  • Patent number: 4474229
Abstract: The invention relates to air heaters and provides a means by which the operation of heat exchangers therein can be sustained at an optimum efficiency. The invention proposes the incorporation of a preheater (16) for incoming unheated air which can be selectively thermally coupled to heated air in an outlet duct (12) from the heat exchanger (4). During normal operation the heated air bypasses the thermal coupling, but when the temperature of the incoming unheated air is particularly low, the coupling is made and the incoming air thereby preheated to ensure efficient operation of the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4471703
Abstract: A combustion system and method for a coal-fired furnace in which a separator-nozzle assembly divides a coal-air mixture into a first stream containing most of the coal and a second stream containing a much smaller quantity of coal. Another nozzle is provided which receives another mixture of coal and air and discharges same in a combustion supporting relation to said streams. At start up and low loads, the separator-nozzle assembly discharges a majority of the coal and air in a combustion supporting relationship and the other nozzle discharges a relatively low quantity of coal and air. At high load conditions, the other nozzle discharges a majority of the coal and air while the coal and air discharging from the separator-nozzle assembly is kept at relatively low values. A splitter is provided for receiving a coal-air mixture from a mill and splitting it into two separate mixtures.

  • Patent number: 4472058
Abstract: An injection assembly for an injection molding machine in which an auger is disposed in a bore formed in the molding machine and defines therewith an annular passage for receiving the material to be injected. A valve assembly is operatively connected to the auger and includes internal passages communicating with the annular passage and adapted to communicate with the mold. A sealing ring extends around the valve with the outer diameter of the sealing ring being in a sealing relation to the bore downstream of the annular passage. The inner diameter of the ring is slightly greater than the outer diameter of the valve to permit rotation of the valve relative to the sealing ring. As a result, upon rotation of the auger and the valve, the material is advanced along the annular passage and the internal passages while the sealing ring remains stationary and provides the sealing function.

  • Patent number: 4456285
Abstract: A longitudinally adjustable ski pole is provided with two tube sections arranged telescopically movable into each other and are provided with a latch and several catches. When shortening the ski pole a spring is tensioned. An extending of the ski pole in longitudinal direction is caused by the tensioned spring. The switching element is arranged, for instance, at the rear side of the hand grip of the ski pole. The latch is supported at the outer of the tubes and the catches are located at the inner of the two tubes. The catches are formed as a through hole through the tube and comprise a supporting shoulder provided with a supporting face. The latch is arranged at a tilting lever which is spring biased and operationally connected to a switching member. The entire mechanism for the longitudinal adjustment of the ski pole is arranged in the grip section of the ski pole. This grip section can quite easily be mounted to the common ski pole tubes.

  • Patent number: 4450071
Abstract: An adjustable classifier for the separation of fluid-suspended solid particles in industrial processes and by which the relative proportion of acceptably fine and unacceptably coarse solid particles may be regulated. Adjustability is achieved in an otherwise static classifier structure in which a fluid stream of multi-sized particles is passed through a curved path, by the provision of interleaved fingers movable from a retracted inactive position against an outer boundary surface defining the curved path to an extended position into the stream to re-entrain all particles moved against the outer boundary surface back into the fluid stream. Fine particles so re-entrained will pass from the classifier and relatively coarse particles will be rejected by centrifugal action. The invention also contemplates an adjustable plate member by which the velocity of the fluid stream may be regulated independently of the aforementioned fingers.
