  • Patent number: 6813756
Abstract: With an automatic layout method, a first line having a first line width is generated in a prescribed direction. A second line having a second line width and extending at an oblique angle with respect to the first line is generated, so that the second line terminates at an end portion of the first line with an overlapped area. One or more VIA patterns are read out of a database according to the shape of the overlapped area. The VIA patterns are placed in the overlapped area, so that one of the VIA patterns is located at the intersection of the center lines of the first and second lines. The VIA pattern is a combination of parallelograms, including squares and rectangles.

  • Patent number: 6813750
Abstract: A logic circuit design equipment and a logic circuit design method include analyzing input states of all of first cells, respectively, analyzing leakage currents of all of first cells in a case where each first cell is high Vth cell showing a small leakage current at a low speed operation and low Vth cell showing a large leakage current at a high speed operation, respectively, and substituting the first cells for second cells within a range satisfying a timing restriction. Herein, a threshold of the second cell is different from a threshold of the first cell.

  • Patent number: 6809425
Abstract: A nonvolatile reprogrammable switch for use in a PLD or FPGA has a nonvolatile memory cell connected to the gate of an MOS transistor, which is in a well, with the terminals of the MOS transistor connected to the source of the signal and to the circuit. The nonvolatile memory cell is of a split gate type having a first region and a second region, with a channel therebetween. The cell has a floating gate positioned over a first portion of the channel, which is adjacent to the first region and a control gate positioned over a second portion of the channel, which is adjacent to the second region. The second region is connected to the gate of the MOS transistor. The cell is programmed by injecting electrons from the channel onto the floating gate by hot electron injection mechanism. The cell is erased by Fowler-Nordheim tunneling of the electrons from the floating gate to the control gate. As a result, no high voltage is ever applied to the second region during program or erase.

  • Patent number: 6808884
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention there is provided a new class of sterically demanding metallo-intercalators. These compounds intercalate between bases in a duplex polynucleotide, but only where the bases are not fully complementary, for example, where there is a base-pair mismatch. The compounds are sufficiently sterically demanding that intercalation between bases in fully complementary duplexes does not occur to a significant degree. These mismatch intercalators are useful for detecting DNA and RNA defects, for diagnosing disorders characterized by the presence or increase in DNA and/or RNA defects, and for treating such disorders. Further, the compounds are capable of catalyzing photolytic cleavage of nucleic acids at relatively long wavelengths, and under normal sunlight.

  • Patent number: 6806543
Abstract: Microfluidic apparatus including integrated porous substrate/sensors that may be used for detecting targeted biological and chemical molecules and compounds. In one aspect, upper and lower microfluidic channels are defined in respective halves of a substrate, which are sandwiched around a porous membrane upon assembly. In another aspect, the upper and lower channels are formed such that a portion of the lower channel passes beneath a portion of the upper channel to form a cross-channel area, wherein the membrane is disposed between the two channels. In various embodiments, one or more porous membranes are disposed proximate to corresponding cross-channel areas defined by one or more upper and lower channels. The porous membrane may also have sensing characteristics, such that it produces a change in an optical and/or electronic characteristic.

  • Patent number: 6804348
Abstract: A hybrid circuit models a plurality of attributes of a communication system including a subscriber line coupled to a line interface circuit. The plurality of attributes includes subscriber line impedance, and impedance of a coupling transformer. The attributes are based on other factors, such as whether or not bridge taps exist at or near the line interface circuit on the subscriber line. The plurality of attributes are modeled by a specific arrangement of resistive and capacitive elements to substantially duplicate the collective transforming effects of the attributes on a transmission signal being sent out on the subscriber line. The transmission signal is transformed and provided to an output, where it is subtracted from a composite signal representing a combination of the actual transformed transmission signal and a receive signal. The subtraction yields an isolated receive signal, which is later processed to recover the full receive signal.

  • Patent number: 6804428
Abstract: This invention provides a method and apparatus for spectral power monitoring by use of a polarization diversity scheme. In the present invention, a multi-wavelength optical signal is first decomposed into first and second polarization components, and the second polarization component is subsequently rotated by 90-degrees, prior to impinging onto a diffraction grating that provides a higher diffraction efficiency for the first polarization component. The diffraction grating separates the first and second polarization components by wavelength respectively into first and second sets of optical beams, impinging onto an array of optical power sensors. The inventive optical spectral power monitoring apparatus thus is able to minimize the insertion loss, while providing enhanced spectral resolution.

  • Patent number: 6796957
Abstract: The invention provides systems containing a sterile container for aspiration, filtering, treating and reinjection into a subject of a bodily fluid in a sterile environment. The systems are particularly designed to facilitate transfection of cells within the sterile container by gene therapy molecules and reinjection of the transfected cells into the donor at controlled depth in precisely controlled volumes such as is useful for revascularization of ischemic cardiac tissue. For injection, a pressure actuator, preferably hand-held, applies force to liquids held within the sterile container in precisely controlled increments, thereby expressing liquids through a hollow needle or injection catheter in precisely controlled microvolumes. The invention systems include a hand-held injection device with audible cues that correspond to an operator-selected injection volume and/or audible cues that correspond to needle penetration depth selected by the operator.
