounting on one of the sash windows (14), (16). The keeper (22) includes a keeper surface. The sash lock (10) also includes a locking assembly (24) adapted for mounting on the other of the sash windows (14), (16). The locking assembly (24) comprises a housing (30) having an aperture (33), an actuator arm (32) rotatable between an unlocked position and a locked position and a cam (34) having a cam surface (40) for engaging the keeper surface.
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of creating electronic files for solving a problem for a learner from the knowledge of an expert comprising the steps of receiving the expert's knowledge in an area of expertise, providing a template for the electronic files and generating the electronic files from the expert's knowledge and the template.
Abstract: An apparatus for sensing position data of a light pattern created by a known light source on an object, comprising an optical system for collecting an incident light beam of the light pattern and transmitting the incident light beam to a beam splitter. The beam splitter has a known reflection/transmission ratio, such that the incident light beam from the light pattern received on the surface of the beam splitter results in a transmission channel, transmitted through the beam splitter, and a reflective channel, reflected from the beam splitter, with intensities of the transmission channel and the reflective channel varying as a function of a position of the incident light beam on the surface of the beam splitter. Detectors detect the intensities of the reflective channel and of the transmission channels. Dimensions of points of the light pattern on the object are calculable as a function of the intensity of the reflective channel and of the intensity of the transmission channel.

Abstract: A system for separating biological molecules includes a chip (10) on which there is an electrophoresis separation microchannel (16). At the start of the channel there is an isoelectric focusing section (14) containing a gel having a pH gradient. Molecules to be separated are placed in the focusing section (14) and move to an equilibrium position under the influence of an electric field. The electrophoretic state of the molecules is then changed, and a high voltage potential applied across the entire length of the focusing and separation sections. The molecules migrate under the influence of the electric field from the focusing section into the separation section where their position and velocity are tracked. From a knowledge of position and velocity, a user can determine both charge/mass ratio and isoelectric equilibrium point for each molecule. The gels can be replicated in the chip to allow parallel analysis, and hence comparisons, to take place.

Abstract: A printable form is disclosed having a first layer including a detachable portion in the form of a wristband with an incorporated electronic identifier. A second layer is bonded to the first layer by an adhesive and has labels die cut into it. The bond between the first layer and the die cut labels is a releaseable bond allowing the labels and the adhesive contained thereon to be removed from the first layer.
Abstract: A method of fabricating miniature quadrupole electrostatic mass filter has been previously described. The electrodes are metallised cylinders, mounted in grooves etched in oxidised silicon substrates, which are held apart at the correct spacing by cylindrical spacer rods. This invention concerns an ion source mounted on extensions of the spacer rods, which project beyond the mass filter. The ion source consists of a cold-cathode electron emitter, which emits electrons with energies sufficient to cause impact ionisation, and electrostatic optics suitable for coupling the ion flux into the mass filter. Methods of constructing a single self-aligned electron source and a similar dual source are described. Arrangements for mounting the electron source and the ion coupling lens so that the electron and ion beams travel at right angles to one another for efficient separation are described.
Abstract: The present invention provides a fitment assembly for a container including a spout connected in fluid communication to the container, a cap sealing an end of the spout, the cap having a pierceable portion, and a piercer for piercing the cap at the pierceable portion to permit fluid communication from the container through the spout and piercer.
Abstract: A limited electronic system and method are provided for automatically shutting down equipment when an account associated with purchased or leased equipment falls into arrears. The system includes a control center (connected to a machine) with a screen display, means for entering a code, and a controller. The controller has a disabling program that shuts down the machine after a predetermined interval, such as time. Because the program automates the shut-down when no (timed) interval is in place, the user must obtain a “re-set code” from a non-user—i.e., the financing entity, the equipment supplier, the account manager, or other entity—and enter it into the system to set the next interval so the machine remains operational. The re-set code is generated by the machine. The non-user at a location remote from the machine receives or generates parallel re-set codes.
