  • Patent number: 7712651
Abstract: A method of processing heated metal logs in a metal extrusion process. The remainder of each log is attached to the succeeding log. Specifically, the abutted ends of the two log segments are aligned with a saw. The saw is actuated to simultaneously remove material from both of the abutted ends. The cut ends are friction welded together through relative rotation of the log segments. The process creates a heated log column that is effectively endless, eliminating log remainders.

  • Patent number: 7714537
Abstract: There is disclosed a system and method for transferring power without requiring direct electrical conductive contacts. There is provided a primary unit having a power supply and a substantially laminar charging surface having at least one conductor that generates an electromagnetic field when a current flows therethrough and having an charging area defined within a perimeter of the surface, the at least one conductor being arranged such that electromagnetic field lines generated by the at least one conductor are substantially parallel to the plane of the surface or at least subtend an angle of 45° or less to the surface within the charging area; and at least one secondary device including at least one conductor that may be wound about a core. Because the electromagnetic field is spread over the charging area and is generally parallel or near-parallel thereto, coupling with flat secondary devices such as mobile telephones and the like is significantly improved in various orientations thereof.

  • Patent number: 7712515
Abstract: A municipal casting frame is provided with cast nut retainers that allow the frame to be used with or without a bolt-down cover. The frame defines one or more bolt holes of sufficient dimension to allow free passage of the cover bolts. The undersurface of the frame defines a cast nut retainer adapted to securely receive a nut. In one embodiment, the nut retainer includes protrusions that permit the nut to be snap-fitted into the nut retainer. In another embodiment, the nut retainer is configured to frictionally receive the nut in a wedging interaction. The present invention also provides a method for manufacturing a frame with integral cast nut retainers. The method generally includes the steps of (a) providing a core corresponding in shape to the bolt hole and the cast nut retainer, the cast nut retainer being configured to receive and retain a nut, (b) casting a frame in a mold about the core, (c) removing the cast frame from the mold and (d) removing the core from the cast frame.

  • Patent number: 7708659
Abstract: An archery broadhead including a ferrule and at least one replaceable blade, each including interlocking features that securely lock at least the forward portion of the blade to the ferrule. The ferrule defines a blade slot bounded by a land and an inclined surface overhanging a portion of the land. The land and inclined surface form a locking pocket. The blade includes a cutting edge and a locking member. When the broadhead is secured to an arrow, the locking member wedges within the locking pocket to secure the forward portion of the blade to the ferrule. A method is provided including: metal injection molding a ferrule to define a locking pocket, sintering the ferrule, and joining a blade including an locking member with the ferrule so that the locking member wedges within the ferrule locking pocket.
