  • Patent number: 4373356
Abstract: A lubrication system for use in a rotary compressor wherein the pressurized refrigerant fluid is passed through a precooler and returned to the compressor housing before passing through the discharge line to the refrigeration system. Oil entrained in the compressed precooled refrigerant is passed in heat transfer association with the rear head of the compressor to evaporate therefrom refrigerant vapor which may be entrained in the oil, permitting the oil to be returned to the lubrication sump after such removal for improved lubrication of the compressor. The rear head defines a lubricating oil flow path which, in the illustrated embodiment, opens upwardly from the rear head, permitting the lubricating oil to flow over the rear head for improved heat transfer association therewith in effecting the desired removal of entrained refrigerant vapor therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4374309
Abstract: A machine control system for sensing an obstruction in the path of a machine tool and preventing movement of the tool along its path while requiring operator initiation for each machine tool actuation. A sensor is mounted on a movable support rod and adjustably positioned to move along a path coaxial with the path of the tool in order to sense any obstruction in a work area. The movable support rod is constructed to allow gravity fall of the sensor into the work area and to cause actuation of a switching circuit allowing machine tool movement if no obstructions are sensed. A spring-biased arm coupled to a rotary solenoid retains the movable support rod in a rest position. Upon actuation, the solenoid rotates the arm so that gravity causes the support rod to fall and the sensor to move into the work area. A normally closed switch is positioned to open in response to the end stroke of machine tool movement.

  • Patent number: 4373369
Abstract: The method and apparatus for forming flanged holes and a resulting plate and tube assembly of the type used in fluid-to-fluid, such as gas-to-gas, liquid-to-liquid and liquid-to-gas, heat exchangers. A depression is formed with the aid of a punch in a plastically deformable metal sheet such as steel, aluminum, copper and the like, while applying controlled counterpressure with the aid of a larger counterpunch so that material displaced from the space between the punches is laid upon the inner bore of a constraining die. Thus the wall of the depression is formed by purely compressive means. The base of the depression may then be removed to provide deep flanges of controlled dimensions free of cracks or splits.

  • Patent number: 4372499
Abstract: A fabric winding process and apparatus for preparing a fabric pattern. A winding machine comprises a rotary drive mechanism for intermittent rotation of two card-holding chucks, and a thread-guide carriage which is translatable along a path adjacent a card held by the chucks parallel to the axis of rotation of the card. The drive mechanism and carriage are coupled such that when the winding card is not rotating, the carriage shifts a distance corresponding to a selected number of turns on the winding card such that a yarn of a selected color is wound about the card at all points on the card corresponding to the color in the desired fabric pattern. In this way, a desired pattern may be prepared without the necessity of threading or knotting several yarns together.

  • Patent number: 4370560
Abstract: An auxiliary power unit for an aircraft drives an electrical generator and an air compressor. The auxiliary power unit is primarily intended for operation with the aircraft on the ground when other aircraft power systems are shut down. The auxiliary power unit may, however, be used in an emergency to supplement the main aircraft generating system, with the aircraft airborne. When the auxiliary power unit generator is used in conjunction with the aircraft generating system, inlet air to the compressor is controlled to vary the compressor load on the power unit to minimize power unit speed changes and electrical frequency transients.

  • Patent number: 4366906
Abstract: A flattenable merchandising holder device including a pair of mounting elements swingably mounted in a display panel. The mounting elements define flatted locking portions engaging cooperating mounting channels on the display panel for selectively retaining the mounting elements in an operative position wherein a support provided on the lower end thereof extends forwardly from the lower end of the display panel. In a retracted position, the support elements are swung into general alignment with the flat plane of the display panel so as to define a flat arrangement of the device. The locking action is effected by longitudinally positioning the mounting element relative to the mounting channel. A connector is provided on the mounting element for mounting of the device to a perforated wall board. The display panel is provided with channel portions for removably mounting a display card element, such as for use with the merchandise intended to be carried on the support portion.

  • Patent number: 4365536
Abstract: An organ key assembly having a loosely mounted switch actuator providing self-aligning movement of the actuator relative to the switch. The switch, in the illustrated embodiment, is a membrane switch. The actuator is arranged to slide across the switch in effecting the operation thereof. The actuator is associated with the key in such a manner as to permit the key to be moved from an undepressed, normal position to the fully depressed position, with a substantially constant force. The actuator defines a novel configuration for providing the self-aligning function and switch wiping operation. In the illustrated embodiment, the switch is provided as a portion of a printed circuit board. • Patent number: 4366373
Abstract: An event rate counter for measuring the number of events occurring per unit of time with an input pulse train having a fixed number of pulses per each occurrence of the event, wherein the input pulse train is scaled by a multiplier and divider to provide a direct readout in events-per-unit of time. The input pulse train is amplified and applied to a level detector, the output of which is a logic level pulse train having frequency equal to the frequency of the input signal. The pulse train frequency is monitored by a frequency detector for controlling a commutative switch. For low frequency pulse trains, the switch gates the pulse train from the level detector first to the multiplier, the output of which is gated by the switch to the divider. The multiply-divide sequence order is reversed by the switch for high frequency pulse trains thereby extending the dynamic frequency range of the counter.
