  • Patent number: 6893878
Abstract: A centrifugal spectrometer has a solid rotor (10) formed within which there are cavities or blades (12). In use, each blade is filled with a buffer solution, and a sample to be separated is placed in a sample well (32) at the end of a separation channel (24). The rotor is spun at a controlled velocity and, at the same time, a controlled potential difference is applied along the length of the blade. The blade shape causes the resultant electric field to vary as a function of radial distance. The sample separates out into bands, which move along the channel (24) under the combined influence of the centrifugal force and the varying electric field. The bands focus at differing equilibrium points according to their charge/mass ratios. The band positions are determined by a readout head (36). The dynamic range of the device may be controlled by altering the rotational velocity and the voltages that are applied.

  • Patent number: 6890365
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing particulate from a particulate-laden gas stream are disclosed. The apparatus and method include a reverse-flow process for cleaning filter bags with a cleaning gas stream. The process includes: flowing a particulate-laden gas stream to one side of the filter bags; stopping the particulate-laden gas stream to at least one filter bag; popping the filter bag with a reverse-flow of a cleaning gas stream to remove dust from the bag; and finally re-introducing the particulate-laden gas stream to the recently cleaned filter bag at a low velocity/flow rate to prevent small particles from blowing through the recently cleaned filter bag. The apparatus and method allow the particulate-laden gas stream and cleaning gas stream to be controlled independently.

  • Patent number: 6882124
Abstract: The present invention provides a sensor for an adjustable system of a vehicle. The sensor is utilized to facilitate monitoring of adjustment positions with respect to a reference in the system. The sensor comprises a mechanical interface that allows for the input of movement and an electrical device coupled to the mechanical interface that is capable of changing an electrical signal in relation to the movement of the mechanical interface. The electrical signal, which is proportional to the movement input to the mechanical interface, is utilized by a control unit for control purposes, such as to control the positioning of vehicle control pedals, control the positioning of an adjustable seat of a vehicle, or to control the temperature adjustment in a vehicle HVAC system.

  • Patent number: 6876663
Abstract: A data switching device has ingress routers and egress routers interconnected by a switching matrix controlled by a controller. Each ingress router maintains one or more virtual output queues for each egress router. The switching matrix itself maintains a head-of queue buffer of cells which are to be transmitted. Each of these queues corresponds to one of the virtual output queues, and the cells stored in the switching matrix are replicated from the cells queuing in the respective virtual output queues. Thus, when it is determined that a connection is to be made between a given input and output of the switching matrix, a cell suitable for transmission along that connection is already available to the switching matrix. Upon receipt of a new cell by one of the ingress routers, the cell is stored in one of the virtual output queues of the ingress router corresponding to the egress router for the cell, and also written the corresponding head of queue buffer, if that buffer has space.
