Abstract: A package assembly in which two plate members define two planer surfaces disposed in an overlapping, engaging relationship. One of the plate members has a protruding portion which, together with the other plate member, defines an enclosure for the article to be packaged. A flange extends around the margins of the other plate member to define a cavity for receiving the protrusion of an adjacent plate member when the package assemblies are disposed in a stacked, or nested, relationship.
Abstract: A cable in which a core is surrounded by a plurality of bundles of wire conductors. Each bundle is formed by a plurality of wire strands twisted around a central conductor which is wrapped by a strand of dielectric material.
Abstract: A spade lug for connecting an electrical conductor to an electrical terminal in which two legs extend from a base member in a spaced parallel relation. An extension is formed on one of the legs and extends at two angles thereto in two different planes.
Abstract: A cable in which a dielectric core is surrounded by a plurality of bundles of wire strands with the wire strands forming each bundle being twisted in a first direction and the bundles being twisted around the solid conductor in a direction opposite the first direction. Insulation means extend around the bundles of wire strands. A pair of cables configured in the above manner are provided to carry the positive and negative signals between a power source and a load.
Abstract: A signal cable assembly comprising a pair of cables adapted to respectively carry the positive and negative audio signals between a power source and a load. Each cable consists of a first conductor formed by a plurality of bundles of wire strands twisted together to form a single conductor, and a second conductor in the form of a solid conductor having a diameter larger than the diameter of each wire strand. Insulation sleeves extend around the conductors for at least a portion of the length thereof.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically focussing a specimen image in an electron microscope. Excitation currents for an objective lens of the microscope are previously determined in accordance with predetermined magnifications in one-to-one correspondence. When one of the magnifications is selected, the objective lens is automatically excited with the current corresponding to the magnification, whereby the specimen image is automatically properly focussed.
Abstract: A boiler tube rupture testing apparatus and method in which two segments are inserted into a tube section which sections together form a disc having a outer diameter slightly less than the inner diameter of the tube section. A creep rupture machine is connected to the individual segments for exerting to oppositely directed forces on the segments, respectively. The forces can be selected to simulate the hoop stress applied to the tube section due to internal pressure and can be maintained on the tube section until rupture occurs which will lead to as accurate estimation of the life of the tube.
Abstract: A table lamp comprising a base, an arm upstanding from the base, an illuminating bulb positioned at the upper end of the arm to provide illumination, the arm further comprising a plurality of substantially similar segments, means for rotatably joining adjacent segments to one another and commutator means between adjacent segments for transferring electrical power for the lamp from one segment to the adjacent segment, and means within each segment for connecting one commutator means to an adjacent commutator means to provide continuity of current to the lamp.

Abstract: A fluidized bed boiler and a high temperature separator used therein. Each separator consists of a horizontal S-shaped passage formed in a casted block and having an inlet for receiving flue gases from the boiler. A divider wall divides a portion of the passage into a dense-phase gas bypass and a vertical-flow ash collecting chamber. As a result flyash of a diameter (50 .mu.m) can be separated, and the combustion cycle efficiency can reach over 98%.
Abstract: An expansion seal assembly in which a corrugated plate extends between two members that are subjected to differential thermal expansion and contraction. An expansion joint connects the upper and lower edges of the corrugated plate with the two members respectively to accommodate differential thermal expansion and contraction between two members in an axial direction. The expansion joint acts as hinges to accommodate the lateral movement.
Abstract: A steam-water separator in which a pair of risers are disposed in tandem within a shell member. The steam-water mixture to be separated is introduced into the lower riser where it is discharged through arcuate arms onto the inner wall of the shell to effect a first stage separation. The remaining portion of the mixture rises upwardly in the shell and passes through a second stage riser. The latter mixture portion discharges through an additional series of arcuate arms against the inner wall of the shell to effect a second stage separation.
Abstract: A method of dyeing an optical article in which the article is immersed in a dyeing solution which is heated and subjected to ultrasonic energy. The article is immersed for a time span commensurate with the desired tint or hue after which the article is cleaned and dried. As a result, eyeglass lenses made of a plastic material, or mineral glass, can be produced at a reproducible quality of dye and color gradient.
Abstract: A specimen moving or manipulating apparatus for an electron beam apparatus which comprises a specimen holder extending slideably in the direction orthogonal to the electron beam axis and mounted on a lens column or barrel defining an electron beam path rotatably relative to the lens column in a plane orthogonal to the electron beam axis, and a lever mounted on the lens column at a position in the vicinity of the distal end of the specimen holder and extending in the direction intersecting the specimen holder, the lever being adapted to move slideably the specimen holder, and a coupling member interposed between the lever member and the specimen holder for rotatable engagement with both of them to thereby operatively coupling together the lever member and the specimen holder. The coupling member has a sharp apex edge and a bottom surface and is so disposed that the apex edge bears against a lateral side of the lever member while the bottom surface is rollingly engaged with the tip end of the specimen holder.
Abstract: A system for viewing an infant in the rear seat of the vehicle utilizing a mirror mounted in the back seat of the vehicle which is adjustable so that it reflects the image of the infant to the rear view mirror for viewing by the driver of the vehicle.
Abstract: A catalytic converter in which exhaust gases to be treated are introduced into a housing containing a catalytic material. Air is introduced into the lower portion of the housing to fluidize the catalytic material and promote the reaction between the material and the exhaust gases to remove poisonous elements such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from the gases.
Abstract: A speaker or baffle system for speakers which is installed in a well of a vehicle to form an enclosure for the volume of air in said well. At least one loudspeaker extends through an opening formed in the baffle in communication with said well. The baffle can form the upper portion of a full enclosure that fits into said well or can be supported by a pair of side panels extending from the floor of the well.
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for supporting and shoring building foundations and walls in which one or more pilings are disposed at a point outside the perimeter of a structure. The pilings are driven into the supporting strata to a point determined by said strata's resistance to a predetermined amount of driving force. The pilings thus disposed provide a foundation for the subsequent attachment and securing of the apparatus of the present invention which functions to raise and support the foundation or wall to a predetermined level. The apparatus of the present invention includes a lifting arm for engaging the foundation, a sleeve portion for guiding the pilings, a removably secured lifting saddle, and a hydraulically operated jack for applying a force between the saddle and the pilings to raise the foundation a predetermined distance.
Abstract: The present invention is a foundation piling system in which pilings are used which support a foundation system in soil having a varied composition and moisture content which eliminates the need for drilling a hole in the ground to receive pilings formed of steel pipes. The pilings extend into concrete grade beams forming a portion of a monolithic system including a concrete slab.
