Abstract: This invention relates to an aerial burning and fire control unit which is to be carried by a helicopter, but is separate and independent of the helicopter so that the helicopter is in no way encumbered by the unit. When carried by the helicopter, the unit is received within the landing gear of the helicopter so that the helicopter may land while carrying the unit. On the other hand, the unit may be immediately jettisoned, when necessary by releasing the cargo hook. The unit has the dual function both as an aerial torch for controlled burning and as a water dump, the tank assembly of the unit being suitable for both supplying fuel to the burners and carrying water for dump purposes.
Abstract: A tray for supporting a taco in an upright position. The tray may be formed by molding or die forming. The midportion of the tray sides contacts the taco to hold it upright, while the ends of the tray are enlarged to inhibit tipping over of the tray and taco.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for forming a multi-compartmented tray from a sheet material without tearing or bowing. At least a portion of one compartment, and preferably the entire compartment, is formed in advance of other compartments. The apparatus for doing so comprises a preformer on the male die for forming the first compartment before the rest of the male die engages the workpiece.
Abstract: A blank for a carton for packing bicycles and other articles is formed from a rectangular piece of sheet material such as corrugated paperboard so as to save waste material. It is cut and scored so that it may be preliminarily formed into a tube to be shipped flat to the packager and, as it is being erected, so that integral portions and parts may be folded into strut columns extending from wall to wall in two directions to prevent the contained article from tilting or migrating inside the container during shipment and to strengthen the carton against the pressures of stacking and handling by clamp trucks and the like.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for use in making non-woven fabrics by wet-laying an aqueous dispersion. The apparatus and method screens, separates and remover fiber defects and foreign matter above a prescribed size from other dispersion fibers. The apparatus includes a housing having an inlet and several outlets, an accelerator within the housing for creating relative movement between the dispersion fluid and fibers to axially align at least some of the fibers in the direction of dispersion flow to disperse those fibers in the dispersion and a separator within the housing for separating bundles and lumps above a prescribed size from other dispersion fibers. The housing discharges the bundles and lumps above the prescribed size from the process at one outlet, and passes the other dispersion fibers through to another outlet for use in the wet-laying process.
Abstract: A reinforced corrugated paper product and container made thereof are disclosed having one or more reinforcing strands placed between the outer liner and the corrugated medium in one or more curvilinear paths. Also disclosed is a method of making the reinforced corrugated paper product.
Abstract: Treatment of high yield wood pulp which has ether extractives of greater than about 3.0% at temperatures of about 105.degree. C. or higher for at least about 16 hours followed by fluffing of the heat treated pulp results in a relatively inexpensive absorbent for oil spills and the like. The oil is readily recovered from the absorbent or the oil and absorbent may be burned as fuel without separation.
Abstract: Treatment of dissolving pulp derived from wood with small quantities of C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 carboxylic acids and subsequent storage of the treated pulp, under conditions where little acid evaporation can occur, for periods of about two hours or more results in a product which has more uniform reactivity toward standard activation techniques in subsequent esterification reactions which produce known cellulose esters. At certain concentrations conventional activation techniques may be dispensed with.
Abstract: High solids mastics comprising a curable liquid resin binder, granular mineral filler and an organo titanate coupling agent, processes and apparatus for their use in continuous filling of defects in cellulosic boards, as well as, articles of manufacture produced therefrom are disclosed. The resin binder in fluid condition may either be a high solids latex emulsion or certain selected curable liquid resin systems.
Abstract: A circular saw of improved vibration characteristics in which the saw teeth are arranged in an odd number plurality of segments and wherein each segment includes a relatively rigid zone and a relatively flexible zone obtained by varying tooth spacing. Also, the tooth-to-tooth spacing is preferably randomly varied to reduce harmonic vibration.
Abstract: A dispenser carton capable of being formed from a single-piece paperboard blank is disclosed. The blank is suitable for erection into a rigid, rectangular container having a measuring chamber therein which is provided with a "locked-in", slide-valve discharge opening at the dispensing end of the chamber which is reclosable.
Abstract: A combination shipping container and compartmented display box capable of being formed from a single-piece paperboard as corrugated board blank is disclosed. The blank is suitable for erection into a rigid, multi-layered container having a plurality of compartments formed by interlocking divider walls and a top or cover portion which is separable from the bottom portion defining the open top, compartmented display box. Means are provided for separating the divider walls which form the compartments from the blank and, for separating the top or cover portion of the container from the display box.
