Endless roller chains entrained around the sprockets and a motor driving one of the sprockets to rotate the other sprockets to move the endless roller chains. Cable support members carried by the roller chains having elongated arms to retain the cable on the reeler.
Abstract: A noningestible separation barrier having one or more pores or micropores (of one or more diameters) therein, with the pores or micropores being initially plugged with one or more materials selected for its/their solubility and/or integrity characteristics relative to certain environmental conditions. Ordinarily, the pores or micropores of the noningestible separation barrier are initially filled with at least one material having greater erodibility, under a given environmental condition, than the material constituting the separation barrier itself.

Abstract: A device for working the ground comprising a frame and a plurality of discs. Each disc is rotatably mounted on a shaft which is provided on the free end of a pivotable standing shaft. In order to prevent jamming of the discs by earth thrown up by adjacent discs, each standing shaft is placed on the concave side of its associated disc. The shafts are inclined relative to the ground, thus providing an improved working of the ground. The spacing between adjacent discs is adjustable as is the orientation of the discs.
Abstract: Erosion resistant stopper rod for steel casting having an elongated body of a first refractory material and a sleeve of a second refractory material having elevated erosion resistance characteristics. The sleeve may be copressed with the stopper rod body or separately formed and cemented thereto. The sleeve is positioned around the stopper rod in the region where contact with the slagline occurs. The erosion resistant material of the sleeve is selected from the group consisting of zirconia, magnesia, zirconia-graphite and magnesia-graphite.
Abstract: A panel assembly including a plurality of roof deck panels assembled in side-by-side relationship and secured to roof supports with each panel including a plurality of parallel and spaced apart perforated flat sections. Each flat section is separated from its adjacent flat section by a rib section, and has a width as measured in the plane of the flat section at least three times and preferably five times greater than the width of the rib section. Lengths of insulation are positioned between adjacent ribs and a wire mesh spacer is positioned within the space between each perforated flat section and the insulation to maintain the insulation in spaced relationship to the flat section. Insulation cover plates may also be included between adjacent ribs.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for correcting the axial coma in the image created by an electron microscope without requiring skillfulness or any other peripheral device. The microscope is equipped with a beam wobbler and brings the voltage center or current center into the middle of the final image by controlling the deflection coils. The amount of the deviation of the voltage center or current center from the coma-free axis is previously found and stored in an area of a memory. This beam is tilted by the amount of the deviation read from the memory. For this purpose, a deflecting signal corresponding to the amount of the deviation is produced to the deflection coils. Therefore, once the deviation is found, the axial coma can be corrected simply and routinely by correcting the beam tilt by the amount of deviation after the voltage center or current center is brought into the middle of the final image.
Abstract: A furnace for high temperature, for example a glass furnace, is insulated thermally by arranging layers of material on the interior wall of the furnace shell. On the layers ceramic fibre material and a heat reflecting surface layer are arranged. According to the invention, the heat reflecting surface layer is arranged by a substance containing silicon. By subjecting the furnace to great heat and cooling it rapidly thereafter, a heat reflection is obtained in the micro-structure of the ceramic fibre. The substance may for example be water-glass. According to the invention, the fibre material is arranged in vertical blocks of trapezium form, then pressed and strapped up. After all blocks have been placed, one removes the strapping so that the blocks expand.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring tubular products from one mill to another including a connecting table having the shape of a reverse curve. The table includes a base and two spaced apart walls attached to the base defining a passageway between the base and the sidewalls. A diverter is associated with the connecting table to divert metal product in a hot working state from a first conveying table onto the connecting table leading to a second conveying table. The connecting table preferably is associated with a welding and forming mill and a stretch reducing mill.

Abstract: An emergency braking system for a vehicle driven by an electric motor. The vehicle includes a manually operable accelerator lever, a displacement detector for detecting displacement of the accelerator lever, an emergency detector disposed in a region of the accelerator lever for detecting an operating force applied to the accelerator lever, a braking device, and a control unit for receiving detection signals from the displacement detector and emergency detector, and outputting control signals to the electric motor and braking device. The control unit outputs the control signal to the braking device to brake the vehicle when the operating force detected by the emergency detector exceeds a predetermined value. In addition or as alternative to the emergency detector, the vehicle may include an emergency detector disposed in a driver's foot rest region for detecting a treading force of the driver.
Abstract: A frame structure for a working vehicle having crawler running devices includes main frames extending longitudinally along right and left sides of a vehicle body. The crawler running devices have track frames extending below and along the main frames, respectively. An oil tank is disposed between the main frames for rigidly interconnecting forward positions of the main frames and rigidly interconnecting the track frames. The frame structure includes an engine supporting frame for supporting an engine rearwardly of the oil tank. The engine supporting frame is connected to the oil tank through a reinforcing beam, and is curved downwardly with an intermediate portion thereof lying substantially level with the bottom of the oil tank.
Abstract: A steering mechanism for an articulated vehicle having a first section and a second section connected by an articulation joint. The steering mechanism includes an annular member connected to the first section and a moveable steering plate slideably mounted on the second section. The annular plate and the steering plate are connected by chains and a pair of opposed piston and cylinder devices are mounted on the second section and connected to the steering plate to move the steering plate and the chains to adjust the position of the annular plate to rotate the first section of the vehicle relative to the second section of the vehicle about the articulation joint between the sections.
Abstract: A batch charger for a molten glass furnace comprising a stationary hopper having an inlet opening at the upper end and an outlet opening at the lower end. A reciprocable charger plate located below the outlet opening of the hopper to supply material from the hopper to the furnace. The charger plate has a bottom wall and upstanding sidewalls at the edges of the bottom wall which are outwardly spaced from the sidewalls of the hopper. An adjustable seal is attached to the rear wall of the hopper with a lower edge located below the lower edge of the rear wall of the hopper and depending flapper members are pivotally attached to the front wall of the hopper at each edge to prevent loose material from passing between the sidewalls of the charger plate and the sidewalls of the hopper when the charger plate is reciprocated.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for learning the neutral position of vehicle steering angle, in which first neutral position decision means decides that the steering shaft is at a neutral position when a running speed detector detects that the vehicle speed is not less than a predetermined threshold level, that the difference in peripheral speed between the right and left drive wheels is smaller than a predetermined first straight-running threshold value and also when a steering shaft reference position sensor continues to detect a reference position of the steering shaft for at least a first count time. The vehicle steering angle is computed on the basis of the angular displacement from the neutral position thus learned.
Abstract: A method for the rapid identification and differentiation of HSV-1 and/or HSV-2 with fluorescein-conjugated Helix pomatia lectin. Clinical specimens are processed, with centrifugation, in pre-prepared shell vials of cell culture, with subsequent supplementation and 20 hour incubation (approximately) at 37.degree. C. Coverslips of the shell vials are then fixed, air dried, overlaid with fluorescein-conjugated Helix pomatia lectin, washed, dried, mounted and examined under a microscope equipped with an ultraviolet light source. The identification of fluorescence confirms herpes virus infection. Granular fluorescent patterns confirm presence of HSV-2 serotype and diffuse fluorescent patterns confirm presence of HSV-1 serotype.
Abstract: A Fourier transform spectrometer for conducting Fourier transform spectroscopy. The spectrometer has a light source emitting light to a sample via a rapid scan interferometer. The transmittance of the sample varies when stimulated. A stimulus generator gives a stimulus to the sample at regular intervals of .tau. asynchronously with a reference signal produced for the interferometer. A delay circuit produces a trigger delayed with respect to each stimulation to control a gate circuit. Radiation emanating from the sample is detected by a detector. The output signal from this detector is gated onto a band-pass filter after a given delay .DELTA..tau. with respect to each stimulation by the gate circuit. The gate circuit produces a digital interferogram. The band-pass filter passes only those frequency components which satisfy the condition:m/2.tau.<f<(m+1)/2.tau.where m is a positive integer.
Abstract: The invention concerns a fired magnesia-carbon shape having a combination of properties making it especially suitable for slide gate plates, inserts for such plates and for pouring nozzles useful in casting aggressive steels. The fired refractory shape is formed from a batch consisting essentially of, by weight percent,2 to 8 finely divided graphite (natural or synthetic);3 to 8 aluminum metal powder;1 to 5 of finely divided silica and/or a silicon yielding powder;an effective amount of carbon bond forming resins;and the balance coarse and fine magnesia grains.The magnesia grains should contain less than about 0.02 weight percent boron oxide. After firing, the shape is characterized by a carbon bonding system including a spinel (magnesia-alumina) phase plus aluminum carbide bonding the magnesia-carbon matrix. The refractory shape is preferably carbon impregnated after firing to further enhance its properties.
Abstract: Processes for producing cutting dies disclosed herein comprise a step of forming on a steel plate a resist, a first etching step of etching this steel plate to form a convex portion having a prescribed height thereon, and a second etching step comprising removing the resist extending from both ends of the top of the convex portion, followed by etching. In the present invention, is is possible to carry out the second etching step several times and also possible to etching further the steel plate after removal of all of the resist remaining on the top of the convex portion. According to the present invention, there are obtained cutting dies having a sharp cutting edge and an arbitrary width of the bottom portion of the edge.
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Impatiens plant named `Peppermint Red` is characterized by the variegated foliage wherein the borders of the leaves are of yellowish-white coloration in contrast to both the darker green and washed dark green patterns of leaves and the single deep red flowers.
