  • Patent number: 5297358
Abstract: A method for applying a liquid to a crop (8;13) according to the invention comprises of moving a body (2) containing the liquid over the crop (8;13) such that the body (2) comes at least partially into liquid transferring contact with the crop (8;13). Plants (13;8;23) not for treatment with the liquid may be shielded from the body (2). Another liquid may simultaneously be applied to the shielded plants. The method is preferably performed using a device comprising a displaceable frame (1;21;31) having arranged thereon at least one liquid transfer body (2) connected to a container (16) for the liquid. The body (2) may have a flexible part (12), for instance a textile material. The device may further comprise means (7;17;27) for shielding plants (8;13;23) not for treatment with the liquid, and liquid distributing means debouching inside the shielding means and connected to a container for another liquid. • Patent number: 5297645
Abstract: An industrial lift truck having a body which includes a battery container cover, spaced straddle legs projecting from the body and a lift mast which moves along the straddle legs. The lift mast is moved along the straddle legs by a mechanism operated by a battery which is held in a container. The container is supported on a platform resting on the straddle legs and is moved along the straddle legs between a rear stored position and a forward open position by a hydraulic cylinder and piston. A guide arrangement for the battery container is located below the cover and is disposed internally of the end walls of the battery container to contact the inner surfaces of the end walls to direct the battery container during movement into the rear stored position and to prevent movement of the battery container transversely of the straddle legs when it is in the rear stored position.

  • Patent number: 5297882
Abstract: A brush dispenser designed to emit a controlled amount of liquid through and out the ends of or other opening in the middle set of bristles. Selection of the number of bristles being used as conductors can be achieved by adjusting the shaft to which cams are connected. Control of the amount of liquid flowing through the selected bristles can also be achieved by adjustment of the shaft to which the cams are connected. The liquid is contained in a removable container in the handle of the brush. Finger pressure on the removable container activates the liquid flow. A cutout in the handle allows the fingers to contact the liquid-holding container.

  • Patent number: 5297743
Abstract: Chocolate is ground in order to obtain a very small average particle size. A determined viscosity is necessary for further processing. In order to keep as small as possible the fraction with particle size lying above the desired value and having an adverse effect on the taste of the final product, according to the invention the process mass is circulated in a cycle incorporating a grinding device and a ball mill. This has the result of accelerating the grinding process and reducing the inconsistency in the distribution of the particle size.

  • Patent number: 5295379
Abstract: A vertical piercer/elongator mill includes a mill housing having a base, an open top and an open interior defined by a plurality of vertically extending mill posts and interconnecting side portions. A cylindrically shaped bottom cradle supports a rotatable bottom roll and is fitted in the mill housing through the open top thereof to assume an operable position within the open interior of the housing. A cylindrically shaped top cradle supports a rotatable top roll and is also received within the open interior of the mill housing through the open top of the housing. Vertical adjustment apparatus in the form of screw jacks and balance cylinders are associated with the upper and lower cradles to provide vertical movement of the cradles within the mill housing to establish a selected rolling gorge.

  • Patent number: 5295686
Abstract: An improved set of golf clubs has iron club heads in a correlated set such that the weight of longer shafted, less lofted clubs is concentrated more towards the heel of the head, while the weight of the shorter shafted, more lofted clubs is concentrated more towards the toe of the head. When viewed face on, with the sole of the club on a level surface, it will be noted that the vertical plane of the center of gravity of each individual head shall be shifted towards the toe or the heel, as the case may be, with such weight concentrations. The result is a set of correlated golf club heads which: (a) have less inertial drag in the longer, less lofted clubs, (b) have more inertial drag in the shorter, more lofted clubs, and (c) can utilize the gear effect phenomenon inherent in golf clubs more effectively.

  • Patent number: 5296915
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and an apparatus for easily controlling the advancing direction of an excavating machine without causing the excavating machine to largely trace in a zigzag way. The direction control is done by the steps of mounting a reflector on a head portion of a shield body so as to receive a light beam directed along an imaginary reference line, mounting a target on a tail portion of the shield body so as to receive the reflected light beam from the reflector, controlling means for correcting the direction so that the reflected light beam may be irradiated at an objective position within the target, and thereby controlling the advancing direction of the excavating machine so that a subjective portion at the front end of the head portion may follow along the reference line.

  • Patent number: 5295689
Abstract: A golf club head has a pyramid-shaped truss located within an interior of the club head. The truss employs a triangular base placed directly behind a club head striking plate, with a plurality of struts extending from the base to converge at an apex at the tail of the club head. Two of the struts are preferably affixed to an inner side of a club head sole. The struts may be tubular or solid. The truss prevents distortion of the club head at head-ball impact, and also reduces the tendency of the club head to twist about its center of gravity when contact is made with the ball. The truss is particularly applicable to hollow, metal "wood" club heads, which typically must be designed with thinner striking plates. The truss also facilitates manufacture of composite graphite club heads by inexpensive injection molding techniques without compromising club head strength.

  • Patent number: 5293963
Abstract: A forklift truck having a drive section and a load section which is vertically movable relative to the drive section. A parallelogram hinge connects the drive section to the load section and the load section has a front wall adjacent to a rear wall of the drive section. A cover rests on the upper edge of the rear wall of the drive section and has an edge adjacent to the upper edge of the front wall of the load section. The upper portion of the front wall of the load section is formed with a convex curve toward the drive section. When the load section is raised and lowered on the parallelogram hinge an essentially constant distance is maintained between the edge of the top cover and the upper edge of the front wall of the load section.

  • Patent number: 5292505
Abstract: Sulphated vinyl polymers such as sulphated polyvinylalcohol, sulphated copolymers of (meth)acrylic acid and vinylalcohol, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, have an antiviral effect against human immunodeficiency virus and may therefore be used as a therapeutic agent for treating retrovirus infections like AIDS and AIDS-related diseases. Their antiviral activity is apparently based on inhibition of virus adsorption; their inhibitory effect on giant cell formation is stronger than that of dextran sulphate.

  • Patent number: 5292281
Abstract: A vertical soffit vent in which a length of frieze board is affixed adjacent a length of soffit molding, with a unique arrangement of vents--volutes--in between. More particularly, a length of frieze board having particularly shaped and dimensioned volutes therein is attached or integrally molded to an adjacent length of molding by means of a solid spacer strip. (Alternatively, the spacer strip may be eliminated and replaced with protruding teeth on the frieze board.) The entire combination may be integrally molded. The volutes in the frieze board are contained in the upper half of the frieze board, in and around the solid spacer strip. The combined vertical soffit vent is intended for mounting under the eaves of roof constructions, and permits enhanced air flow into the attic area by means of the uniquely shaped volutes. The outlet ends of the volutes are covered with an insect screen.
