Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a new composition of matter dibenzofuran-2,3,6,7,-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and polymers derived therefrom including polyamic acid or polyimide polymers formed from the reaction of the above dianhydride and a diamine. The claimed dianhydride finds use as an excellent cross-linking moiety. Condensation polymers derived from the dianhydride and diamines are useful in the production of films and fibers with good thermal stability.
Abstract: A method and composition for fracturing a subterranean formation which comprises (1) contacting a subterranean formation with an aqueous liquid comprising a propping agent and a composition containing water, acrylamide:methacrylate copolymer cross-linked with chromium (III) ion, in presence of carbonate ion, oxalate ion, and, optionally, persulfate ion, (2) applying pressure to said liquid, (3) maintaining said pressure to fracture said formation, (4) and said gel breaking within 24 hours of gel formation.
Abstract: Paper sizing process comprising (1) adding a sizing composition of a cationic retention aid and a monoester of a benzene carboxylic acid anhydride having from 6 to 60 carbon atoms in the ester group to an aqueous pulp suspension or paper stock prior to web formation, and (2) heating said sized paper web to a temperature of from 80.degree. to 150.degree. C.
Abstract: Aromatic aldehydes wherein the aldehyde group is directly attached to the aromatic ring are oxidized directly to phenolic compounds in the vapor phase. Tar and carbonaceous product formation are minimized by the method of preheating and mixing the reactants and by a rapid reaction temperature quench of the reaction mixture to below 0.degree. C. Mixing temperature is 300.degree.-350.degree. C. and reaction temperature is 400.degree.-600.degree. C. at 1-10 atmosphere pressure.

Abstract: High surface area silver olefin oxide catalysts with orderly distribution of pore size are prepared by pyrolysis of silver salts of di- and polycarboxylic acids or mixtures thereof to carbon-like polymers containing silver, followed by combustion of the carbonaceous material. The resulting unsupported or supported silver catalysts are useful for oxidations, cyclizations, isomerizations, and cracking. The carbon-like polymers containing silver, before combustion of the carbonaceous material, find utility as bactericides and catalysts. Extraction of the silver yields high surface area carbon adsorbents of predetermined structure.
